The Derrick, May 2, 2009: James Eric Baugher Sr., Zebulon, N.C., formerly of Oil City Elizabeth "Betty" Ditz, Shippenville Louise G. Jordan, of Clarion Ronald Edward Walentoski, of 669 Hill City Road, Cranberry Anna Marcella King, of Sandy Lake James Eric Baugher Sr., 70, of Zebulon, N.C., formerly of Oil City and a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars, passed away at 3:20 a.m. Thursday, April 30, 2009. Born May 20, 1938, in Franklin, he was the son of Luella Croop Baugher Oakes and Walter N. Baugher. He and the former Mary Jill Grasinger of Pittsburgh were married Oct. 1, 1960, in San Antonio, Texas, while he was serving in the United States military. She survives. Mr. Baugher served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1975. He served in Korea and Vietnam, and he retired as a sergeant first class. He also walked guard at President John F. Kennedy's grave in Arlington, Va., and participated in Lyndon B. Johnson's presidential inauguration. He received the following medals while in the service: Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal Sixth Award, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 device, and Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm. After retirement from the military, he was employed with Koppers in Rouseville for 15 years until his retirement. He enjoyed spending time with his family having cookouts, playing horseshoes, playing cards, and building home projects. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and one daughter, Mark Alan Baugher and his wife, Caron, of Fort Bragg, N.C., Matthew James Baugher and his wife, Karen, of Oil City and Judith Ann Baugher, of Corry; a granddaughter, Stephanie Baugher Laws of Boise, Idaho; and three grandsons, Mark Alan Baugher Jr. of Wilkes Barre, Christian James Brewster of Corry and Matthew Gunner Baugher of Oil City. He is also survived by two sisters, Joyce Hall of Ohio and Karen Oakes Haag of Oil City; and two brothers, Charles "Bud" Oakes and Ronald Oakes of North Carolina. Mr. Baugher was preceded in death by his mother; his stepfather, Charles Oakes; his son, James Eric Baugher Jr.; his sister, Beverly J. Braden; and an infant sister, Donna Mae Oakes. Elizabeth "Betty" Ditz, 84, of Shippenville, a former schoolteacher and principal, passed away Thursday, April 30, 2009, at the Clarion-Forest VNA Hospice House, following a lengthy illness. Born Jan. 27, 1925, in Pittsburgh, the daughter of George and Pearl Staub Fergusson. She was married Aug. 20, 1955, to Augustine Ditz, who preceded her in death Jan. 31, 2009. In 1942 she graduated from St. Ursuline Academy in Cleveland, Ohio. She also was a graduate of Clarion State Teachers College. Mrs. Ditz taught for many years at numerous local grade schools. She taught at Emlenton Elementary School and also served as the building principal until her retirement in 1988. She was a member of St. Michael Church in Fryburg. Mrs. Ditz is survived by two daughters, Catherine Frederick and her husband, Rick, of Tylersburg and Marianne Halford of Savannah, Ga.; six grandchildren, Benjamin Frederick, Johnathan Frederick, Michael Frederick, Heather Frederick, Sarah Frederick, and Faith Halford; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her family and was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Stein,and two sisters, Doris Maxwell and Mary Stein. There will be no viewing or visitation, as per her request. Her wish also was to be cremated. A memorial mass for Mrs. Ditz and her husband, Augustine "Gus" Ditz, will be held at 10 a.m. Aug. 8, 2009, at St. Michael Church with burial in St. Michael Cemetery following the mass. Jordan , 94, of Clarion, an active community member who also was a Pennsylvania Mother of the Year, died Thursday, April 30, 2009, at the Golden Living Center of Clarion. Born March 17, 1915, in Porter Township, Clarion County, she was the daughter of Harvey E. and Lottie Stewart Glinkerman. She was a graduate of New Bethlehem High School. She was married Aug. 23, 1948, to Russell Thomas (Tud) Jordan, who preceded her in death Nov. 15, 1971. Before her marriage, she was employed by New Bethlehem Bank, First National Bank pf Clarion, Clarion State College and Owens-Illinois in both Clarion and Toledo, Ohio. After the death of her husband, she worked for Phero's Food Market and Charles Amsler, Public Accountant, and later was the Clarion County tax claim director. Mrs. Jordan was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Clarion for 63 years, having united with the New Bethlehem Presbyterian Church in 1924. She served as a deacon and an elder for the church and also was a member of the remodeling, pulpit nominating, renovation, education and parish life committees. She was also active in the Presbyterian Women's Association, having served as president, and was on other committees. She was active in the Onized Ladies Auxiliary and was a member of the O-I Quarter Century and the Golden Emblem clubs at Owens-Illinois. Her other activities included the Clarion Women's Club, having served as president and on other committees. She was president of the Clarion County Republican Women and also served on the Clarion Borough Planning Commission, United Way of Clarion County, the Clarion County Historical Society and the Clarion Homemakers. In 1973 she was nominated and elected as Pennsylvania Mother of the Year and served in 1974 and 1975 as secretary of the Pennsylvania Branch of American Mothers. She is survived by two sons, Dale C. Jordan of Richmond, Va., and Frederick R. Jordan of Clarion; and two daughters, Karen J. Gause and her husband, Paul, of Wynnewood, and Joyce L. Jordan of Bradford; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur and Charles. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Goble Funeral Home and Crematory, 330 Wood St., Clarion, Pa., 16214. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m Monday at the First Presbyterian Church of Clarion with the Rev. Scott Hauser officiating. Interment will be in Clarion Cemetery. Ronald Edward Walentoski, 60, of 669 Hill City Road, Cranberry, died at 12:15 p.m. Thursday, April 30, 2009, at UPMC Northwest in Seneca . He had been stricken earlier at his home. Born June 23, 1948, in Oil City, he was the son of the late Edward S. and Rose Duda Walentoski. He was married to Alice Hathaway Pyle of Titusville, who was his life companion since 1972, and she survives. Mr. Walentoski attended St. Joseph Grade School and was a graduate of Oil City High School. A veteran, he was a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force and served during the Vietnam Era from Feb. 20, 1968, through Feb. 19, 1974. He also saw duty in Korea. Mr. Walentoski had been on disability since November 2007. He worked previously in the maintenance department at Consolidated Containers for 11 years. Earlier, he worked at Allied Roll Builders in Pleasantville and also Webco Steel and Acutus Mold in Oil City. Mr. Walentoski was of the Catholic faith. He enjoyed taking his boat out fishing, hunting, gardening and going to the movies at the mall with his grandson, Brandon. In addition to his wife, Mr. Walentoski is survived by two step-children, Richard Pyle and his wife, Yukimi, of Charlotte, N.C. and Rebecca Pyle-Stone and her husband, Howard, of Clintonville; and three step-grandchildren, Brandon Sheats, Emily Stone and Uku Pyle. He also is survived by two brothers, Edward J. Walentoski and Gary Walentoski; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Walentoski was preceded in death by his twin brother, Donald E. Walentoski, on May 14, 1999. Main St., Sandy Lake, passed away after a brief illness at 1 a.m. Friday, May 1, 2009, surrounded by her children and most of her grandchildren. Born Feb. 3, 1921, in Reedsville, she was a daughter to the late Chester F. and Susan Katherine McElhoe. She was married Feb. 26, 1944, to Harry W. King, who preceded her in death Oct. 30, 1975. Mrs. King was a 1939 graduate of Reedsville High School. She spent many years employed by the Lakeview School District in the cafeteria where she enjoyed seeing all the children, including many of her own children and grandchildren. Mrs. King enjoyed reading, spending time with her family, working crossword puzzles in ink, watching sports and traveling. Mrs. King is survived by five daughters, Deborah A. Patton of Sandy Lake, with whom she made her home, Marcia J. Moore and her husband, Curtis, of Sandy Lake, Katherine Patricia Adamson and her husband, Robert, of Sandy Lake, Cynthia K. Beggs and her husband, Steven, of Sandy Lake and Edna Jean Black and her husband, David, of New Castle; three sons, Thomas N. King and his wife, Sharon, of Mercer, Richard D. King and his wife, Robin, of Edinboro and Jeffrey W. King and his wife, Tina, of Jackson Center; a dear niece, Norma Jean Wendt and her husband, Robert, of Sunbury; and 28 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. King was preceded in death by two sons, Harry W. "Brother" King III and John H. King; two sisters, Deborah Shirk and Grace Kerstetter; and three brothers, Paul McElhoe, Bruce McElhoe and Chester W. McElhoe. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Scott A.
