    3. The Derrick, May 4, 2009: Vincent J. Hahn, 209 Congress Drive, Oil City Richard E. Hogue, 572 Tippery Road, Seneca John L. O'Neil Jr., Knox, formerly of Seneca Robert J. Smerkar, Shippenville Jonathan Crist Wenner, Irvine, Pa., formerly of Strattanville Edinger memorial service set Getting it Right - Anna Marcella King Vincent J. Hahn, 77, of 209 Congress Drive, Oil City, went to be with the Lord at 11:44 p.m. Saturday, May 2, 2009, at St. Vincent Health Center in Erie surrounded by his family. Mr. Hahn had suffered a stroke on Wednesday, April 29, on Seneca Street while stopping to mail some letters. Born Jan. 2, 1932, in Oil City, he was the son of the late Frank and Martha Schultz Hahn. He was a graduate of Oil City High School. Mr. Hahn was a life member of St. Joseph Church. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, AARP Bowling League and was a Meals on Wheels volunteer. His hobbies included working in his greenhouse, vegetable and flower gardening and bowling. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his children and grandchildren and attending their sports activities. He also enjoyed the companionship of his dog Annie , who died the day after he suffered his stroke. Mr. Hahn worked as a machine operator at Manion Steel Barrel for 46 years, retiring in 1994. He was married on Sept. 1, 1956 at St. Joseph Church by the Rev. Dempsey to the former Maxine L. Witherell of Tionesta, who survives. Survivors also include three sons and their wives, Phillip C. and Debbie Hahn and Mark V. and Susan Hahn, all of Oil City, and Joseph T. and Jodie Hahn of Shade Gap; and eight grandchildren, Michael, Mirinda, Kristy, Brian,Zachariah, Rebecca, Isaiah, and Kole. Also surviving are a brother, Edwin Hahn of Titusville; and several nieces, nephews and special friends. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Norman and Francis Hahn. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Reinsel Funeral Home and Crematory and from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the church with Msgr. John W. Swoger presiding. Entombment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. The family suggests memorial donations be made to the St. Joseph Improvement Fund, St. Elizabeth Center, or the Venango County Humane Society. Online condolences may be sent at www.reinselfuneralhome.com Richard E. Hogue, 80, of 572 Tippery Road, Seneca, died at 2:50 p.m. Saturday, May 2, 2009, at UPMC Northwest in Seneca. Born March 16, 1929, in Oil City, he was a son of the late Charles E. and Grace Croop Hogue. Mr. Hogue graduated from Cranberry High School in 1949. He owned and operated Dick's restaurant in Oil City from 1952 to 1962. He then worked at Foster Forbes Glass Company until his retirement in 1984. Mr. Hogue was a member of the Heckathorn United Methodist Church and served as treasurer of the Heckathorn Cemetery Association. He was also a member of the Titusville IOOF Lodge No. 304 and past nobel grand of Oil City, and past patriarch of encampment of Oil City. He also served as a scout master for Boy Scout Troop 111. He enjoyed taking bus trips, camping at Clear Creek State Park, cooking Sunday dinners, and most of all spending time with his family. He is survived by four siblings, Pauline E. Hogue, with whom he made his home, Carol McCartney and her husband, Donald, of Rouseville, Wayne Hogue, and his wife Sue, of Tippery, and Kathy Johnson and her husband, Michael, of Venus; a sister-in-law, Trudy Hogue of Venus; and many friends. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and several great-nieces and great-nephews, all of whom he loved deeply. Along with his parents he was preceded in death a brother, Gary B. Hogue. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Morrison Funeral Home and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Heckathorn United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the church with the Rev. Pat Ellis and the Rev. Pete Knight officiating. Interment will be in Heckathorn Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, the Area Agency on Aging, or the VNA Foundation-Hospice. John L. O'Neil Jr., 86, of Knox, formerly of Seneca, died at 2:45 p.m. Sunday, May 3, 2009, at St. Vincent Health Center in Erie. The David C. McEntire Funeral Home of Knox is in charge of arrangements. A complete obituary will be published Tuesday in The Derrick. Robert J. Smerkar, 94, of Shippenville, died Friday, May 1, 2009, at his daughter's home in Brookville. Born April 23, 1915, in Fryburg, he was the son of the late John and Amanda Smerkar. Mr. Smerkar worked at the former Niederriter Lumber as a sawyer. He spent most of his working years as a truck driver for A P Weaver and Sons and retired from there. After his official retirement, he worked part-time as a bartender at the Fryburg Hotel. He was a member of St. Michael Church. Mr. Smerkar was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed spending time with family. He was married on June 27, 1935, to the former Virginia Weaver, who preceded him in death. Surviving are two sons, Thomas Smerkar and his wife, Vicki, of Venus, and David Smerkar and his wife, Janet, of Shippenville; three daughters, Leota Lauer of Jersey Shore, Pa., Rebecca Kaye and husband, William, of Casselberry, Fla., and Bonita Yeaney and husband, James, of Brookville. Also surviving are a daughter-in-law, Mary Smerkar of Sligo; 28 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren. Survivors also include a brother, Bill Smerkar; sisters, Betty Miller, Doris Cherico, Rita Kiaser and Ruth Morrocco; and sisters-in-law, Louise Smerkar, Patsy Francisco, Delila Ochs and Eulalia Frederick. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert Smerkar Jr.; a brother; Raymond Smerkar; and sisters, Mildred Strickenberg and Thelma Thomas. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Faller Funeral Home, Inc. in Fryburg. A parish vigil service will be celebrated at 3:45 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mass of a Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Michael Church in Fryburg, with Rev. David Poulson, pastor, as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Michael Cemetery. The family suggests memorial donations be made to St. Michael Church or to Clarion-Forest VNA Hospice of Knox. Jonathan Crist Wenner, 57, of Irvine, Pa., formerly of Strattanville, died unexpectedly of natural causes Sunday, May 3, 2009, at his home. Born Sept. 8, 1951, in Clarion, he was a son of Donald and Bessie Blair Wenner. He graduated in 1970 from Clarion-Limestone High School. Mr. Wenner served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was a heavy equipment operator, working for Meadville Land Services. He was of the Methodist faith. He loved fishing, hunting, boating and the river. He also enjoyed watching baseball and football. Surviving are three children, Jonathan Crist Wenner II and his companion, Ann, of Oil City, Mindy Jane Etter of Columbus, Ohio, and Jeremy Lee Wenner and his wife, Jennifer, of Strattanville; his companion, Marion Cover of Northern Cambria; and a brother, Donald Wenner Jr. of Knoxville, Tenn. Survivors also include two sisters, Nancy Deitz of North Carolina and Cindy Salsbury of Medina, Ohio; and eight grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Donna Ganoe. Friends will be received from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home in Clarion. A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday in the funeral home. Edinger memorial service set A memorial service for Kathleen Love Edinger of Knox, who passed away on Jan. 10, 2009, at the age of 73, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 5, at the William N. Rupert Mortuary in Knox. The Rev. Dan Myers will officiate. Getting it Right - Anna Marcella King Anna Marcella King, 88, of 3393 N. Main St., Sandy Lake, passed away after at brief illness at 1 a.m. Friday, May 1, 2009, surrounded by her children and most of her grandchildren. Among her survivors is a son, Richard D. King and his wife, Robin, of Stoneboro.
