The Derrick, November 7, 2008: Thomas William Clark, 618 South St., Clarion Ruth Y. Lindsay, Shippenville Thomas Merle Smith, Cleveland, formerly of Bredinsburg Road James D. Webster, Seneca Thomas William Clark, 77, of 618 South St., Clarion, died at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008, at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh. Born Oct. 7, 1931, at 618 South St. in Clarion, he was the son of the late Clinton V. Clark Sr. and Manila May McMillen Clark. He graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in Clarion in 1949. He also graduated magna cum laude from Gannon University in 1963, and he received the Bishop John Mark Gannon Award. Mr. Clark served in the U.S. Navy. In his earlier years, he worked at Owens-Illinois Glass Plant in Clarion. He was a certified public accountant, he was a co-owner and proprietor of the Bucktails Hotel in Marienville, and he was an antique dealer. Mr. Clark was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Clarion. He enjoyed watching sports, especially baseball, and he also enjoyed going for rides around Clarion. Mr. Clark is survived by six sisters, Maryann C. Speer of Clarion, W. Jane Kinkead and her husband, Charles, of Apollo, Nancy E. Hess of Jacksonville, Fla., M. Shirley McNamara and her husband, John, of DeLong, Fla., Rose Mary "Rosie" Clark, with whom he lived in Clarion, and A. Maureen Clark of Monroeville. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Clark was preceded in death by two brothers, Vincent Clark and Joseph Clark; one infant sister; and two brothers-in-law, Albert Speer and Richard Hess. Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 3 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home in Clarion. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Clarion with the Rev. Monty Sayers officiating. Born Dec. 23, 1926, in Knox, she was the daughter to Alfred and Sarah Rowe Youkers. She was married Jan. 26, 1946, to Harry C. Lindsay, and he preceded her in death in December 1990. She was a graduate of Parker High School. Mrs. Lindsay enjoyed reading, playing bridge, bowling and playing golf with her husband and friends. She also loved spending time with her family and her grandchildren. She was a member of Pinecrest Country Club and Foxburg Country Club. Mrs. Lindsay is survived by a daughter, Sherry Grimm and her husband, Lewis, of Herndon, Va.; a grandson, Matt Grimm of Rockville, Md.; a daughter, Sally Hall and her husband, Preston, and their children, Clint Hall and Catie Hall, all of Clarion. Also surviving are her sisters, Fran Shoup of Vestal, N.Y., and Marilyn Graff of Port Charlotte, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Lindsay was preceded in death by a brother, Harold A. Youkers, and a sister, Jean Eckels North. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15, at Grace Lutheran Church in Clarion. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. that day with the Rev. Harold O. Merele Smith, 61, of Cleveland, formerly of Bredinsburg Road, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, Oct. 27, 2008. Born Oct. 20, 1947 in Reidsburg, he was the son of Merle and Barbara Smith. He was a graduate of Cranberry High School and Clarion University. He began his career as a high school history teacher and later earned his master's degree in psychology from Edinboro University. Mr. Smith opened North Coast Guidance, a private practice in Cleveland, in 1984 and dedicated his life to helping others as a professional clinical counselor. His greatest accomplishment was being a consistent source of strength and encouragement to his family. Mr. Smith is survived by his parents, Merle and Barbara Smith of Cleveland, formerly of Bredinsburg Road.; and two sisters, Judith Proper and her husband, Ronald, of Cleveland and Margery Blauser and her husband, Robert, of Fredonia. Mr. Smith also was the beloved father of Michelle Smith Kinney and her husband, Michael, and Danielle Smith, all of Columbus, Ohio, and Melinda Smith Yeargin and her husband, Rocco, of Akron, Ohio. He was a loving grandfather to Zachary, Schuyler, Lauren and Caitlin. A memorial service to celebrate his life was held Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008, at Bay Presbyterian Church in Bay Village, Ohio. James D. Webster, 69, of Seneca, died at 11:15 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008, at UPMC Northwest in Seneca. The Morrison Funeral Home in Oil City is in charge of arrangements.
