    3. The Derrick, May 6, 2009: Beulah M. Bemis, 10 Vo-Tech Drive, Oil City, formerly of 1334 Riverside Drive, Oil City Mary Louise Borger Cummings, formerly of Franklin Katherine E. Ferringer, Wall Street, Clarion Infant Riley Hardee, Texas Donald Claude Keefer, West Monterey Emory W. "Smitty" Smith, Snively's Corners Road, Knox Beulah M. Bemis, 84, of 10 Vo-Tech Drive, Oil City, formerly of 1334 Riverside Drive, Oil City, died at 5:05 a.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at the Oil City Presbyterian Home after an extended illness. Born March 3, 1925, in Rocky, Okla., she was the daughter of Homer Elliott and Lillie Page Elliott She was married Dec. 11, 1945, in Plainview, Texas, to Fred J. Bemis, who preceded her in death Oct. 19, 2001. Mrs. Bemis had worked at Peaches Restaurant in Pleasantville, Davison-McNair in Rouseville and later for Family Service and Children's Aid Society. Beulah had a gift from God as a talented musician. While living at the Presbyterian Home she played the organ as her health permitted. She was also an organist at Christ Fellowship Church in Venus and for Charity Baptist Church in Zephyr Hills, Fla. She also sang with the King's daughters. A born-again Christian, she served the Lord with her music. She was a member of Christ Fellowship Church in Venus. Beulah enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Bemis is survived by her five children, Dennis Morgan and his wife, Donna, of Memphis, Fred Bemis Jr. and his wife, Alice, of Titusville, Cathy Buckley and her husband, Robert, of Hartstown, Randy Bemis and his wife, Debra, of Seneca, and Rita Van Dyke and her husband, Charles, of President. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, Clay, Keith, Crescent, Cory, Joe, Chris, Edward, Eric, Benjamin and Nathan; 13 great-grandchildren and several nices and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the Reinsel Funeral Home & Crematory in Oil City. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Christ Fellowship Church, Old State Road, Venus, with pastor Denny Weaver presiding. Interment will follow in Rockland Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to www.reinselfuneralhome.com Mary Louise "Marylou" Borger Cummings, 74, formerly of Franklin, passed away Saturday, April 4, 2009, in Panama City, Fla.. She was born Mary Louise Morrison on June 3, 1934, in Franklin, and she graduated from Franklin High School. She was married Sept 30, 1951, to Neil Borger, and they had two sons, Robert N. and James L. Borger. They divorced in 1970. Marylou resided in Pennsylvania, New Mexico, California, Colorado, Georgia and Florida. She worked in accounting and the photography field, and she enjoyed being near the beach and occasional trips with friends to try her luck at the casinos. Surviving are a son, James Borger and his wife, Victoria, of Huron, Ohio; three grandchildren, Jennifer Taylor and her husband, Jason, of Bellville, Ohio, James N. Borger and his wife, Karyn, of Creston, Ohio, and Jamie Borger of Huron, Ohio; one step-granddaughter, Marie Henley of Huron, Ohio; and one sister, Betty Lou Wyant of Franklin and her three children, Margaret, Cynthia and Paul Jr. Also surviving are longtime friends Verner Christensen and Michael Griggs; four step-brothers, Larry Morrison Jr. and his wife, Charlene, Raymond Morrison and his wife, Christine, Carl Morrison and his wife, LuAnne, and Kevin Morrison and his wife, Valerie: and one step-sister, JoAnn Peterman. In addition to Neil Borger, her former husband of 19 years, she was preceded in death by a son, Robert, in 1969; her mother, Zylva Morrison-Revelant, and stepfather, Louis Revelant; her father, Lawrence Morrison; and a brother-in-law, Paul Wyant, in 2008. Her ashes will be scattered in Florida and Pennsylvania. Memorial contributions may be made to Lupher Chapel United Methodist Church of Franklin. Katherine E. Ferringer, 89, of Wall Street, Clarion, died Monday, May 4, 2009, at Brookville Hospital. Born June 12, 1919, in Clarion Township, she was the daughter of the late Samuel H. Smathers and Mary Elizabeth Baughman Smathers. She married Robert J. Gifford on Sept. 5, 1942, and he preceded her in death June 29, 1963. On Aug. 16, 1969, she married Arnold T. Ferringer, and he preceded her in death July 18, 2007. Mrs. Ferringer was a homemaker and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Clarion. She is survived by four children, Kaye Miller and her husband, Donald, of Fulton, N.Y., Bobbi Heeter of Clarion, William W. Ferringer and his wife, Cheryl, of Elkton, Md., and Patricia Weaver and her husband, Ken, of New Bethlehem; and seven grandchildren, Suzanne Law and husband, Brett, Jason Miller and wife, Michelle, Kristine Gidge and husband, Brett, Kurt Ferringer and wife, Amanda, David Weaver and wife, Mona, Pamela Ferringer and Tommy Ferringer. Also surviving are seven great-grandchildren, Alayna Miller, Braden Miller, James Law, Austin Gidge, Benjamin Ferringer, Ashley Reed and Cassidy Reed; and one sister, Helen Saper of North Washington. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by four brothers, William, Harry, Foster and Francis. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Goble Funeral Home and Crematory, 330 Wood St., Clarion. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Clarion First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Deryl Larsen officiating. Interment will be in Cedarview Memorial Park. Infant Riley Hardee of Texas died Saturday, April 25, 2009, after battling hypoplastic left heart syndrome since his birth on Nov. 1, 2008. Riley and his fight were documented in an article in The Derrick on Feb. 28. He is survived by great-grandparents Boyd and Ann Enos of Pleasantville. Donald Claude Keefer, 84, of West Monterey, passed away late Monday morning, May 5, 2009, at the emergency room of Butler Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. Born in West Monterey on May 20, 1924, he was the son of the late David Edison and Edna Bird McCoy Keefer. After attending the former Parker High School, he studied welding at Struthers Wells at Titusville. He was married on June 28, 1948, to Mary Alice Daubenspeck, who survives. A veteran of World War II, he served with the U. S. Navy as an aviation metalsmith. He was honorably discharged as a petty officer second class from the naval facility at Corpus Christi, Texas. Mr. Keefer then began a 41-year career with A-K Steel , formerly known as Armco Steel Corp, in Butler, until his retirement in 1983. He enjoyed many aspects of outdoor recreation. He was affiliated with the Park Hill Church of God at West Freedom. In additon to his wife he is survived by one daughter, Diana Keefer McLucas and husband, Daniel, of Norwalk, Ohio; and one son, David G. Keefer and wife, Francine, of Butler; and four grandchildren, Jennifer McLucas, Julie Hagerman, Matthew and Melanie Keefer; and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Jane Brooks of Lakeland, Fla.; and two brothers, William Keefer of Butler and James Keefer of Harrisville; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at H. Jack Buzard Funeral Home, Inc., Wayne Street, Parker. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home with the Rev. Korona Say, pastor of the Church of God, officiating. Interment will be in West Monterey Cemetery. Prior to the funeral services members of the VFW and American Legion Posts of Parker will conduct military veterans' services at 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home. Emory W. "Smitty" Smith, 71, of Snively's Corners Road, Knox, died at 7:30 a.m. Monday, May 4, 2009, at UPMC Northwest in Seneca after a lingering illness. Born Dec. 24, 1937, he was the son of the late Ernie and Edna Deitz Smith. Emory was employed for 30 years at Knox Glass and was a well-known painting contractor for more than 50 years in the area. "Smitty" was a friendly "people person", a guy people were always glad to see coming. He loved cars of all kinds and owned many over the years. He also had more than 200 model cars in his collection. He enjoyed car auctions, four-wheeling, motorcycles and taking his dogs, Loey and Summer, on rides. His greatest enjoyment came from painting and just talking to people. Emory and his wife had belonged to the Fiddle-A-Round square dance club in Clarion. He married Lois Best Beichner on June 20, 1979, and she survives. Also surviving are seven children, Kitty Knowles and her husband, Gregg, of Florida, Kimberly S. Smith of Butler, Tammy L. Matthews and her husband, Robert M., of Sligo, James E. Smith and his fiancee, Brenda, of Kittanning, Andrew W. Smith and his fiancee, Tammy, of Lamartine, Joseph Beichner and his friend, Janet, of Fisher, and Steven Beichner and his wife, Brenda, of Brookville; and seven grandchildren, Thomas Smith, Alexis Martin, Nathan Smith, Donielle Beichner, Aryn Beichner, Austyn Beichner and Christyn Beichner. More survivors include a brother, Earl Smith and his wife, Pat, of Gillette; a sister-in-law, Shirley Smith of Fern; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Emory was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Smith. The family will receive friends from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the David C. McEntire Funeral Home, 504 E. Penn St., Knox. Funeral services will be private and will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Starr Cemetery at Knox RD.
