    1. [PACLEARF] Digital cameras
    2. Bruce Gray
    3. It is becoming increasingly more difficult to find a good quality digital camera with an eye type viewfinder. Most all now just have the LCD rear screen. These screens are larger and more anti-glare and also have more auto-brightness adjustment. These cameras are so small now and compact that I can shade the viewfinder if I have to with my hand and still have complete control over the camera. I am more concerned with "shutter lag time". earlier cameras had upwards of 1 second lag, which made taking photos of moving children difficult. Today's cameras have mostly speeded up this lag to hundredths of even thousandths of a second. Nikon, Canon and Panasonic are superb with fast shutters. Don't get carried away with mega-pixels. Anything over 5 mp is fine, the 10mp and 12mp are a waste of disk space on a small handheld point & shoot camera. Even professionals rarely keep photos in this high resolution. National Geographics, for instance wants pictures submitted to them at 3.2mp. They may ask for a higher resolution later, but even then 8mp is all they have ever asked me for. Most cameras have 3x optical zoom, Canon has 5x, Nikon makes a medium priced camera(<$300) with 7x and Panasonic has a beauty with 10x optical zoom, under <$400. I personally use the Panasonic. Most all cameras use the SD memory cards. they are inexpensive and plentiful and very fast writing. Olympus, Fuji and Sony use thier own proprietary cards which tend to run more money and are harder to find. Most camera shops have the ability to let you snap some candid shots at the store. Buy the camera that feels good and you like the way it takes pictures. I have been known to shop the camera shops to determine the model I want, then shop the web to find the best price. But what ever you buy, read the book and learn the features of your camera. The thing that bugs you about the camera could be as simple as a small menu adjustment. Happy shooting! I also carry a GPS with me when grave hunting. I mark each graves location with the GPS so that anyone in the future can walk right up to the grave and not wander for hours in a large (or small) cemetery Bruce Gray Semi-pro, very lucky, wildlife photographer. _________________________________________________________________ i’m is proud to present Cause Effect, a series about real people making a difference. http://im.live.com/Messenger/IM/MTV/?source=text_Cause_Effect

    1. Re: [PACLEARF] Questions, Questions
    2. One of the responses you received about digital cameras talked about a 3x DIGITAL zoom. Please make sure whatever camera you buy has an OPTICAL zoom, which means the lens actually moves when it is zooming and you get a higher quality photo. Digital zooms magnify the image and if something is blurry, you get a bigger, blurrier shot. So optical zooms are the way to go and most quality cameras will have optical zooms. I would spend a few extra dollars to get a high powered zoom. The Panasonic line has cameras with more than 3x zoom power. Also check to see if the camera has MACRO capability, meaning you can get very close to an object and can photograph minute details. I suggest an optical viewfinder (in addition to the review screen on the back of the camera). The more megapixels, the better. A compact flash (CF) or secure digital (SD) cards are the most popular and you can download to your camera through a supplied cable or by taking the memory card and inserting it into a card reader (usually about $10 to $15 extra). I have a personal preference for Canon cameras, but Nikon and Panasonic make good models. For reviews, you can check _www.cnet.com_ (http://www.cnet.com) or _http://www.steves-digicams.com/hardware_reviews.html_ (http://www.steves-digicams.com/hardware_reviews.html) **************************************See AOL's top rated recipes (http://food.aol.com/top-rated-recipes?NCID=aoltop00030000000004)

    3. My suggestion would be to make sure that your camera has both a viewfinder and the screen. Some of the cheaper camera's only have the screen to compose and then view the photo. If it is the least bit sunny, it is almost impossible to see anything in that screen. As for how easy it is to get the photos onto your computer, it will depend on what equipment you have. Some cameras come with cords that plug into your computer. If your computer isn't a newer one with the plugs in the front, they could be hard to access. I have a HP printer/scanner that has a slot for the memory card right on it which makes it very easy. 3. I'm on my third digital camera and believe that only professionals need to spend the big bucks for cameras. One thing that is pretty central to all lower priced camera's is the 3X digital zoom. This allows close up pics when you are near your subject and can bring things farther away a bit closer. I have just purchased my 3rd Fugi because it is the only one with 4X zoom among those closest to it in cost ($150 at Best Buy). Most cameras now have 7 or 8 mega pixels so that is pretty much a wash. FYI, once you get over about 5 mp you can blow your pics up to 8x10. 7 or 8 and you can get a pretty clear poster size. Hope this helps. 2. Jocelyn and Beverly - Thanks so much for quick reply. It does help. My next step was to track down the address for Bertha and George's address. She died in 1938, and he remarried, (Esther?) Heberling Marsh, a widow. My cousin says he sold his house and they lived in hers. So that answers one puzzle - they must've been neighbors. And I don't know why I hadn't looked for a cemetery listing, but I will see if there is one for Rumbarger, or who has the papers. From what I've heard it has been, for all purposes, abandoned. 3. Hi Jan, Last I heard, which wasn't long ago, the DuBois Public Library who has obituaries doesn't have them indexed. However, the libarian may be able to find him in a cemetery listing. She is very helpful, but won't go through 2 years of newspapers to research and I'm not sure anyone else would do it either. I think the library has a website with an email address. If someone doesn't find the house, have the librarian look in old city directories for the address or hopefully a volunteer will do it for you.
