    3. The Derrick, June 1, 2009: Robert L. McDevitt, Main Street, Strattanville Eunice G. Maher, formerly of Oil City and Clarence, N.Y. Helen P. Myers, East Liverpool, Ohio, formerly of the Clarion area Helen L. Snyder, 267 Williamson Road, Templeton, formerly of Oak Ridge George R. Waldren Jr., 1301 Lake Creek Road, Cooperstown Horn memorial service set Robert L. McDevitt, 77, of Main Street, Strattanville, died Sunday morning, May 31, 2009, at Clarion Hospital. Born Sept. 12, 1931, in Concord Township, Butler County, he was the son of Owen J. and Florence Curry McDevitt. He attended Hooker High School in Butler County. A veteran, Mr. McDevitt served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and also did a tour in Germany. He worked for Clarion Builders Supply and retired in the early 1990s after 23 years with Pennsylvania-American Water Co. He attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Clarion. He was a member of the Strattanville Sportsmen's Club and the Strattanville American Legion. He enjoyed hiking, fishing and golfing. He was married Feb. 20, 1952, to the former Grace K. Riensel, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, W. Michael McDevitt and his wife, Arlene, of Abingdon, Md., and Terry W. McDevitt and his wife, Judith, of Shippenville; five grandchildren, Tena McDevitt, Christa McDevitt, Sara McDevitt, Andrew McDevitt and Kyley McDevitt; and two brothers, Paul McDevitt and his wife, Norma, of Karns City and William McDevitt and his wife, Linda, of Salina, Kan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Florence Ball McDevitt; a sister, Betty Ann Smith; a daughter, Tena McDevitt; and a son, Patrick McDevitt. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home in Clarion. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Clarion with the Rev. Monty Sayers, pastor, presiding. Online condolences may be sent at rvburnsfuneralhome.com. Eunice G. Maher, 92, formerly of Oil City and Clarence, N.Y., died on May 29, 2009, in Kansas City, Kan. Born Oct. 2, 1916, in Oil City, she was a daughter of the late Charles Albert and Mary Emma Kaufmann Maher. After completing her education at St. Joseph High School in Oil City, Miss Maher moved with her family to Buffalo, N.Y. They had lived at 814 Cornplanter Ave. in Oil City prior to moving. Miss Maher worked as a legal secretary until her retirement at age 62. She was of the Catholic faith. She is survived by two sisters, Margaret Burns of New Jersey, and Jeanne France of Kansas; a brother, Charles Maher of Arkansas; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was dearly loved and will deeply be missed by all. She was preceded in death by 11 siblings including brother Fred, twin brother Thomas, sisters Anna Marie, Lucille, Emma, Josephine, triplets Ruth, Rita, and Robert, and twins Doris and Dorothy. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday in the gathering space at St. Joseph Church in Oil City. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the church. Myers, 85 of Westfield Road, East Liverpool, Ohio, formerly of the Clarion area, died Saturday, May 30, 2009, at Beaver Medical Center, following a brief illness. Born April 28, 1924, in Reidsburg, she was a daughter of the late Francis Varner and Minnie (Best) Varner. She was a graduate of Clarion High School. She moved to Ohio in 1968. She was a homemaker, and a member of the Glenmoor Presbyterian Church. She was married June 4, 1942, to Ashley E. Myers, who preceded her in death. Helen is survived by four sons, Jerry L. Myers, Roger K. Myers and his wife, Joyce A., Terry B. Myers and his wife, Cassie, and Randy J. Myers and his wife, Kitty E., all of Glenmoor, Ohio; and a sister, Mrs. Richard (Kathryn) McCleary of Clarion. Survivors also include nine grandchildren; Ava Myers, Adrienne Hall, Lisa Christopher, Holly Jackson, Mike Myers, Dana Morris, Justin Myers, Zachary Myers, and Lucas Myers; and 16 great-grandchildren. The family receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the at the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Homes in Calcutta, Ohio. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home, with the Rev. Vel Vais of the Glenmoor Presbyterian Church officiating. Snyder, 82, of 267 Williamson Road, Templeton, formerly of Oak Ridge, died Sunday, May 31, 2009, at Kittanning Care Center. Born Nov. 17, 1926, in Oak Ridge, she was a daughter of Joseph Edward Fritz and Elva V. (Hoch) Fritz. Mrs. Snyder was a member of the Oak Ridge United Methodist Church. She was married Jan. 26, 1948, to Wendell O. "Dick" Snyder, who preceded her in death Dec. 14, 1988. Surviving are two sons and their wives, Richard "Poog" and Carol Snyder of Templeton and Gary "Fud" and Roxanne Snyder of Oak Ridge; four grandchildren, Jamie Snyder, Melissa Rupp, Julie Hagan and Jenny Sturgeon; and five great-grandchildren, Dylan Rupp, Dawson Rupp, Allyn Hagan, Hadley Hagan and Kadin Sturgeon. Survivors also include a sister, Norma Shaffer of New Bethlehem; and a brother, Gale Fritz of New Kensington. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Myron Fritz and Neal Fritz; two sisters, Verna Fritz and Clair Hoffman; and a grandson, Alan Snyder. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Alcorn Funeral Home in Hawthorn. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with pastor Jodie Smith of the Redbank Valley United Methodist Ministry officiating. Interment will be at Mount Zion Cemetery, Mahoning Township, Armstrong County. George R. Waldren Jr., 83, of 1301 Lake Creek Road, Cooperstown, died at 10:35 a.m. Friday, May 29, 2009, at UPMC Northwest, Seneca. Born June 14, 1925, in Olean, N.Y., he was the son of the late George R. Waldren Sr. and Laura M. Fanning. A veteran of World War II, Mr. Waldren served with the U.S. Army in the European Theater of Operations. He earned the Bronze Star Medal for valor for going through the Seigfried line. He also earned the coveted Soldier's Medal of Ludwigslust, Germany, when a German ammunition dump caught fire. Mr. Waldren was a superintendent for Dunn Steel in Buffalo, N.Y. He attended the Cooperstown Evangelistic Tabernacle. He was a life member of the Franklin VFW Jesse Greer Post No. 1835 and and was a life member of the American Legion Post No. 808 in Belmont, N.Y. He was first married to the former Phyllis B. Crosson, who preceded him in death Dec. 11, 2000. He was later married on Sept. 29, 2001, to the former Laura V. Bennett, who survives. Survivors also include three children, Dawn Waldren of Belmont, N.Y., Linda Haskell of Belmont, N.Y., and Michael L. Waldren and his wife, Carolyn, of Yukon, Okla,; several grandchildren; and too many great-grandchildren to name. In addition to his parents and first wife, Mr. Waldren was preceded in death by a brother, William M. Waldren; and two sisters, Gladys Farris and Betty Jones. There will be no visitation. Interment will be in Cooperstown Cemetery. The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Cooperstown Evangelistic Tabernacle, P.O. Box 176, Cooperstown, 16317. Horn memorial service set A memorial service to celebrate the life of Debbie K. Horn will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at Horn's Collision Repair Service, 883 Horn Road, Oil City. Horn, 54, of Belmar Acres, Franklin, died Thursday, March 5, 2009, after a courageous battle with cancer.
