    3. The Derrick, October 31, 2008: Harry A. Nosker, Polk Clara E. Rice, Titusville Dorothy M. Ritz, Rouseville, formerly of Oil City Edward A. Wiant, Fairmount City Getting it right - Margaret Plummer Harry A. Nosker, 84, of 212 McClelland Ave., Polk, died at 8:55 a.m. Oct. 30, 2008, at the Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. Born Aug. 31, 1924, in Smicksburg, he was the son of the late Charles A Nosker and June Elinor Howe. Mr. Nosker was employed by Polk Center for 38 years as the plumbing supervisor before retiring in 1983. He was also the owner and operator of Nosker Heating & Plumbing as well as a barber in his house in Polk for many years. Mr. Nosker was married Dec. 15, 1964, to Alice Jean Brandt who preceded him in death. Mr. Nokser was a World War II Army veteran. He was a member of Polk United Methodist Church, Past Master Myrtle Lodge #316 (four times), Past Commander Franklin Commandry #44, Past High Priest Venango Chapter #211, Past Thrice Illustrious Master of Keystone Council #42, member of Valley New Castle Ancient & Accepted Scottish Rite, member of Valley Oil City, member of KB Club, member of Washington Club, past board member Franklin Fraternal Federation, member VFW Post #8803 in Tidioute, former mayor of Polk, a member of Isaac Waltons Rifle Club, and Polk "Man of the Year" in 1982. Mr. Nosker was a member of Polk Fire and Rescue (formerly known ast the Waterloo House Co.) and received a lifetime member award from them. He also helped start the Polk Ambulance Service. Mr. Nosker enjoyed hunting, fishing, carpentry and family cookouts. Mr. Nosker is survived by four children, Kevin Nosker and his wife, Pam, of Polk; Dotte Brooks and her husband, Gaylord, of Polk; Sheila Sherman and her husband, Tom, of Polk; and Cheryl Brouillette of Loganville, Ga. He is survived by 16 grandchildren, Joshua Brooks and his wife, Shelly, of Louisiana; Beth Freer and her husband, Douglas, of Polk; Rachael Buckley of Polk; Cody Buckley of Polk; Casey Sherman of Grove City; Stephanie Sherman of Grove City; Brad Nosker of Polk; Bobbie Jo Herrlich and her husband, Doug, of Rouseville; Tony Heasley of Polk; Michael McCollough and his wife, Jami, of Loganville, Ga.; Michele Turner and her husband, Jeff, of Lawrenceville, Ga.; David Brouillette and his wife, Donna, of Wolcott, Conn.; Denise Dauphinais and husband, Rob, of Wolcott, Conn.; Judy O'Neil of Charleston, W.V.; and Mark Brouillette of Loganville, Ga. Mr. Nosker is also survived by a brother, James Nosker and his wife, Nina, of Stoneboro; a special friend, Mary Bonnanni of Grove City; a brother-in-law, John Shawkey of Clarks Mills; and a sister-in-law, Alice Nosker of Stoneboro. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Nosker was preceded in death by a grandchild, Robert Heasley; a great-granddaughter, Makenzie Herrlich; four brothers, Robert Nosker, Francis Nosker, Raymond Nosker and Harold Nosker; and two sisters, Jesse Patterson and Ruth Shawkey. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Robert W. Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut St., Franklin. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with the Rev. Lea Guiney, of Polk United Methodist Church, and the Rev. Daryl Adams, a retired Free Methodist minister, officiating. Interment will be at Old Sandy Cemetery. Rice, 94, of 11200 Prichard Road, Titusville, died at 11 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2008, at the Crawford County Care Center in Saegertown, where she had been a resident since May of this year. Born Feb. 7, 1914, in Troy Twp., she was the daughter of William and Emma Dille Marvin. She was married to James Rice in 1938 at Dempseytown, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 13, 1974. Mrs. Rice was a caregiver and domestic worker for a number of families in the area. She was a member of Diamond United Methodist Church and the Women's Missionary Society of the church, and she was a charter member of the Chapmanville Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxilary. Mrs. Rice enjoyed crocheting, sewing, baking and cooking for family and friends and spending time with her family. She is survived by two children, Arden Rice and his wife, Virginia, of Meadville and Norma Cresswell of Titusville; seven grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; two brothers, Charles Marvin and his friend, Audrey, of President and Neil Marvin and his wife, Dixie, of Titusville; two sisters, Donna Becker and her husband, Robert, of Oil City and Edith Frank and her husband, Charles, of Oil City; three sisters-in-law, Burla Mumford of Meadville; Tillie Marvin of Oil City; and Leora Marvin of Oil City; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold Marvin, Curtis Marvin and Lee Marvin; and two sisters, Lucille Vogus and Joyce Pritchard. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home, 303 N. Washington St., Titusville. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Diamond United Methodist Church with the Rev. Stephen Tiffany, pastor of the church, officiating. Interment will be in Sunville Cemetery. The family asks that memorials be made to Diamond United Methodist Church. Dorothy M. Ritz, 86, of 432 Main St., Rouseville, formerly of Oil City, died Oct. 29, 2008, at Tracy Jo's Personal Care in Rouseville. Born March 1, 1922 in Huey, she was the daughter of the late James J. and Sadie V. Vogel Lauffer. A long-time resident of Oil City, Mrs. Ritz moved to Tracy Jo's Personal Care Home in Rouseville in May 1998 where she enjoyed the last 10 years of her life. Mrs. Ritz was a 1941 graduate of Oil City High School and later worked at the National Transit Company. She was well known to area readers for her years of service at the Oil City Library from 1960 to 1982. Mrs. Ritz was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Ryan in 1958 and by her second husband, Joseph L. Ritz in 1996. Surviving are a son, James Ryan of Wellsboro; one daughter, Nancy Ryan of Berea, Ky.; a sister, Ruth Wilson of Seneca; two nephews, Thomas Wilson of Seneca; and Steven Wilson and family of Pittsburgh; and special friends, Glenn and Marcia Miller of Oil City and the caring staff of Tracy Jo's Personal Care Home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Morrison Funeral Home, 110 Petroleum St., Oil City, preceded by visitation from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Burial will take place at Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mrs. Ritz' name may be made to the Oil City Library or to VNA Foundation Hospice, 491 Allegheny Blvd., Franklin. Edward Arnold Wiant, 85, of Fairmount City died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008, at Jefferson Manor in Brookville. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 12 to 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Rupert Funeral Home in New Bethlehem. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Getting it right - Margaret Plummer Margaret Plummer, 94, of 103 N. 13th St., Franklin, formerly of Hillcrest Avenue, Polk, died at 9 p.m. Oct. 28, 2008, at The Caring Place in Franklin.
