    3. The Derrick, January 8, 2009: Clarence A. "Ike" Bell, Enterprise Road, Titusville Donald L. Crawford, Rockmart, Ga., formerly of Titusville Edna M. Elder, 522 Elder Road, Sligo Donald M. Raymond, 5 Mill St., Sandy Lake Getting it right - Ruth A. Davis Clarence A. "Ike" Bell, 86, of Enterprise Road, Titusville, died peacefully at 2:15 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009, at the Golden Living Center in Titusville, where he had been a resident since April 21, 2008. Born Dec. 30, 1922, in Knox, he was a son of the late John and Alberta Bell. He attended Shippenville schools. Mr. Bell was married Sept. 15, 1945, in Shippenville, by Justice Mary Paige Hood to the former Lois Bellis, who survives. Mr. Bell was a veteran of World War II, having been inducted into the U.S. Army on Feb. 9, 1943, in New Cumberland. Mr. Bell served in North Africa and Italy with the 88th Blue Devil Infantry. He was awarded the Purple Heart Medal with cluster, Bronze Star Medal, EAME Theatre Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Bell was honorably discharged Oct. 27, 1945, at Camp Gruber, Okla., with the rank of staff sergeant. He worked for his father-in-law, Herbert Bellis, and later for his brother-in-law, John Bellis, in the oil fields until his retirement. Mr. Bell enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. In addition to his wife, Mr. Bell is survived by one son, David Bell and his wife, Judy, of Titusville; one grandson, Craig Bell of Titusville; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Bell was preceded in death by a son who died at birth; two sisters, Pearl and Ruth; and one brother, John. Relatives and friends will be received from 2 to 3 p.m. Friday at the Leo N. Hennes Funeral Home Inc. 203 E. Main Street, Titusville. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Jerry Drake, pastor of Faith Community Church of Enterprise, officiating. Crawford, 78, of 2460 Eastern Ave., Rockmart, Ga., where he resided with his daughter, Marla Jean Crawford Hert, died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008, at Cobb County Memorial Hospital in Georgia after a long illness. Born Feb. 4, 1930, in Titusville, he was the son of Floyd H. and Elizabeth M. Crawford. Mr. Crawford was married April 19, 1969, in Franklin, to the former Nancy Runninger, who survives. He went to schools in Titusville Area School District. Mr. Crawford served in the Marine Corps from 1951 to 1953, and he served in the Korean War. He was self-employed and was part owner of Crawford Sand and Gravel in Titusville. Mr. Crawford enjoyed hunting and riding motorcycles. He was a lifetime member of the Bruce Shorts VFW Post of Titusville. Mr. Crawford is survived by his loving wife, Nancy, of Rockmart, Ga.; one daughter, Marla Jean Hert and her husband, Walter Hert Jr., of Rockmart, Ga.; three grandchildren, Ashley, Jesse and Marlana, all of whom he loved dearly; one sister, Marjorie Shaffer; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Crawford was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Floyd Crawford Jr.; and one niece, Carol Shaffer. A memorial service that will be announced at a later date will be held in Titusville at the convenience of the family. The Alvis Miller and Son Funeral Home of Rockmart, Ga., is handling arrangements. Edna M. Elder, 98, 522 Elder Rd., Sligo, died at 3 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009, in the Clarview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center where she had resided for the past two years. Born Sept. 6, 1910, in Sligo, she was a daughter of Clinton and Iva Snow Eshbaugh. Mrs. Elder was a 1928 graduate of Sligo High School. She was married Nov. 22, 1930, to Sam J. Elder who preceded her in death on March 15, 1985. Mrs. Elder was a homemaker. She was a member of the Curllsville United Methodist Church. She enjoyed tanning, cooking and doing crossword puzzles. Mrs. Elder is survived by two daughters, Eleanor Sayers of Clarion and Joan Hughes and her husband, John, of Leechburg; two sons, the Rev. Jack E. Elder and his wife, Nada Lee, of Edinboro and Connell "Doc" Elder and his fiancé, Donna LaVan, of Sligo; 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 3 step-grandchildren. She is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Pat Elder, of Rimersburg and a son-in-law, John Ochs, of Clarion. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Elder was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet K. Ochs, a son, William Elder, and a son-in-law, Brinton Sayers. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Varner Funeral Home in Sligo. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at funeral home with the Rev. Kate Reitz, pastor of the Curllsville United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in the Grandview Cemetery in Sligo. The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Curllsville United Methodist Church. Donald M. Raymond, 78, of 5 Mill St., Sandy Lake, passed away unexpectedly at 5:29 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009, at his home of natural causes. Born March 12, 1930, in Franklin, he was a son of Maurice P. and Sylvia L. Dilley Raymond. He was a 1949 graduate of Sandy Lake High School. Mr. Raymond was married April 14, 1954, to the former Marjorie A. Ackerman, who survives at home. In his early years Mr. Raymond worked as a meat cutter for Mowry & McKean Packing of Sandy Lake and delivered milk for the Vengold Dairy of Sandy Lake. He retired in 1992 as the owner/operator of Sandy Lake Mills where he spent 37 years. It is now owned and operated by son Brian as the fourth-generation proprietor. He was a member of the Sandy Lake Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon. Mr. Raymond was very community oriented and enjoyed visiting with others. He was a longtime member of the Sandy Lake Rotary Club where he received the Paul Harris Fellowship Award for outstanding service. He was a volunteer driver for Lakeview Area Meals on Wheels. Mr. Raymond was a 32nd degree member of Lake Lodge #434, F. & A.M. of Sandy Lake, Scottish Rites, New Castle Consistory and Zem Zem Shrine, Erie. He was a member of I.O.O.F. #573 of Sandy Lake. He was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed watching sporting events on television. In addition to his wife, Mr. Raymond is survived by a son, Brian J. Raymond and his companion, Lisa McGinnis, of Sandy Lake; two grandchildren, Susan R. Sheidy and her husband, Dion, of Brentwood, Tenn., and Adam A. Raymond and his wife, Stephanie, of Sandy Lake; four great-grandchildren, Lily and Luke Sheidy and Emmy and Addison Raymond; and two step-great-grandchildren, Madison and MacKenzie Sheidy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Raymond was preceded in death by a brother, Frances Raymond. Family and friends may call form 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Scott A. Black Funeral Home, 99 Franklin St., Stoneboro, with a Masonic service at 9 p.m. in the funeral home. Funeral and committal services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Sandy Lake Presbyterian Church, 3461 Sandy Lake-New Lebanon Road, Sandy Lake, with the Rev. Galen Joe MacDonald, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Sandy Lake Township. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Sandy Lake Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 185, Sandy Lake, 16145. The Scott A. Black Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Getting it right - Ruth A. Davis Ruth A. Davis, 82, formerly of 3 Kirkwood Ave., Oil City, died at 11:50 p.m. Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, at the Presbyterian Home in Oil City. Among Mrs. Davis' survivors was a great-granddaughter, Alyssa Rae Weaver.
