    3. The Derrick, June 4, 2009: Robert A. Fischer, 612 Limber Road, Meadville Patricia Ann Harvey, Scott Drive, Oil City Mildred M. Hindman, Frontier Way, Clarion Kenneth P. Reeves, 214 Orchard St., Oil City Richard F. Roll, Franklinville, N.Y. Vincent J. "Jeep" Salvadori, Seminole Phyllis A. Stearns, Sunville Grace E. Wallace, Tionesta Robert A. Fischer, 82, of 612 Limber Rd., Meadville, passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at Wesbury United Methodist Community, Meadville. Born Feb. 21, 1927, in Oil City, he was the son of the late Edward and Ceclia Delo Fischer. He was married Oct. 23, 1948, to Helen Filipowski, who survives. Robert was a 1945 graduate of Cranberry High School. Mr. Fischer was an active member of St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church, where he served on various committees, including the Garden Committee. He was also involved with church decorating for Christmas. In 1986 Robert retired from the Meadville City Police Department after 26 years of service. Having begun his law enforcement career in 1960 as a patrolman, Robert worked his way through the ranks of patrolman specialist in 1968, sergeant in 1974, lieutenant in 1975, acting chief of police in 1978 and chief of police in 1981. Following his retirement, he was employed as deputy sheriff for Crawford County. In his earlier years, he worked for Slye Implement Company of Oil City and W. L. Dunn of Cochranton. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), Northwest Police Chief Association, Meadville Kiwanis Club and the Meadville Elks Club. Mr. Fischer was a volunteer for Meadville Medical Center as a Red Coatsman and volunteered as a driver for the American Cancer Society. His hobbies included playing cards as well as bowling and golfing in team leagues. In addition to his wife of 60 years, Mr. Fischer is survived by a son, Robert L. Fischer and his wife, Vickie, of Meadville; a daughter, Renie Fischer Deschamps of Meadville; three grandchildren, Samuel Fischer, Erik Deschamps, Daniel Fischer; a sister-in-law, Jane Fischer of Youngsville; a close family friend, D. Joseph Huff; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by a brother, John Fischer. Family and friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville where a scripture service will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church in Meadville with the Rev. Rocco Tito, of the church, officiating. Interment will take place in St. Brigid Cemetery, West Mead Township. Patricia Ann Harvey, 83, of Scott Drive, Oil City, died at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at Titusville Area Hospital following a brief illness. Born Dec. 15, 1925, in Superior, Wis., she was the daughter of George J Spindler Sr. and Bertha Krause Spindler. When she moved to Oil City in 1959, she became active in the YWCA, and was a charter member of the Thursday club and a member the YWCA quilting club. When she was not attending the school or sporting events of her seven children, she found time to graduate in 1976 from Clarion State College with a bachelor of science degree in elementary education. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, bird watching and the scenic views of Pennsylvania. Her greatest sporting accomplishment came when she became a PIAA track and field official in 1979; she had spent more hours at track meets and possibly knew the rule book better than anyone else. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Oil City and a 10-year volunteer with Titusville Hospital Auxiliary. She met the love of her life at Bemidji State Teachers College in Minnesota, and thus begun the 64-year love affair with LaVerne L. Harvey, whom she married, and he survives. In addition to her husband, she is also survived by six children, LaVerne L. Harvey, Jr. and his wife, Ellen, of Albuquerque, N.M., David G. Harvey and his wife, Trudy, of Pleasantville, April A. Lenar and her husband, Jeffrey Lenar Sr., of Marietta, Ga., Dr. William J. Harvey and his wife, Hollie,of Honeoye Falls, N.Y., George J. Harvey and his wife, Kathy, of Pattenburg, N.J., and Drs. Paul E. Harvey and his wife, Betsy, of Canandaigua, N.Y.; one daughter-in-law, Leslie Harvey of Las Lunes, N.M.; 19 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving are four brothers, George J. Spindler Jr. and his wife, Polly, Theodore W. Spindler and his wife, Carol, Raymond G. Spindler, and his wife, Elaine and Keith A. Spindler and his wife, Martha. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Dr. Charles K. Harvey. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Hile-Best Funeral Home, Inc., 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Grace United Methodist Church, 100 Central Ave., Oil City, with the Rev. Byron Myers, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens, Cranberry Township, Venango County. Born June 21, 1923, in New Salem, she was the daughter of the late Emerson and Nellie Shirey Reichard. She was married Oct. 26, 1940, to John A. Hindman, and he survives. She worked as a hostess for Welcome Wagon in Brookville and Florida and was employed at Comet Market. She also was the tax collector for four years in Limestone. Mrs. Hindman was devoted to her family and her faith. She was particularly proud of each and every accomplishment of her family. She raised her children in Limestone, where she was a faithful member of the Limestone Baptist Church and where she contributed much to ministry. In addition to her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Virginia L. "Ginny" Mellring and her husband, Charles B., of Westerville, Ohio; one son, John R. Hindman and his wife, Sharon, of Strattanville; three grandchildren, Celeste E. Reese and her husband, George, of Sarver, Charles J. Mellring and his wife, Kristen, of Austin, Texas, and Chad L. Mellring of Westerville, Ohio; five great-grandchildren, Melissa, Julia and Rebecca Reese, and Tyler and Sara Mellring; and one sister, Jean Simpson of Brockway. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Jack, Richard and Howard Reichard; one sister, Helen Reichard Brocuiou; and a sister-in-law, Katherine Hindman Curran. There will be no public visitation or funeral services. The Goble Funeral Home and Crematory, 330 Wood St., Clarion, is in charge of arrangements. Roll, 79, of Franklinville, N.Y., passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at Olean General Hospital in Olean, N.Y. Mr. Roll served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Massey from July 1947 to May 1950. Vincent J. "Jeep" Salvadori, 81, of Seminole, a veteran of World War II, died Tuesday, June 2, 2009, in Clarion Hospital. Born Oct. 6, 1927, he was the son of Peter and Pearl Nicolli Salvadori. He was married June 25, 1955, to the former Muriel C. "Connie" Bailey Salvadori, who survives. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Salvadori was a superintendent at St. Charles Refactories, where he had worked for 48 years. He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in New Bethlehem. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Walter W. Craig Post 354 of the American Legion, the VFW and the Loyal Order of Moose lodge in New Bethlehem. In addition to wife, he is survived by a son, Alan Salvadori of Fort Myers, Fla.; two daughters, Carol Valkosky and her husband, Doug, of Punxsutawney and Amy Toth and her husband, Randy, of New Bethlehem; two sisters, Mary Magagnotti of Seminole and Beatrice Vicini of Rural Valley; two brothers, Jospeh Robert Salvadori of Youngstown and Richard Salvadori of Seminole; and four grandchildren, Jeremy Valkosky, Shane Valkosky, Kayla Raybuck and Amber Toth. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Benjamin Salvadori. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Alcorn Funeral Home, Hawthorn. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m.. Friday at St. Charles Catholic Church with the Rev. William Laska presiding. Interment will be in St. Charles Catholic Cemetery. Stearns, 72, of Sunville, went to be with her Lord and Savior at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at Saint Vincent Health Center in Erie. Wallace, 95, of Tionesta , formerly of Etna, died Wednesday, June 3, 2009. She is survived by a daughter, Grace C. Becker and her husband, James; two grandaughters, Darlene Dibucci and Rebecca Deurlein and her husband, Jeffrey; and four great-grandchildren, Ron and Jimmy DiBucci and Rachel and Jonathan Deurlein. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Cecilia Gelston and Rita Neitz. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Neely Funeral Home, 2208 Mt. Royal Blvd., Glenshaw.
