    3. The Derrick, May 23, 2009: Patsy Ellen Bond, Lawsonham Road, Rimersburg Genevieve R. Buzzard, Acme Street, Rimersburg Phyllis M. Deeter, Louisville, Ohio, native of Franklin Glenn Wallace Means Sr., 1597 Pittsburgh Road, Franklin John Craig Rice, Carson City, Nev., formerly of Franklin Douglas E. "Doug" Weaver, Ranch Street, Seneca Sandra Silves Birtcil Young, Adair, Okla., formerly of Knox Patsy Ellen Bond, 61, of Lawsonham Road, Rimersburg, passed away at 3:50 a.m. Friday, May 22, 2009, in Clarion Hospital, following an illness. She was born Oct. 24, 1947, in Pittsburgh and was the only child of G.E. Brinkley and Ruth Lorraine Slater Brinkley. Mrs. Bond was a 1965 graduate of Union High School and received her bachelor's degree and master's degree in education from Clarion University. She taught her first year at West Deer School District and then retired from teaching elementary education in both Sligo and Rimersburg in Union School District after 30 years of service. Mrs. Bond was a founding member of the Ruby Rascals, the local Red Hat Society. She taught Sunday School at Rimersburg United Methodist Church. She married Richard Nelson "Rick" Bond on Aug. 9, 1969, in Sligo United Methodist Church, and he survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Erin Sczerba and her husband, Jason, of Rimersburg; one step-grandchild, Mary-Kathrine Sczerba of Clarion; and several nieces. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Richard D. Hillis Funeral Home in Rimersburg and from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Rimersburg United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Rimersburg United Methodist Church with the Rev. Brock Beveridge, church pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Rimersburg Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.hillisfuneralhome.com Genevieve Ruth "Jenny" Buzzard, 85, of Acme Street, Rimersburg, passed away at 3:10 a.m. Friday, May 22, 2009, in Clarion Hospital, following a lingering illness. Born April 10, 1924, in Huey, Clarion County, she was the daughter of Lester Philip Dunkle and Cora Della Vogel Dunkle. She was married Sept. 28, 1946, in Clarion Presbyterian Church to Jesse H. Buzzard Jr., who preceded her in death Sept. 23, 2003. She graduated in 1942 from Rimersburg High School. Mrs. Buzzard was a member of Jerusalem United Church of Christ in Rimersburg. While living in Pittsburgh from 1946 until 1950 she was employed at Kaufmann's department store as a salesperson in the jewelry department. She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Violet L. Garner of Meadville and Mrs. Ruby M. Kamerer of East Brady; one brother-in-law, William I. Buzzard and his wife, Marian, of Ramsonville, N.Y.; numerous nieces and nephews; and her caregivers, Inga Morris, Kaye Hillis, Kelly Morris, Charlotte Zellefrow and Betty Banks. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death in 1985 by a brother, Edward Wayne Dunkle. Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Richard D. Deeter, 81, passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at St. Joseph Care Center in Louisville, Ohio. She was born June 30, 1927 in Franklin. She was married to Walter J. Deeter, who preceded her in death. She graduated from Spencer School of Nursing in Meadville and was a registered nurse for more than 40 years. Before her retirement, she was the night supervisor at Aultman Hospital in Canton, Ohio. She is survived by two sons, Walter Deeter and his wife, Christine, and Jim Deeter and his wife, Anne; and four grandchildren, Meg, Tommy, Jonathan and Mackenzie. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Huff Chapel, 312 W. Park St., Franklin. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home immediately after visitation. Interment will be in Cooperstown Cemetery. Arrangements in Ohio are under the direction of the Paquelet-Falk Funeral Home in Louisville, Ky. Glenn Wallace Means Sr., 86, of 1597 Pittsburgh Road, Franklin, died at 5:25 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at UPMC Northwest in Seneca. Born Aug. 19, 1922, in New Wilmington, he was the son of David Marquis Means and Nellie Frankenburg Means. He married Gladys M. Gibson on Aug. 24, 1946, and she preceded him in death. He was the owner of Means Lumber. A proud lumberman in his 64th year of business, he delivered his last load of lumber to Franklin Steel last week. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the U.S. Navy as a pilot. Mr. Means was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Franklin. He was also a life member of Franklin Elks Lodge 110, where he served as past district deputy and state treasurer. He was also a member of the Franklin Eagles and Rainbow Sportsman's Club. Mr. Means was also active with Masonic organizations, and he was a 50-year member of Myrtle Lodge 316 and a member of the Masonic Valley of Oil City, Valley of New Castle and Zem Zem Temple. He is survived by three sons, Glenn Means Jr. of Franklin, David M. Means and his wife, Darlene, of Saegertown, and P. Scott Means and his wife, Jennifer, of Gilbert, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Michael L. Hanna of Polk, and Matthew E. Means and Nathan G. Means, both of Gilbert, Ariz.; three nieces, Jennifer Tenney and her husband, Paul, of Virginia, Christine Filipovic and her husband, Dennis, of Harrisburg, and Nancy Carson of Youngstown, Ohio; one nephew, William Carson and his wife, Sharon, of Tucson, Ariz.; and one great-niece, Elizabeth Filipovic of Harrisburg. He is also survived by a special friend, Ginny Snyder, of Franklin. He and Ginny went to all the Franklin sporting events together. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Means was preceded in death by two brothers, Hugh Everett Means and Paul Marquis Means; and one sister, Evelyn Means Carson. The Gardinier Funeral Home Inc., 1315 Chestnut St., Franklin, is in charge of arrangements, and there will be no visitation hours. Online condolences may be sent at www.gardinierfuneralhome.com John Craig Rice, 64, of Carson City, Nev., formerly of Franklin, passed away at 12:26 a.m. Thursday, May 21, 2009, at the Carson City Convalescent Home. Born May 8, 1945, in Tarentum, he was the son of Francis Edward Rice Sr. and Norma Irene Huff. He was married to the former Nina Eddy of Carson City, Nev., who survives. After graduating from Rocky Grove High School he worked for many years at Chicago Pneumatic Tool Co in Franklin before moving to Colorado. He enjoyed traveling and fishing, and he was a gifted artist. He is survived by two daughters, Sheila Marie Worley and Erica Dawn Munoz; and four grandchildren, Dannika, Seth, Angolece and Caden, all of Carson City, Nev. He is also survived by eight siblings, Lona Sue McCracken of Jefferson, Ohio, A. Lee Rice and his wife, Deb, of Reno, Mary Beth Dick of Kennerdell, Daniel Victor Rice and his wife, Renee, of Wyoming, Mich., Pearl Elizabeth Hoskens of Andover, Ohio, Timothy Paul Rice of Carson City, Nev., Brian Douglas Rice of Franklin and Ruth Rice Stewart and her husband, Jim, of Shippenville; 22 nieces and nephews and 25 great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Francis Edward Rice Jr. and Russell Jacob Rice Sr.; and one sister, Rita Ilene Seigworth. Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Douglas E. "Doug" Weaver, 48, of Ranch Street, Seneca, went to be with the Lord at 7:50 p.m. Thursday, May 21, 2009, at St. Vincent Health Center in Erie. Born Sept. 8, 1960, in Oil City, he was the son of the late Emil L. Weaver and Shirley Switzer Weaver, who survives, in Seneca. Mr. Weaver was a graduate of Cranberry High School. He worked for many years at Weaver Lumber and Weaver Gun Shop, both in Seneca. He was a member of Grace Evangelical Congregational Church in Ninevah. In his younger years he played softball for the Franklin Foodland team. He also enjoyed weightlifting, hunting and fishing. In addition to his mother, Mr. Weaver is survived by a brother, Scott E. Weaver of Boston; three uncles, Art Weaver and his wife, Minnie, of Seneca, Gerald Weaver and his wife, Patricia, of Ninevah and James Switzer and his wife, Jo Ann, of Clarion; two aunts, Betty Kapp and her husband, Ralph, of Kossuth and Doris Shovestull of Fairmount City; as well as numerous cousins. Mr. Weaver was preceded in death by his father. The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the David C. McEntire Funeral Home Inc., 504 E. Penn St., Knox, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Grace E.C. Church in Ninevah. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the church with the Rev. Rick Osberg, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Starr Cemetery, Knox RD 1. The family suggests memorials be made to Grace E.C. Church, 2561 Grace E.C. Church Road, Knox, Pa., 16232. Sandra Silves Birtcil Young, 70, of Adair, Okla., formerly of Knox, died Friday, May 22, 2009, in Gainesville, Ga. The David C. McEntire Funeral Home Inc. of Knox is in charge of arrangements.
