The Derrick, January 19, 2009: Willis Clyde Dolby, Miola Road, Clarion M. Louise Frawley, Bissell Avenue, Oil City, formerly of Towne Towers Donald D. Spencer, North 13th Street, Franklin James Glenn Stants, Sligo Willis Clyde Dolby, 80, of Miola Road, Clarion, died at 12:45 a.m. Sunday morning, Jan. 18, 2009, at the Golden LivingCenter in Shippenville, where he had been a resident for the past several years He was the oldest and last surviving member of his immediate family Born May 5, 1928, in Helen Furnace, Clarion County, he was a son of the late Lewis and Anna Shrum Dolby. He was married July 17, 1954, to Josephine Drayer and they celebrated their 40th anniversary in July 1994. She preceded him in death on March 13, 1995. Mr. Dolby was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, serving from 1946 to 1948. He was stationed in Europe and also Washington D.C., where he worked funerals at the Arlington National Cemetery. He worked as a laborer for the union labor local 952 until his retirement in 1990 and was a former tax assessor for Highland Township. He was a member of the Helen Furnace United Methodist Church and belonged to the American Legion Post #66 in Clarion. Mr. Dolby farmed his father's homestead for many years and enjoyed gardening, cooking and canning his own foods. He was an avid card player and loved to hunt, fish and have cookouts with his family. His theory was if it wasn't a Ford, it wasn't a vehicle. He is survived by a son, Douglas E. Dolby and wife, R. Jean, of Leeper; three daughters, Darlene Heasley and husband, Ed, of Leeper, Diane Call of Clarion and Denise Shufesky of Marienville and husband, Dave, stationed in Iraq; and eight grandchildren, Matthew Heasley and wife, Yolanda, of Leeper, Melissa Austen and husband, Scott, of Clarion, Amanda Call and friend, Jake Snyder, of Clarion, Chris Call and friend, Erica Keck, of Clarion, Beth Baker and husband, Josh, of Leeper, Rob Sorrell and friend, Tosha Shumate, of Leeper, Amanda Sorrell and friend, Kyle Davidson, of Garland and Adam Sorrell, serving with the army in Fort Benning, Ga. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, Kaoz and Harmony Baker of Leeper, Matthew Graham of Rocky Grove, Brittany Graham, Austin Stelene, Cody Stelene and Joel R. Sorrell III, all of Leeper; a brother-in-law, Ralph Hedrick of Clarion; a sister-in-law, Susan Dolby of Dubois; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Dolby was preceded in death by two brothers, Melvin Dolby and John Dolby; two sisters, Joan Hedrick and Shirley Schmader; and an infant sister, Diana Dolby. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home in Clarion, Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post #66 at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Mark Hurst, pastor for the Helen Furnace United Methodist Church, officiating. Lousie Frawley, 84, formerly of Towne Towers and 609 Bissell Avenue, Oil City, passed away quietly at 1:15 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009, at the Golden LivingCenter in Oil City. Spencer, 61, a resident of 103 North 13th St., Franklin, died at 3:28 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16, 2009, at UPMC Northwest Medical Center. Born Dec. 5, 1947, he was a son of Donald A. Spencer and Elizabeth F. Smith. Mr. Spencer was a member of the U.S. Army, where he served as a military policeman during the Vietnam War. He worked as an RSA for Polk Center and was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church. Mr. Spencer enjoyed watching sports. He is survived by his father, Donald A. Spencer of Franklin; a daughter, Sabrina Maxwell of Oil City; a brother, David S. Spencer and wife, Karen, of Milan, Ohio; and a grandchild. He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth F. Smith; a sister, Carolyn (Lynn) J. Spencer; and a son, Scott Spencer. There will be no visitation. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today in the Robert W. Gardinier Funeral Home with the Rev. Linda Deeter, pastor at The Caring Place in Franklin, officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. James Glenn Stants, 65, of Sligo, passed away Saturday morning, Jan. 17, 2009, at Butler Memorial Hospital, following a lengthy illness. Born Aug. 9, 1943, in Brookville, he was a son of the late James Clifford and Violet Best Stants. He was a graduate of Keystone High School in Knox. Mr. Stants was married May 9, 1970, to Deloris Hudson Stants, who survives. He began a lifelong occupation as a truck driver at the age of 18. In the early 1990s, he was presented the Million-Miler award for driving more than 1 million accident-free miles. He retired from his last employer, Triangle Gas Co. of Butler, in August 2008 due to ill health. Mr. Stants was a member of the Callensburg-Licking Township Volunteer Fire Department and was active in assisting with the annual ATV rides to earn money for the department. He was an avid ATV rider. He and his his wife were members of the ATV Traction Club - Venango Chapter. Mr. Stants was Protestant by faith. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, James Lonnie "Jim" Stants and his special friend, Amy Vincent and her two children, of Parker; a grandson, James Edward Justin Stants of Parker; and a granddaughter, Amanda Brooke Stants of Parker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Tammy Sue Stants, who passed away accidentally on Dec. 16, 1981. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the H. Jack Buzard Funeral Home Inc., Wayne St. in Parker. Funeral and committal services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Dan Myers, a United Methodist minister, officiating. Interment will be in the Cedarview Memorial Park near Strattenville.
