Beers, 78, of Fair Haven Road, Strattanville, passed away early Friday morning, Jan. 9, 2009, at UPMC Northwest in Seneca. Born July 8, 1930, in Franklin, he was the son of Eugene F. Bunny Beers, who preceded him in death, and Margaret Peg Bright Beers, 103, of Clarview in Sligo. Mr. Beers served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was married Feb. 25, 1972, to Delores E Burton, who survives. Mr. Beers worked for the former L & R Decorating in Clarion for 12 years and later retired from Owens Illinois Glass Plant after 28 years. He was a member of Alpha Assembly of God Church in Clarion. He was also a member of the Clarion Eagles and the Quarter Century Club. Mr. Beers enjoyed watching sports, hunting, fishing, golf, bowling, metal detecting and spending time with his family. In addition to his mother and wife, Mr. Beers is survived by nine children, Carol Clinger and her husband, Charles, of Limestone, Denise Clinger and her husband, Carson, of Strattanville, Richard McDougle of Helen Furnace, Kathy McDougle of Clarion, Kathy Mitchel and her husband, Barry, of Hawthorn; Shirley Allio and her husband, Robert, of Clarion, Tammy Munshower of Clarion, Bill Munshower of Arnold and Deloris Jean Dittman and her husband, Evan, of New Bethlehem. Also surviving are three sisters, Georgia Kay Price of Miola, Margaret Williams and her husband, Neal, of Meadville, and Barbara Alba of Florida; 19 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. In addition to his father, Mr. Beers was preceded in death by two daughters, Marjorie Dithrich and Sherry Deemer. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home in Clarion. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home with the Rev. David Selleck officiating. Margaret Evanek Colyvas, 92, of Walker Farm Road, Huey, formerly of Washington, D.C., passed away at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009, in Clarion Hospital, following a brief illness. Born Aug. 15, 1916, in Huey, she was a daughter of Joseph Charles Evanek and Susan Sophia Charney Evanek. Mrs. Colyvas lived for many years in Washington, where she worked for Sears Roebuck & Co. as a sales clerk in the interior decorating department. During this time she raised her only child and was active in St. Teresa Roman Catholic Church and School. She was twice president of the school's mother's club during her daughter's attendance there. In her spare time, Mrs. Colyvas enjoyed collecting antiques and visiting small towns on the Eastern shore of Maryland. Mrs. Colyvas is survived by one daughter, Marella M. Colyvas of Boulder, Colo.; one brother, George Evanek of Rimersburg; two sisters, Ella Evanek Brooks of Lucinda and Madeline M. Evanek of Suitland, Md.; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Mrs. Colyvas returned to live in Rimersburg in 2000 to care for her brother, Joseph P. Evanek, who preceded her in death in 2002. Also preceding her in death were another brother, John Evanek of Baton Rouge, La., in 2007; one sister, Mary Evanek Bartley ,in 1986; her mother in 1984 and her father in 1943. A private family service will be held at the Richard D. Hillis Funeral Home in Rimersburg with the Rev.William M. Kuba officiating. Interment will be in St. Eusebius Cemetery in East Brady. Barbara R. Connolly, 78, of Wilmington, N.C., passed away Wednesday Jan. 7, 2009, after a sudden illness. Born Dec. 15, 1930, in Harrisville, Butler County, she was the daughter of Howard W. Shull and Florence R. Sterrett Shull. She was married Sept. 6, 1987, to James Connolly, who preceded her in death on Sept. 26, 1992. Mrs. Connolly was a graduate of North East High School in North East. Mrs. Connolly had worked as a ticketing agent for several major airlines in New York City, San Francisco and Puerto Rico for a number of years. She had also traveled extensively throughout the world. She was a member of the Cape Fear Presbyterian Church in Wilmington, N.C. Mrs. Connolly is survived by two brothers, Duane Shull and his wife, Alice, of New Smyrna Beach, Fla. and Kenneth Shull and his wife, Meg, of Seneca, S.C.; six nieces and nephews and several Services will be held at the convenience of the family, with interment to follow at Mt. Eidson, 77, of 382 Second St., Pleasantville, died at 1:20 a.m. Friday, Jan. 9, 2009, in Titusville Area Hospital. Born Dec. 28, 1931, in Olean, N.Y., she was the daughter of Francis and Agnes Eaton Woodley. She was married April 14, 1951, in Bradford, to Raymond L. Eidson, who survives. Mrs. Eidson was a 1949 graduate of Bradford Area High School. She was employed at Dresser Manufacturing Co. in Bradford as an inventory analyst for 20 years until her retirement in 1975. Mrs. Eidson was a member of Pleasantville United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She was a board member with the Pleasantville Salvation Army unit where she served for 15 years as unit secretary. Mrs. Eidson was a member of the Gransan Group and enjoyed the outdoors and camping. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Eidson is survived by one son, David Eidson and his wife, Susan, of Tempe, Ariz.; one daughter, Valerie Johnson and her husband, Gene, of Martinsburg, W.Va.; four grandchildren, Timothy and Philip Johnson and Scott and Andy Eidson; one great-granddaughter, Jordan Johnson; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Eidson was preceded in death by two brothers, William Woodley and Robert Woodley. The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. today at Pleasantville United Methodist Church. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today in the church with the Rev. Donald Russell, pastor, and the Rev. Peter DeGerland, a retired minister, officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Alton Memorial Cemetery. Etzel, 87, of 349 Oak Road, Oil City, died Friday morning, Jan. 9, 2009, in UPMC Northwest, following a brief illness. Born July 29, 1921, in Elmo, Clarion County, he was the son of John Alfred and Anna Kropp Etzel. He was a 1938 graduate of Ashland High School in Kossuth. Mr. Etzel earned an undergraduate degree from Clarion State Teachers College and a master's degree from Allegheny College. He also completed graduate studies at Penn State University, the University of Florida and the University of California at Berkeley. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as an instructor and pilot of B-24s and B-29s. Mr. Etzel was chairman of the science department and a physics teacher at Oil City High School, retiring in 1983. He served for several years as coach of the varsity golf team. He enjoyed hunting, golfing and fishing and was a skilled carpenter. His teaching went beyond the classroom and he offered his expertise to young and old people on topics ranging from trout fishing to cabinet-making. For a number of years he was the coordinator and teacher for the Scien-Trific exhibits and programs at the Venango Museum in Oil City. He adored his family, especially his four grandchildren. Mr. Etzel was a longtime member of Grace United Methodist Church in Oil City. He was married in 1943 in Clinton, S.C., to the former Dolores Dolby of Knox, and she survives. Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, James A. Etzel and his wife, Judith, of Oil City; four grandchildren, Clinton Woofter and his wife, Michelyn, of Scottsdale, Ariz., Rachel Kopper and her husband, Mark, of Pittsburgh, Hannah Rodocker and her husband, Greg, of Evansville, Ind., and Joshua A. Etzel and his wife, Nancy Gabriela Etzel, of Naperville, Ill.; and nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Jeanne Stover of West Seneca, N.Y., and Patricia Neely of Knox; a brother, Gerald Etzel of Kingsport, Tenn.; and a son-in-law, William Woofter II of Louisville, Ky. Preceding him in death in addition to his parents were his daughter, Susan Woofter, who died in 2006; two brothers, Dana Etzel and George Etzel; and two sisters, Evelyn Moody and Grace Snyder. Dennis Leigh McClune, 44, of Spring Hill, Tenn., formerly of Clarion, passed away Wednesday Jan. 7, 2009, at Southern Hills Medical Center in Tennessee. Born Feb. 12, 1964, in Clarion, he was the son of Donald and Carolyn Kaufman McClune of Clarion. He was a 1982 graduate of Clarion Area High School and graduated in 1986 from Clarion University with a business degree. He was married Oct. 6, 2002, to Melissa Carlisle, who survives in Spring Hill, Tenn. Mr. McClune worked for Primus Financial in Franklin, Tenn. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. McClune is survived by a brother, Donald McClune Jr. and his wife, Rebecca, and nieces and nephews Hannah, Kylan+ and Regan; all of St. Augustine, Fla. Ralph Louis "Lou" Pritchard, 85, of 191 Roseland Ave., Seneca, passed away, after a period of failing health, at 7:55 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009, at UPMC Northwest in Seneca. Born March 4, 1923, in Oil City, he was the son of Orrin and Dorothy Snyder Pritchard. He was married June 18, 1949, to the former Rosalie "Tootie" Repman Pritchard, who preceded him in death May 18, 2007. He was a member of St. Stephen Church in Oil City. Mr. Pritchard worked for the Erie Canteen Vending Machine Service for 30 years. He was an avid volunteer to many. He joined Seneca Volunteer Fire Department in 1963, and he was the fire chief from 1970 to 1984 and an assistant chief before that. Mr. Pritchard belonged to the Fire Chiefs Association and the Crawford-Venango County Fire School in Cambridge Springs. He was a Cranberry Township supervisor for 18 years, a past member of the board of directors for Keystone Tall Tree Girl Scout Council and an honorary member of Boy Scout Troop 111. Mr. Pritchard was a member of the Cranberry Area Lions Club, and he received the Melvin Jones Award, the Lions Club's highest honor. Mr. Pritchard was also a member of the Oil City Knights of Columbus and the Fourth Degree Assembly of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post 32 in Oil City and the VFW Veterans Coalition. He was a past member of the BPO Elks, the Cranberry Mall AM Walkers and the Cranberry Senior Citizens Group. Mr. Pritchard liked the outdoors and enjoyed sitting on his back porch. He and his family camped on Kibbee's Island near Tionesta for 20 years. Mr. Pritchard is survived by two daughters, Roberta Kostek and her husband, James, of Oil City,and Katherine Gibson and her husband, Robert, of Franklin; three grandchildren, Alison Close and her husband, Philip, of Franklin, Aaron Zacherl and his wife, Clarisa, of Waterford, and Benjamin Kostek of Oil City; a step-grandson, Eric Weber and his wife, Angie, of Franklin; four great-grandchildren, Brion Zacherl, Gunnar Close, Darian Zacherl and Paris Close; and two step-great-grandchildren, Hannah and Gavin Weber. Mr. Pritchard also is survived by two sisters, Mary Persing of Dempseytown and Anna Mae Speer and her husband, Roscoe, of Dempseytown; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Pritchard was preceded in death by one brother, Wayne Pritchard and his wife, Joyce; a son-in-law, Verle Zacherl; and a brother-in-law, Rexford Persing.
