    3. The Derrick, May 5, 2009: Donna Jean Dinberg, Canada John Leroy O'Neil Jr., Knox, formerly of Seneca Donald W. Sloneker, 208 Maple Road, Oil City Emory W. Smith, Knox Jacalyne Morth "Cricket" Woods, Hearne, Texas Donna Jean Dinberg, 66, died Saturday, April 11, 2009, at The Hospice at May Court in Ottawa, Canada, surrounded by family members and her closest friends, Franceen and Pierre Gaudet. She was born Sept. 3, 1942, in Kingston, Ontario, to H. Margaret "Madge" Malloch Dinberg and the late Dr. Maurice C. Dinberg. Donna graduated in 1960 from Oil City High School. She received a bachelor's degree from York University and an M.L.S. degree from McGill University. Following her studies, she worked for the National Library of Canada and its successor organization, Library and Archives Canada, for more than 34 years. She was also librarian for the Jewish Genealogical Society of Ottawa. In addition to her father, she was predeceased by her beloved husband, Joseph "Habao" Texidor, a jazz musician, who died Oct. 19, 2007. She is survived by their daughter, Edith "Liz" Fletcher of Chicago; by her three stepdaughters, Michelle Reynolds (and Susanne Perrenod) of New York City, Nicole Texidor of Victoria, B.C., and Camille T. Octave (and husband Lesly); and by her step-grandson, Samuel I. Octave of Montreal. Also surviving are her mother, of Oil City; her sister, Janet D. Thompson of Oil City; her brother, Douglas I. Dinberg (and wife Carolyn) of Oil City; her brother, Norman A. Dinberg (and wife Brenda G. Stahlman) of Clarion; and her nephew, David S. Thompson (and wife Carrie). A graveside service was held Monday, April 13, at the Jewish Community Cemetery, Osgoode, Ontario, where she was laid to rest beside her beloved husband. A memorial service celebrating Donna's life was held at the funeral chapel on Friday, April 17. The family suggests memorial contributions be sent to the local chapter of the American Cancer Society, 10 W. Front St., Oil City, 16301, or to a charity of one's choice. John Leroy O'Neil Jr., 86, of Knox, formerly of Seneca, passed away Sunday, May 3, 2009, at St. Vincent Healthcare in Erie, surrounded by his family. Born Sept. 24, 1922, in Myer's Mill, Venango County, he was the son of the late John Leroy O'Neil Sr. and Angeline Culp O'Neil. He was married June 29, 1946, in Ripley, N.Y., to the former Norma Faye Berlin, who preceded him in death April 24, 1995. He was married June 14, 2001, to Roberta Sheatz Rossman, who survives. John attended Ashland High School and Kossuth. He was employed at the Oil City Glass Plant, later known as Foster Forbes, from which he retired. Mr. O'Neil was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Clarion and Berlin-Bowser American Legion Post 720 in Knox. John served in World War II as a private first class in the U.S. Army from 1943 until 1946 in North Africa, Corsica, France, Germany and Switzerland. His headquarters battery was the 475th Antiaircraft Artillery Battalion. He received the Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and three Bronze Service Stars. Mr. O'Neil was involved in the Rome-Arno, Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns. John helped build a bridge over the Rhine River and he also cleared mine fields. Mr. O'Neil loved to travel and did so extensively throughout the United States. He was an exceptional jack of all trades. He particularly enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his family, extended family and friends. In addition to his second wife, Mr. O'Neil is survived by three sons, Terrence A. O'Neil and his wife, Pamela, Mark A. O'Neil and his wife, Sue, and Karl L. O'Neil and his wife, Nancy, all of Seneca; and three step-children, Guyla Rossman of Knox, Kavin Rossman and his wife, Janet, of Syracuse, N.Y. and Kenda Zerbe and her husband, Eric, of Kossuth. He is survived by six grandchildren, Aaron J. O'Neil and his wife, Erin, Adam M. O'Neil and his wife, Hillary, Katie Jo O'Neil, Michael O 'Neil, Stacy L. O'Neil and Erica L. O'Neil; and nine step-grandchildren, Timothy Nay, Bryan Nay, Guy Nay, Jeremy Rossman, Nathan Rossman, Lynn Rossman, Will Rossman, Shane Zerbe and Cally Zerbe. He is also survived by five sisters, Freda Moyer and Shirley Shirey Whitling and her husband, Norman, all of Oil City, Susan Lineman and her husband, Charles, of Cranberry, Carol "Kay" Gilmore and her husband, Fred, of Lucinda, and Mary Henderson of Lake City, Fla.; a brother, Russel O'Neil and his wife, Nancy, of Zephyr Hills, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Marilyn O'Neil of Oil City; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and his first wife, Mr. O'Neil was preceded in death by an infant son, Sheldon Leroy O'Neil; and three brothers, William O'Neil, Daniel O'Neil and Merle O'Neil. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the David C. McEntire Funeral Home Inc., 504 East Penn St., Knox, and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church, 700 Wood St., Clarion. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. at the church with the Rev. Scott Hauser, pastor, officiating. Interment with full military honors accorded by the Berlin-Bowser American Legion Post 720 of Knox, will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Cranberry. The family suggests memorials be made to the New Covenant Fund c/o First Presbyterian Church, 700 Wood St., Clarion. Donald W. Sloneker, 65, of 208 Maple Road, Oil City, died at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 2, 2009, in his home. Born July 24, 1943, in Greene County, he was the son of the late Thomas E. Sloneker and Norma E. Walsh Sloneker of Oil City. Mr. Sloneker grew up in the McKees Rocks area, then moved to the Oil City area where he has lived for the past 23 years. He was employed for eight years at Classic Player Piano Co. in Seneca. Prior to that he worked at Shirley's Restaurant in Seneca. Mr. Sloneker was also a foreman for the Chartiers Paving Co. in Coraopolis before moving to Oil City. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. Mr. Sloneker is survived by his mother, Norma E. Sloneker of Oil City; his ex-wife, Barbara Jean Mackey of McKees Rocks; three sons, Thomas E. Sloneker and his wife, Paula, of High Point, N.C., and Donald W. Sloneker Jr. and Michael Allen Sloneker, both of McKees Rocks; one daughter, Wanda Lee Sloneker of Coraopolis; one sister, Bonnie L. Klem of Oil City; and five grandchildren, Amanda L. Sloneker, Rachael H. Sloneker, Zachary Sloneker, Nicholas Sloneker and Courtney Sloneker. He was preceded in death by his father and two sisters, Patricia Ann Sloneker and Mary Belle Sloneker. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the Hutchinson Funeral Home, 201 Bissell Ave. Oil City . Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home with the Rev. Bruce Davis, pastor of Calvary United Methodist Church in Oil City, officiating. Interment will be in Brandon Cemetery. Emory W. Smith, 71, of Knox, died at 7:35 a.m. Monday, May 4, 2009, at UPMC Northwest, Seneca. The David C. McEntire Funeral Home in Knox is handling arrangements. A complete obituary will be published Wednesday in The Derrick. Jacalyne Morth "Cricket" Woods, 57, of Hearne, Texas, entered eternal life on Sunday, April 26, 2009, at her home following a long illness. Born Aug. 15, 1951, in New London, Conn., she was a daughter of Joseph and Mary Cummings Morth. She attended St. Mary's Star of the Sea School, graduated from New London High School and was a member of the Surfer's Drum and Bugle Corps. She married Ronald Myers of Pennsylvania and later moved to Fort Myers, Fla. She was a beautiful artist, loved muscle cars, the outdoors, and especially spending time with her children and grandchildren. While in Fort Myers, Jacalyne became a licensed practical nurse and then relocated back to Connecticut. She worked at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital and several nursing homes in the area. While working at one of the nursing homes, she was affectionately nicknamed "Cricket" and it stuck. While in Connecticut, she met her second husband, Norman Dorris, and they married and moved to Texas. Jacalyne lost her husband, Norman, due to a motorcycle accident in 1982. She later married Dennis Woods of Texas, and he survives. In addition to her husband, Dennis, she is survived by her parents, Mary and Joseph Morth of Franklin; a son, R.J. Woods and his wife, Laura, of Hearne, Texas; a daughter, Melissa McDonald and her husband, Robbie, of Crocket, Texas; a sister, Maureen O'Neil and her husband, Alan, of Franklin; and a brother, Lawrence Morth and his partner, Carol Andersen, of Waterford, Conn. Also surviving are three nieces, Catilin Morth, Maselin Hodgkiss and Alexia O'Neil; three nephews, Christopher Morth, Ryan Morth and Jason Hodgkiss; and four grandchildren, Dylan Woods, Chelsi Woods, Brittany McDonald and Robbie Joe McDonald. In addition to her husband, Norman Dorris, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Derek Woods. Her life was celebrated with services on Thursday, April 30, at Memorial Funeral Home in Hearne, Texas, with all her family and friends present.
