    3. The Derrick, May 29, 2009: Katharine A. Scalzo Bell, Frizzleburg Evelyn J. "Sue" Bickel, 3143 Georgetown Road, Polk Eugene C. Heath, Riverside Drive, Oil City Michael R. Morris, formerly of Oil City Gladys F. O'Neil, formerly of 119 Prospect Ave., Franklin Milton B. "Buster" Scott, formerly of Clintonville and Emlenton Katharine A. Scalzo Bell, 87, of 195 Maple Lane, Frizzleburg, died at 3:25 p.m. Wednesday, May, 27, 2009, at Overlook Medical Clinic in New Wilmington. Born Aug. 22, 1921, in New Castle, she was the daughter of Rosalia and Grazia Casilla Scalzo. She married James Bell on Nov. 13, 1943, and he died June 27, 1987. Mrs. Bell retired from Hill's Department Store in Youngstown, Ohio, after 25 years of service. She also worked for Thrifty Market and DeRosa Market of New Castle. She was a member and progarm director of the former New Wilmington Senior Center, and she was also a member of the Harvesters of New Bedford, Penn Ohio Music Club and Frizzleburg Community Citizens Club. Mrs. Bell was a member of New Bedford Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years, she taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school, and she was a member of the Church Circle. She was also active working with the church bazaar and clothing sale. Mrs. Bell is survived by two daughters, Barbara L. Taylor and her husband, William W., of Frizzleburg, and Kathleen L. Brennan and her husband, Thomas, of Franklin; two sons, Charles L. Bell and his wife, Diane, of Frizzleburg, and Robert J. Bell and his wife, Cindy, also of Frizzleburg; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three brothers, Joel Scalzo of Shenango Township, George Scalzo of New Castle and Gary Scalzo of Mentor, Ohio; and three sisters, Ruth Joki of New Castle, Mary Colelia of New Castle and Margaret Kimmell of Shenango Township. Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday and from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Monday at the Smith Funeral Home, 310 W. Neshannock Ave., New Wilmington. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Richard C. Nero, chaplain of Southern Care Hospice of New Castle, officiating. Evelyn J. "Sue" Bickel, 62, of 3143 Georgetown Road, Polk, died at 6:20 a.m. Thursday, May 28, 2009, at home after an extended illness. Born Feb. 24, 1947, in Greenville, she was a daughter of Francis M. and Virginia D. Fulmer Brocklehurst. She was a 1965 graduate of Commodore Perry High School. She retired from Polk Center as an RSA (residential service aide) in 2006 with 31½ years of service. In earlier years she worked at Mitchell's Nursing Home of Atlantic. Mrs. Bickel was a member of Jerusalem Christian Church of Greenville. She loved spending time with her family, especially her nieces and nephews. Sue also loved animals. She married Thomas L. Bickel on Dec. 21, 1984, and he survives at home. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bickel is survived by one sister, Linda Swogger of Sheakleyville; one brother, Rodger W. Brocklehurst and his wife, Sheila, of Greenville; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She is also survived by three aunts, Martha Brocklehurst of South Carolina, Irene Brocklehurst of Greenville and Myrene Marks and her husband, Gene, of North Ft. Myers, Fla.; one uncle, Edward Brocklehurst and his wife, Diane, of Tampa, Fla.; her mother-in-law, Mary L. Bickel Potosky and her husband, Ed, of Franklin; a sister-in-law, Joyce Ion and her husband, Jim, of Franklin; and a brother-in-law, Art Bickel and his wife, Marlene, of Franklin. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bickel was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Brocklehurst; and an infant sister. Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the Scott A. Black Funeral Home, 99 Franklin St., Stoneboro. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the funeral home with the Rev. Hydie R. Houston, pastor of North Sandy Presbyterian Church in Utica, officiating. Interment and committal service will be in Chaney Memorial Chapel of Hadley Cemetery in Hadley. Heath, 86, of Riverside Drive, Oil City, died peacefully Thursday, May 28, 2009, in his home. Born June 12, 1922, at Hales Mills, he was a son of Vernon G. and Viola Hale Heath. Mr. Heath was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving his country in the South Pacific during World War II. He was an electrical contractor and prior to retiring in 1982 he owned and operated Heath Electric in Oil City. Mr. Heath was a loyal member of Heckathorn United Methodist Church. He enjoyed life and family. He had a love for the outdoors, traveling, playing golf, hunting, fishing and campfires. On Oct. 30, 1948, he married the former Dorothy Fry, and she survives. He is also survived by three children, Robert Heath and his wife, Theresa, Marlene Elliston and her special friend, Art Thurau, and Shelly McCall and her husband, Karl; and nine grandchildren, Matt Heath, Mark Heath and his wife, Dana, Mike Heath, Michelle Wilson and her husband, Jareb, Eric Elliston and his wife, Beth, Angela Elliston and her friend, Mike Hilton, Marcia Elliston, Nick McCall and Leigha McCall. Papa Gene also had seven great-grandchildren, Gabriella, Benjamin and Lily Elliston, Aiden Elliston, Kaleb and Logan Heath and Natalie Wilson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Louis M. Heath. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Morrison Funeral Home in Oil City. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Heckathorn United Methodist Church with the Rev. Pat Ellis, church pastor, officiating. Entombment will be at Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens. It is suggested memorial contributions be made to the VNA Foundation or to a charity of one's choice. Michael R. Morris, 66, a former Oil City resident, died Friday, May 22, 2009, in Los Angeles. He was a son of the late Robert S. and Florence E. Morris. Surviving family includes a son, Christopher of Nantuckett, Mass.; two brothers, Robert S. Morris and David T. Morris, both of Oil City; and two nieces and two nephews. Services were held in Los Angeles. Gladys F. O'Neil, 96, formerly of 119 Prospect Ave., Franklin, died at 3:45 a.m. Thursday, May 28, 2009, at Wesbury in Meadville. Born in Foxburg, she was a daughter of John L. and Maude Stover Fulmer. She graduated from Franklin High School in 1931 and from the Oil City School of Nursing in 1934. After her schooling she was employed as a nurse at the Oil City Hospital, then as a nurse in the office of Dr. A.W. Goodwin and lastly from 1951-1978 at the Franklin Hospital, retiring as the director of nursing. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Franklin and the Friendship Circle Sunday school class. Mrs. O'Neil was also a member of the United Methodist Women, the Civic Club and the AARP. She married William M. O'Neil on July 30, 1938, and he preceded her in death Sept. 21, 1993. Mrs. O'Neil is survived by a daughter, Nancy Hitching and her husband, James, of Marietta, Ga.; a son, James E. O'Neil of Durango, Colo.; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two sisters, Myrtle Lepley and Evelyn Burchfield, both of Franklin; a brother, Donald E. Fulmer and his wife, Gerry, of Franklin; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today in the Huff Chapel, 312 W. Park St., Franklin. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home with Sam Wagner, associate pastor of Christ United Methodist Church in Franklin, officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens. The family suggests donations be made to Christ United Methodist Church, 1135 Buffalo St., Franklin, 16323. Milton B. "Buster" Scott, 87, formerly of Clintonville and Emlenton, died at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2009, at the Caring Place in Franklin. Born Oct. 23, 1921, in Little Cooley, Crawford County, he was the son of Milton B. and Irene Ferguson Scott. He was of the Protestant faith. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time in the woods. He had been employed in various steel mills and coal mines through out his working life. Mr. Scott was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Cagno Scott, who died in February 2009. Mr. Scott was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a staff sergeant and a tail gunner in both England and France. He is survived by seven children, Irene "Penny" Kidd, Deloris "Dorrie" Champion, and Kenny, Ronny, Jim, David and Diana Scott; two sisters, Winifred McIntyre of Hermitage, and Jean Wallace of El Cajon, Ca.; one brother, Eddie Scott of Hartford, Ohio; and a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to his parents and his wife, Mr. Scott was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna; three sisters, Betty Walter, with whom Mr. Scott made his home for many years, Martha Munnell and Virginia Scott; as well as a number of brothers. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday in the Hile Funeral Home Inc., 1204 Kerr Ave., Emlenton. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home with the Rev.
