Luce, Clintonville Road, formerly of Pittsburgh Marie Philomena Schmader, Muncie, Ind., formerly of Lucinda William R. Braden Sr., 76, of 543 Bowman Road, Franklin, a veteran of the Korean War, died at 9:30 pm Thursday, June 4, 2009, in the Oil City Presbyterian Home. Born Feb. 18, 1933, in Cumberland, W.V., he was a son of Clifford H. and Lottie Mae Renninger Braden. They preceded him in death. He was married Jan. 17, 1953, to the former Beverly J. Baugher, who preceded him in death on Dec. 28, 2006. Mr. Braden served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He worked at Levine Iron and Scrap, then at Joy Manufacturing, retiring after 20 years. He also owned and operated Braden's Country Store in Dempseytown. Mr. Braden enjoyed working on tractors, and he also enjoyed his grandchildren, playing the guitar and his dog, Blue. Surviving are two sons, William R. Braden Jr. of Rouseville and Jerry L. Braden Sr. of Franklin; six grandchildren, Tracy Moore and her husband, Irvin, William R. Braden III, Jerry L. Braden, Jr., Eric M. Braden, Dakota Braden and Troy Braden; and four great-grandchildren, Brittany Braden, Kasie DeMarches, John Thomas DeMarches and David Braden. Also surviving are three sisters, Cora McCall and her husband, Burton, Jean Braden and Mary Bennett and her husband, Charles; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, John Braden, Oliver Braden and an infant brother; and three sisters, Esther May Sopher, Agnes June Gibson and Louella Lucille Sopher. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Morrison Funeral Home in Oil City. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home with the Rev. James Ring officiating. Luce, 70, of Clintonville Road, formerly of Pittsburgh, passed away at home, with her loving family present, at 3:40 a.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2009, after an extended illness. Born Sept. 26, 1938 in Slippery Rock, Butler County, she was the daughter of Alfred Rockburn and Mary Warnick Rockburn. She was married June 7, 1957, to Nathaniel "Ed" Luce, who preceded her in death June 21, 2007. She attended elementary and high school in the Slippery Rock area. Mrs. Luce was a devoted housewife and mother and for many years she enjoyed upholstering furniture for the community and friends. She also enjoyed quilting, flowers, gardening and, most of all her, family and grandchildren. Mrs. Luce was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Forrestville and was a former member of the Christian Mothers of the the church. Survivors include four sons, Mark Luce and his wife, Susan, of Harrisville, Mike Luce and his wife, Beth, of Monroeville, Tim Luce and his wife, Mary, of Trafford and Jeff Luce and his wife, Karen of Willisont, Vt.; a daughter, Tracey Henley and her husband, John, of Norwalk, Ohio; a sister, Barbara Baker of Fla.; a brother, Francis Rockburn and his wife, Dixie, of Harrisville; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Billie Long and Carol Koprivnak. Services will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date. Born April 6, 1919, in Leeper, she was the daughter of J. Howard and Theresa Griebel Foy. She married Cyril J. Schmader on Jan. 5, 1942 in St. Stephen Church of Oil City, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 22, 1986. Mrs. Schmader was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Joseph Church in Lucinda and a past member of St. Joseph Rosary Society. She is survived by three sons, Howard Schmader of Lucinda, John Schmader and his wife, Kathy, of Easton, Kan., and Cyril Schmader and his wife, Jeanne, of Kossuth; and two daughters, Geraldine Greenawalt and her husband, Robert, of Muncie, Ind. and Gretchen Fauzey and her husband, James, of Fairborn, Ohio. She is also survived by a sister, Mildred Schmader and her husband, William, of Leeper; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, James, Joseph and Francis Foy. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday in St. Joseph Church, Lucinda, with the Rev. Gregory Passauer, pastor of St. Mary Church in Crown, as celebrant. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to the American Cancer Society.
