There is a local woman who has done extensive research on the Kisers and, if it hasn't already been sent to the publishers, has a 300-400 page book ready for publishing. It probably has at least 150-200 pictures in it. My husband's family goes back through both Catharine and John Peter Kiser. George Beamer would be his "first cousin 4 generations removed". > Am looking for the address for the following Cemeteries > > ELK04 Pleasant Hills -- Shippenville Elk Township > > Mt. 3. Hi, I am related to this line through my maternal grandfather - James Blaine Kelley. His mother was Velma Mae Kiser daughter of Willard Edwin Kiser and Naoma Easton. I've been working on my Doutt line (maternal grandmother's family), when I got an email from Linda Jemmett the other day. She posted a bunch of photo's not long ago, from this cemetery on Findagrave, and sent me a message that I had posted the information in the wrong cemetery. I'm not from Missouri, but since I had some written documentation, I felt the need to check it out before just changing it on her say so alone - always document everything. Earl Hitt did some pretty extensive research as this was one of his wife's lines. He compiled information and published it a number of years ago based on Avalyn Kiser's research. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Connie Raybuck" <craybuck@windstream.net> To: <gc-gateway@rootsweb.com>; <paclario@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, May 19, 2009 12:12 PM Subject: Re: [PACLARIO] Address for Pleasant Hills Cemetery and Mount Pleasant Cemetery > gc-gateway@rootsweb.com wrote: >> This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. >> >> Author: janetaba1 >> Surnames: Kiser >> Classification: cemetery >> >> Message Board URL: >> >> http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.pennsylvania.counties.clarion/4043/mb.ashx >> >> Message Board Post: >> Janet, > These are the same cemetery. 3. The reason I want to verify the data is because I'm not very familiar with Pennsylvania's geography, and when I find things that don't quite match up, I try to get as much corroborating information as possible. Here is something that I found that made me want to make sure that there weren't two different cemeteries. When you take a look at Mount Pleasant and Pleasant Hills, there are two different latitude/longitude listings. The difference isn't much, but it is there. There appears to be when viewed on the Epodunk map, that they are on two different sides of Highway 322. I was requesting the address so that I could contact the cemetery itself to see if there was a name change, just so that I could add that information to my records. The fact that there were two listings, makes me feel the need to verify the information. I was in no way criticing your research, just trying to clarify things in my own mind. I actually appreciate that you posted it to me so that I would research it further. I've been researching since I was 14 (34 years now), and have found that multiple sources for the same information is always a good idea. 3. Janet, It is no problem. I was just stating that the cemetery where George Beamer Kiser is buried is Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Note, however, that on the epodunk site, it says "submitted by an epodunk user Feb. 8, 2007" for both cemeteries. After looking at this site, it appears that someone has confused Mt. Zion Cemetery in Shippenville by calling it "Mount Pleasant" on this map. Because the designation on that map for "Mount Pleasant" is where Mt. Zion Cemetery is. Again, that is not to say that perhaps Mt. Zion was named or known as Mount Pleasant in the past, but it is now Mt. Zion. There are also many Kisers buried in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Shippenville, including Peter and Mary Strauss Kiser. Then the designation on the map for Pleasant Hill Cemetery looks to be incorrect. It is actually on the north side of 322, (almost where it shows Mount Pleasant). These two cemeteries are actually quite close together. Mt Zion is more on the intersection of 322 and 208 and then Pleasant Hill Cemetery is just down 322 a little bit going towards Clarion. Soo today they are Mt. Zion and Pleasant Hill. I don't know how one would go about correcting info on epodunk. Again, this is not to say that either of these cemeteries weren't known as Mount Pleasant in the past. To my knowledge, there is no Mount Pleasant Cemetery today. If there is, or if someone knows of one, feel free to let me know where it is located. ---------------------------------------- > From: janetaba@windstream.net > To: paclario@rootsweb.com > Date: Tue, 19 May 2009 16:40:06 -0500 > Subject: Re: [PACLARIO] Address for Pleasant Hills Cemetery andMount Pleasant Cemetery > > The reason I want to verify the data is because I'm not very familiar with > Pennsylvania's geography, and when I find things that don't quite match up, > I try to get as much corroborating information as possible.
