Yates, 429 Colerain St., Sligo Getting it right - Donna Whitmore Heffern Harry A. Haney Sr., 81, of Franklin, died at 9:20 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008, in his home. Born Dec. 9, 1926, he was the son of Lawrence Haney and Luewella Haun. Mr. Haney was employed as a maintenance worker at Franklin Steel. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene. He enjoyed collecting and restoring Bibles, collecting angels and stamps, his daily walks around the beautiful streets of Franklin, listening to Christian music and his beloved pet cat Snoopy. Mr. Haney was married April 15, 1950, to the former Evelyn Peterson, who survives. Also surviving are two children, Harry Haney Jr. and his wife, Pam, of Fort Pierce, Fla., and Eleanor Moyer and her husband, Tim, of Franklin; five grandchildren, Patty Aaron and her husband, Rob, of Franklin, Larry Moyer and his wife, Maria, of Franklin, Jeff Haney and his wife, Christal, of Mansfield, Ohio, and Stacey and Stephanie Haney, both of Fort Pierce, Fla. Also surviving is a sister, Arlene Haggerty of Franklin; a brother, Paul Haney of Franklin; and five great-grandchildren, Sarah Haney of Fort Piece, Fla., Matthew, Brittany and Colton Aaron of Franklin; and Kaleb Moyer of Franklin. In addition to his parents, Mr. Haney was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, Clarence and Lawrence Haney; and one sister, Donna Hughes. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Robert W. Gardinier Funeral Home Inc. in Franklin. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Donald Chamberlain, retired pastor of the Church of the Nazarene, officiating. Interment will be in Graham Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the VNA Foundation Hospice. Thomas R. "Tom" McCoy, 75, of Parker, passed away early morning, on Monday, Oct. 20, 2008 at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh following a brief illness. Born in Perry Township, Clarion County, on Nov. 16, 1932, he was the son of the late Chester R. and Cora E. Gallagher McCoy. Mr. McCoy was a graduate of the former Parker High School and was a 33-year employee of the former Glass Containers Corp. at Parker. He retired from the warehouse department. He was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church at Parker. He was honorably discharged from the U. S. Army as a specialist 4. He served from 1957 to 1959, working primarily with guided missile units. In addition to his love of his family, he thoroughly enjoyed gardening and hunting. He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Ann Armstrong, whom he married April 24, 1952; one daughter Kim McCoy McFadden and husband, Brent, of Parker; two grandchildren, Erica and Allen VanWart, both of Parker; two sisters, Geraldine Master, of West Monterey, and Dorothy Anthony and husband, John "Banjo," of Dutch Hill. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, a brother, Wade McCoy, preceded him in death. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, at H. Jack Buzard Funeral Home, Inc., Wayne St., Parker. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church of Parker with the Rev. Richard Anschutz officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Lucille J. "Scotty" Mensch, 93, of Golden Living Center, Shippenville, formerly of Marienville, died at 11:15 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008, at UPMC Northwest. Born June 25, 1915, in Kane, she was the daughter of Orvel S. and Leora E. Simpson Scott. She married Ray L. Mensch on June 5, 1940, and he preceded her in death in 2004. Mrs. Mensch graduated from Kane High School in 1933. She was a member of Marienville First Presbyterian Church and was a charter member and past matron of the Order of Eastern Star. Mrs. Mensch was the postmaster at Marienville for 35 years. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. George (Jane) Hillard of Seneca; one son, L. Scott Mensch and his wife, Elaine, of Pittsburgh; three grandchildren, Susan Groner and her husband, David, of Oil City, Vincent Hillard of Boardman, Ohio, and Ryan Mensch of Pittsburgh; and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Mensch was preceded in death by one grandson, Daniel Hillard. The family will receive family and friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Ronald McDonald Funeral Home in Marienville. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The Rev. Boyd Edmondson, pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Marienville, will officiate. Interment will be at North Forest Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Marienville Presbyterian Church or the Marienville Library. Richard L. Neeley, 77, of Port Charlotte, Fla., formerly of Franklin and Rocky Grove, died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008, in Florida. Mr. Neely, a 1949 Rocky Grove High School graduate, retired from the military and federal government service. Among his survivors in this area are a brother-in-law, DeWayne Brinker; a niece Terri Weaver; and a nephew, Duane Brinker. Lois Jean Winters, 69, of 7 East 2nd St., Town Towers, Oil City, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008, at her residence. Morrison Funeral Home will be handling arrangements. Walter C. Yates, 72, of 429 Colerain St., Sligo, died Sunday afternoon, Oct. 18, 2008, following a sudden illness at home. Born Sept. 10, 1936, in Toby Township, Clarion County, he was the son of Earl and Mildred Mitchell Yates. Mr. Yates was married May 29, 1959, to the former Virginia "Ginny" Hile. She preceded him in death on Oct. 22, 1990. He worked at the Owens-Brockway glass plant in Clarion for more than 20 years. He retired as a bottle inspector on March 1, 1996. Mr. Yates was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Surviving are a daughter, Deborah Miller and her husband Jeffrey of Parker; three sons, Daniel Yates and his wife Linda of Sligo, Camby Yates of Kingsville and Heath Yates of Sligo; six grandchildren, Brock Yates, Jeff Miller Jr., Kristin Yates, Joseph Farrell, Lydia Miller and Steven Yates; and one great-grandson, Brock Yates Jr. Also surviving are three sisters, Janice Tascarella and her husband Sam of East Brady, Judy Snyder and her husband Jerry of Sligo and Joy Rhoads and her husband Lester of Rimersburg; three brothers, Jack Yates of Clarion, Gene Yates of Rimersburg and Jay Yates of Rimersburg; and a sister-in-law, Sue Yates of Hernando, Fla. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Yates. There will be no visitation at Mr. Yates' request. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will follow in the Sligo Cemetery. The Varner Funeral Home in Sligo is in charge of arrangements. Getting it right - Donna Whitmore Heffern Donna Whitmore Heffern, 65, of 1220 Chestnut St., Franklin, died at 12:45 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008, at her residence after a courageous battle with cancer. Mrs. Heffern's survivors include three stepchildren, William Heffern Jr. of Franklin, Mary Ann Hubert of Kissimmee, Fla., and Kim Schroder of Erie.
