Blandin, 288 Twin Oaks Rd., Polk John E. "Mutt" Cotherman, 173 Lytle Ave., Cooperstown James R. Hanna, Seneca Fred S. McMahon, Titusville Edward Loren Rhoades Sr., Aurora, Colo., formerly of Acme Street, Rimersburg Leon J. "Sam" Wechuck, Franklin Ebba M. Young, Kittanning, formerly of Florida Bernadine Aleith Trimble Aaron, 82, of Belton, Texas, passed away early Saturday morning , June 6, 2009, at the Scott and White Hospital in Temple, Texas. Born Aug. 8, 1926, in Montgomery Township, Indiana County, she was the daughter of Samuel C. and Veda Bennett Trimble. She was married Aug. 11, 1948, to Lawrence T. Aaron, who preceded her death on March 29, 1975. Mrs. Aaron was a homemaker and of the Methodist faith. She is survived by long time companion, Ernest Jones of Belton, Texas; two sons, Steven G. Aaron and wife, Jean, of Temple, Texas and Craig K. Aaron and wife, Donna, of Watauga, Texas; a sister, Lau Rae Ream of Hiram, Ohio; and seven grandchildren, Daniel Aaron, David Kimmel, Heather Kimmel, Kendra McClain, Patrick McDonald, Steven McDonald and Kelly McDonald. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Christine McDonald and two sisters, Darlene Shick and Clarice Phillips. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home in Clarion. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael Catholic Cemetery in Fryburg. Sara Margaret Wolfe Barr, 93, a lifelong resident of Franklin, died Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at Adventist Hinsdale Hospital in Hinsdale, Ill., following medical complications resulting from a broken hip. Mrs. Barr was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Franklin and a choir member there for many years. She also participated in St. Monica's and St. Anne's Guilds. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was active in music in the community. She sang alto in the Choraliers and participated in several shows and community performances with that group as well as with a barbershop music group. Sara was a founding member of the Franklin Civic Operetta Association, along with her brother, Roy, and served on the board as well. She was considered a director emeritus of the association. Following the death of her husband, Evans Robinson Barr, Mrs. Barr worked in the records room at Franklin Hospital and eventually became supervisor, prior to her retirement. In recent years, she has been active in several ladies bridge groups in the Franklin area. Sara will always be remembered for her sunny disposition and ever-present smile. In addition to her husband and parents, Sarah Daisy Wolfe and William Oscar Wolfe, Mrs. Barr was preceded in death by five brothers, William Roy, Sidney Paul, Harry and Harold (twins) and Robert Oscar Wolfe. She is survived by a sister, Shirley W. Grandelis of Franklin; a daughter, Susan B. Olchak and her husband, Richard, of Mt. Airy, N.C.; a son, James R. Barr and his wife, Ardath, of LaGrange Park, Ill.; three grandchildren, John R. Olchak of Los Angeles, Calif., James A. Olchak of Raleigh, N.C., and Laura K. Gibbons of Brookfield, Ill.; two great-grandchildren, Katelyn and Jimmy Gibbons; five nieces; six nephews; and many wonderful friends and neighbors. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Episcopal Church in Franklin with the Rev. Holly A. Davis officiating. Interment will be made in Franklin Cemetery. Blandin, 61, a resident of 288 Twin Oaks Road, Polk, died at 3:53 p.m. Saturday, June 6, 2009, at UPMC Northwest in Seneca, following an extended illness. Born April 5, 1948, in Oil City, she was a beloved daughter of the late Lee H. and Elizabeth (Bucholz) Irwin. She was married July 23, 1966, to Michael F. Blandin, who survives. Mrs. Blandin was a 1966 graduate of Venango Christian High School in Oil City and had attended the Venango Campus of Clarion University, where she graduated as a licensed practical nurse. She worked for many years at the former Riverside Market in Franklin and while there, was responsible for starting the market's floral department. Following the market's closing, she was employed for a number of years as a nurse's aide in the former Venango Manor. She had also worked at the Autumn Grove Convalescent Home in Harrisville and most recently, as a licensed practical nurse in the Transitional Care Unit of UPMC Northwest in Seneca. She was a member of St. Patrick Church in Franklin and was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, the Multiple Sclerosis Society and the Pennsylvania Nursing Association. As her health permitted, Mrs. Blandin enjoyed planting flowers around her home and spending time with her pet dogs. Mostly though, she enjoyed spending quality time with her family, cooking and baking for them and cherished the time she was able to spend with her grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she is survived by four children, Kimberly Shawgo and husband, Todd, of Franklin, Michelle Hall and husband, Charles, of Franklin, Sharon Israel of Polk and Stephen Blandin and wife, Florence, of Franklin; seven grandchildren, Tyler Blandin, Megan and Nolan Hall, Andrea Israel, Samantha, Erica and Hadden Blandin; and a step-grandson, Jeremy Shawgo. She is also survived by a sister, Irene McQuown of Wolcott, N.Y.; two brothers, Lee T. Irwin and wife, Ann, of Oil City and Charles Irwin and wife, Janice, of Seneca; and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Austin James Israel, three sisters, Helen Hollingsworth, Rosemary Coogan and Alberta Lingo and two brothers, Leroy and Donald Irwin. "Mutt" Cotherman, 60, a well-known resident for many years of 173 Lytle Ave., Cooperstown, died peacefully at 2 a.m. Saturday morning, June 6, 2009, at UPMC Northwest in Seneca. Born Jan. 26, 1949, in Oil City, he was the beloved son of the late Chester Francis and Doris Mae (Kulasza) Cotherman. He was married June 1, 1968, to the former Kay Foulds, who survives. Mr. Cotherman attended the Oil City area schools and was a 1967 graduate of Oil City High School. Following his high school graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he proudly served his country during peacetime. For his working career, he was employed as a Quality Control Inspector for U.S. Steel Corp. in Oil City, Meadville Forge and Grand Valley Manufacturing Co. of Warren. Along with his entire family, Mr. Cotherman was known throughout the area for his championship beagle dogs. They ran their field trial beagles competitively for many years at both the Rainbow and Fryburg Beagle Clubs. He was most proud of his three beloved champion beagles. Mr. Cotherman was a member of the Donation Hill Church and was a founding member of the Cooperstown Athletic Association, a founding member of the former Venango County Unemployed Council and for many years was a member of the Cooperstown Volunteer Fire Department. Family had always mattered most to him. He enjoyed spending quality time with his family, his current dog "Chomper," dirt track racing, bowling and hunting. He was always their for his friends, he enjoyed tinkering in his garage and will be fondly remembered by his family and friends as taking great pride in his manicured lawn. In addition to his wife of 41 years, he is survived by two children, Tammi Reeher and husband, Jody, of Cooperstown and Scott Cotherman and wife, Amy, of Front Royal, Va.; three grandchildren, Tamera Gillen, Kristopher and Ian Cotherman; and his "Grand Dogs," Abby, Sable and Buddy. Also surviving is a sister, Judy Kaness and husband, Russ, of Wyoming; a bother, Dennis Cotherman and wife, Elaine, of Wisconsin; a foster brother, Ron Mitchell of Franklin; and many loving nieces, nephews and extended family members. In addition to his parents, Mr. Cotherman was preceded in death by an "extended son," Michael Kellogg, his beloved dog Sam and his "Grand Dog," Sandy. Box 108, Franklin 16323. James R. Hanna, 78, of Seneca, died at 11:58 p.m. Saturday, June 6, 2009, in the Clarion Hospital. Born June 13, 1930, in Oil City, he was the son of the late Jess and Virginia Proper Hanna. He was married Oct. 9, 1948, in Good Hope Lutheran Church in Oil City, to the former Florence I. Flinchbaugh, who survives. The two celebrated 60 years of marriage together in 2008. Mr. Hanna attended Cranberry High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1948, having been stationed in Anchorage, Alaska. He was employed as a truck driver with the Pennzoil Refinery in Rouseville for more than 30 years, retiring in 1990, and was a member of the American Legion Post 32 in Oil City Mr. Hanna was of the Christian faith. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, enjoying many fishing trips to Canada and shrimping in Florida. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was also very fond of his late dog, 'Sassy.' In addition to his wife, Mr. Hanna is survived by four children, Thomas J. Hanna and wife, Cindy, of Seneca, Jeannie Confer and husband, Gary, of Venus, Butch Hanna and wife, Bonnie, of Oil City and Chris Hanna and wife, Nancy, of Hudsonville, Mich.; thirteen grandchildren, Jason and Trevor Hanna, Susan Burris, Michael Wurster, Jennifer Wiley, Jess Hanna, Heather Vogan, Kevin Hanna, Johnathan Peerboom, Jennifer Longsway, David Peerboom and Emily and Tracy Peerboom; and fifteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters, Judy Carbaugh and husband, Dennis, of Seneca, Bonnie Maynard and husband, Keith, of Scottsdale, Ariz. and Nancy Ewing and husband, Harold, of Pleasantville and a brother, Paul Hanna of Titusville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Hanna. Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Born Aug. 26, 1922, in Meadville, he was a son of the late Lloyd and Hazel Wagner McMahon. He was married April 7, 2009, in Chapmanville, to Helen Ray Altenburg, who survives. Mr. McMahon attended Meadville schools. He entered the U.S. Army on Feb. 17, 1941and was a veteran and POW of World War II. He was held captive from Nov. 8, 1944, until his release at the end of the war on May 8, 1945. He was employed for 33 years at the former Universal Cyclops Specialty Steel Corp. in Titusville and previously worked for American Visco in Meadville. Mr. Aaron attended the Chapmanville Community Church. He was a member of the Bruce Shorts Post No. 5958 VFW in Titusville, a member of the Cleo J. Ross Post No. 368 American Legion in Titusville and a member of the BPO Elks No. 264 in Titusville. He enjoyed hunting and woodworking and in his earlier years took interest in boating, camping and traveling with his family. Mr. Aaron liked vintage airplanes and enjoyed building models. He was also an avid NASCAR fan. After retirement, he became involved with U.S. Army reunions and enjoyed traveling to attend them. He was a member of the 28th Division Heritage Association, the 112th Infantry Regiment Association, the Barbwire Association of Northwestern Pennsylvania and the American Ex POW Inc. In addition to his wife, Mr. Aaron is survived by a son, Michael K. McMahon and wife, Linda, of Beaver Falls; a daughter, Susan R. McMahon of Fitchburg, Mass.; a granddaughter, Megan R. McMahon of Beaver Falls; a sister, Veda McMillen of Largo, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Theda "Snooks" McMahon of Clarion; a brother-in-law, Robert Walton of Saegertown; a close family friend, Terri Phaneuf of Fitchburg, Mass., who was like a daughter; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter "Mickey" McMahon and Carl McMahon and three sisters, Evelyn Walton, Arlene Shay and Dorothy Boughner. Edward Loren Rhodes Sr., 78, of Aurora, Colo., formerly of Acme Street, Rimersburg, passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2009, at the University of Colorado Hospital, following a lingering illness.
