    3. The Derrick, June 13, 2009: Everett Biery Davis, Henrico, Va., Franklin native Dean D. King, Washington Township, Hilliards Leon J. "Sam: Wechuck, 103 Poplar St., Franklin Getting it right -M. Rita McCauley Banner: Lillie E. "Sally" Holmes Everett Biery Davis, 78, of Henrico, Va., passed away Wednesday, June 10, 2009. Born in Franklin, he was the son of Stuart and Lela Biery Rivers. He graduated in 1947 from James Monroe High School in Fredericksburg, Va., and from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1951. He was a big supporter of the Virginia Tech Hokie Club. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Davis was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Fredericksburg, Va., for more than 50 years. He retired from the Commonwealth of Virginia in 1989 after 31 years of service with the Department of Transportation. Mr. Davis is survived by his dear wife, Marie J. Davis; three children, Betty Davis Anderson and her husband, Walter, of Birmingham, Ala., Ann Lee Davis and her husband, Charles Martin, of Richmond, Va., and E. Biery Davis Jr. and his wife, Virginia, of Barboursville, Va.; and three grandchildren, E. Devon Jones, Elizabeth Jones and Marcelia Davis. A memorial service will be held at noon Sunday at Laurel Presbyterian Church, Glen Allen, Va. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Appomattox (PE) Presbyterian Church Cemetery of Farmville, Va. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Laurel Presbyterian Church, the Virginia Tech Hokie Club or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The Bliley Funeral Home in Richmond, Va., is in charge of arrangements. Dean D. King, 70, of Washington Township, Hilliards, passed away at 10:30 p.m. Thursday, June 11, 2009, at his residence following an extended illness. He was the husband of the former Ellen Graham, formerly of Parker. Leon J. "Sam" Wechuck, 74, of 103 Poplar St., Franklin, died peacefully at 4:05 p.m. Friday, June 5, 2009, in UPMC Presbyterian Pittsburgh, surrounded by his loving family. Born June 10, 1934, in Latrobe, he was a beloved son of the late Leon J. and Catherine Mazon Wechuck Sr. He was married July 5, 1969, to the former Annette M. Balaban, who survives. Mr. Wechuck attended the Latrobe area schools and graduated from Latrobe High School in 1952. Following his high school graduation, Mr. Wechuck proudly served his country as an airman first class in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War era. He was honorably discharged in 1962 and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal for his service. Upon the completion of his military career, Mr. Wechuck attended the University of Pittsburgh and graduated with a degree in metallurgical engineering. He was employed as a metallurgical engineer for 28 years at Joy Manufacturing Co. in Franklin. Mr. Wechuck was an active and faithful member of St. Patrick Church in Franklin where he served as an usher and sang with the funeral choir of the parish. He was an active member of Knights of Columbus Council 1020 of Franklin and the Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Wechuck was a member of Franklin Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. 110, the A.S.M. Society of Professional Engineers, the VFW and the American Legion. As his health permitted, he was an avid sports fan and enjoyed his times golfing with his friends as a member of the senior golf league at Sleepy Hollow Golf Club, traveling and puttering around his home. His greatest joy was spending quality time with his family, most especially his grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Mr. Wechuck is survived by two children, Jennifer Weismantle and her husband, Wayne, of Eighty Four and James Wechuck and his wife, Jennifer, of Glenshaw; and six grandchildren, Bryan, Nolan and Lauren Wechuck and Ethan, Quintin and Ava Weismantle. He is also survived by three sisters, Josephine Garland of High Springs, Fla., Betty Lyle of Union City and Patricia McDermott and her husband, William, of Port Richey, Fla.; a brother, Joseph Kabala and his wife, Helen, of Youngstown, Pa.; and many loving nieces, nephews and extended family members. In addition to his parents, Mr. Wechuck was preceded in death by two brothers, Anthony and Stanley Kabala. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Timothy E. Hartle Funeral Home, 1328 Elk St., Franklin. A Christian wake service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick Church in Franklin with Monsignor John J. Herbein, St. Patrick pastor, as celebrant. Full military burial rites will be accorded by the VETS Honor Guard of Franklin following the Mass. Memorial contributions may be directed toward St. Patrick Community Food Pantry or St. Patrick School. Getting it right -M. Rita McCauley Banner: M. Rita McCauley Banner, 74, of Marble, passed away Monday, June 8, 2009, at UPMC Passavant in Pittsburgh. Her survivors include a brother, Paul McCauley and his wife, Diane, of Houston Texas; brother-in-law Joseph Banner, sister-in-law Mary Louise Banner, brother-in-law Gerald Bauer, sister-in-law Cathy Bell, sister-in-law Betty Spence, sister-in-law Geraldine McCauley and brother-in-law Jack Miller. Mrs. Banner was preceded in death by her parents and husband as well as brothers Lee "Dick" McCauley, Clifford McCauley, Cletus McCauley, Jim McCauley and Floyd McCauley. Lillie E. "Sally" Holmes: Lillie E. "Sally" Holmes, 64, of 4 Edgewood Drive, Oil City, died Wednesday, June 10 at her residence after a short illness. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today in Cochranton Presbyterian Church with Harvey Boal officiating.
