    3. The Derrick, June 5, 2009: Dolores M. Cardy, Orlando. Fla. Frederick C. Cardy, Orlando, Fla. Donald LeRoy Lewis, formerly of Clarion Kenneth P. "MO" Reeves, Oil City Presbyterian Home, formerly of 214 Orchard St., Oil City Peter J. Romanchak, 425 Pacific St., Franklin Phyllis A. Stearns, Sunville Dolores M. Cardy, 89, of Orlando, Fla., passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2009. She was married for 66 years to Frederick Cardy. He preceded her in death on Saturday, May 30, 2009. Mrs. Cardy was one of the first seven women in Florida to join the Women's Army Corps (WACS) of the U.S. Army during World War II. She was a homemaker. She is survived by a son, Fredrick Garry Cardy; a daughter, Joy Phillips; three sisters, Ann, Elizabeth and Jean; 13 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 400 Woodlawn Cemetery Road, Gotha, Fla. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of the funeral home. Frederick C. Cardy, 95, of Orlando, Fla., passed away Saturday, May 30, 2009. He was married to Dolores Kabosky Cardy for 66 years, and she passed away on Wednesday June 3, 2009. Mr. Cardy proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired from Central Orlando Paving. He is survived by a son, Fredrick Garry Cardy; a daughter, Joy Phillips; two brothers, Bob and Russell Cardy; a sister, Margaret; 13 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. Donald LeRoy Lewis, 45, formerly of Clarion, died Tuesday June 2, 2009, in Oklahoma City, Okla. Born July 4, 1963, in Brookville, he was the son William and Nancy Lewis, and they survive. He graduated from Clarion High School and the Clarion County vocational-technical school. He moved in 1985 to Oklahoma, where he met his future wife, Tamaira Sue Artrip. The were married June 11, 1988. Mr. Lewis was a man of many talents and was a skillful hunter and fisherman. He had a smile that touched everyone's heart. He is survived by two children, Braden and Kaylee Lewis; a brother, William Lewis, Jr.; numerous nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; other family members and many friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert "Bobbie" Lewis; and his paternal and maternal grandparents. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Vondell Smith South Colonial Chapel in Oklahoma City. Services to celebrate his life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home. "MO" Reeves, 84, formerly of 214 Orchard St. and a resident of the Oil City Presbyterian Home, died at 2:35 p.m .Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at UPMC Northwest in Seneca. Born March 9, 1925, in Oil City, he was the son of George and Elitha Carroll Reeves. He was married July 4, 1969, to the former Eugenie L. Powell Goodman, who preceded him in death June 22, 2004. He attended Oil City High School until his enlistment in the U.S. Army in 1943, He served during World War II in the 34th Infantry Division (Red Bull), stationed in North Africa, Italy and Germany as a medic, and he participated in The Battle of Monte Cassnio in Italy. He returned to the United States when the war ended in 1945. Upon his return to Oil City he began employment at J & L Steel/Van Huffel Tube, where worked for 34 years until his retirement. He then watered the greens at River Ridge Golf Course on the Bredinsburg Road for many years. Mo was an avid reader and golfer and was a member of local golf leagues and was known as "Down the Middle Mo." He also enjoyed his many trips to Churchill Downs for the Kentucky Derby. He was also a member of numerous local clubs in Oil City including his current membership with the Oil City VFW Post 464/Military Order of the Cootie. He spent many years sharing stories and visiting with his friends at the Villa Italia Restorante in Oil City until his decline in health. Survivors include two daughters, Sandy Mettler and her husband, Charlie, of Aubur, N.Y., and Linda Brown and her husband of Kennerdell; three step-children, Thomas Goodman of Oil City, Timothy Goodman and his wife, Janice, of Douglasville and Kathy McLain and husband, Carl, of Oil City, two sisters, Bea Hosea and her husband, "Tennessee" Tom, of Oil City and Ethel Johnson and her husband, Bob; and a brother, Luke, and his wife, Liz ,of Johnstown He is also survived by grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and a devoted friend and golfer, Barry Stover of Seneca. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Kevin P. Reeves, in 2007. The Morrison Funeral Home in Oil City is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be performed with full military honors by the V.E.T.S. Honor Guard at Calvary Cemetery, at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made to the Oil City Library, the Oil City Presbyterian Home or a charity of one's choice. Peter J. Romanchak, 88, of 425 Pacific St., Franklin, died peacefully at 6:53 a.m. Thursday, June 4, 2009, at UPMC Northwest in Seneca, following a period of declining health. Born March 17, 1921, in Franklin, he was a beloved son of the late Joseph and Sophia O'Polka Romanchak. He attended the Franklin area schools and was a 1938 graduate of Franklin High School. Following his graduation, Mr. Romanchak proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1940 until his retirement from the military in 1966. Upon completion of his military career, he worked from 1966 until his retirement in 1979 at the former Chicago Pneumatic Tool Co. of Franklin. Mr. Romanchak was a member of St. Patrick Church in Franklin. He was also a member for many years of Franklin Moose Lodge 83. Mr. Romanchak was an avid sports enthusiast and is remembered by his family as always watching sporting events on TV. He enjoyed traveling, as his health permitted, particularly enjoying trips out west to Arizona. Mr. Romanchak is survived by a brother, Joseph P. Romanchak and his wife, Barbara, of Franklin; three nieces, Suzanne O'Neil and her husband, Floyd, of Franklin, Sally Scheffer of Oil City and Nancy Weiser and her husband, Jim, of Franklin; a nephew, Joseph A. "Drew" O 'Polka and his wife, Deanna, of Franklin; a sister-in-law, Eileen Romanchak of Shamong, N.J.; and many other loving nieces, nephews and extended family members. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Andrew J. and John G. O'Polka, and Paul W. and Orie M. "Ernie" Romanchak. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Timothy E. Hartle Funeral Home, 1328 Elk St., Franklin. A Christian wake service will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Patrick Church with Msgr. John J. Herbein as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery. Memorial contributions, if desired, may be directed to St. Patrick Church, St. Patrick School or the charity of one's choice. Phyllis A. Stearns, 72, of Sunville, went on to be with her Lord and Savior at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2009, in St. Vincent Health Center in Erie. Born June 14, 1936, in Rockland Township, Venango County, she was the daughter of the late Harold E. and Leona M. Shontz McClintock. Mrs. Stearns attended public schools in Oil City. She was a woman of inspiration to many, and cherished spending quality time with her loving family. She volunteered her time with the Titusville Area Food Bank, and was a member of the Mt. Carmel Tabernacle in Dempseytown, where she sang with the worship team. Mrs. Stearns enjoyed holding Bible study in her home, praying with others, hosting church picnics and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was employed in the custodial department with the Oil City Area School District, retiring in 1999. Prior to that, she had been employed as a private home health-care aide. Surviving are eight children, Sam Stearns and his wife, Colleen, Debra Bickel and her husband, Lewis, Diana Bickel and her husband, John, and Rhonda Seely and her husband, Herbert, all of Sunville, Jeff Stearns and his wife, Sylvia ,of Grand Valley, Timothy Stearns and his wife, Dawn, of Edinboro, Dale Stearns and his wife, Geri Lynn, of Titusville and Mike Stearns and his wife, Marla, of Pittsburgh; 19 grandchildren, Angelina, Isaiah, Kirsten, Jessica, Allan, Jennifer and her fiancé, Travis, John, John Michael and his wife, Rebecca, Nathan and his wife, Stephanie, Eric, Joyce, Jeffrey, Jocelyn, Branden, Joel, Reagan, Riley, Linsey and Daniel; and three great-grandchildren Ethan, Gavin, and Sara. Also surviving are three brothers, Larry E. McClintock and his wife, Helen, of Brooklyn, Conn., Maurice E. McClintock and his wife, Sue, of Cherrytree and Donald E. McClintock and his wife, Elaine, of Oil City; two sisters, Darlene Brown and her husband, Linden, of Townville, S.C., and Peggy L. Seeley and her husband, Donald, of South Carolina;and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Stearns was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Keding. Friends will be received from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday in the Hile-Best Funeral Home, Inc., 2781 Route 257 in Seneca, Cranberry Township. Visitation will also be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday at Mt. Carmel Tabernacle, located at the intersection of Routes 417 and 428 in Dempseytown. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. in the church with the Rev. Dana Lewis officiating.
