Guntrum, 71, of Lillian Lane, Rimersburg, Toby Township, Clarion County, passed away at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2009, at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital in Kittanning following a brief illness. Born April 16, 1937, in Perry Township, Clarion County, she was a daughter of the late Samuel R. Weckerly and Dorothy E. Whitmore Weckerly. Mrs. Guntrum was affiliated with Carwick Wesleyan Church and had graduated from Parker High School, Class of 1955. She was married May 11, 1955, in Petrolia to Bruce Joseph Guntrum, who preceded her in death Feb. 24, 1973. Mrs. Guntrum enjoyed playing bingo and visiting the casinos at Salamanca, N.Y., Mountaineer and Wheeling Island. Mrs. Guntrum is survived by her second husband, Robert "Joe" Wilkinson of Rimersburg; five daughters, Karen Chapman and her husband, Daniel, of LaGrange, Ohio, Lori Myers and her husband, Dennis "Doc," of Rimersburg, Janet Daugherty and her husband, Robert "Doc," of Rimersburg, Vicki Kriebel and her husband, Patrick, of Rimersburg, and Kelly Mong and her husband, David, of Russell; 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 11 step-grandchildren. She is also survived by two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Phyllis Agnello of Knox and Mrs. Carole Guntrum of Rimersburg; two brothers, Joseph Weckerly and his wife, Mary, of Shippenville, and Samuel H. Weckerly and his wife, Peg, of Parker; three sisters, Mrs. Helen Shoup of West Freedom, Mrs. Norma Conner and her husband, Carl, of New Bethlehem, and Mrs. Ruth Messenger and her husband, Tim, of Parker; and two stepdaughters, Darlene Townsend and her husband, Mike, of Rimersburg, and Jamie Springer and her husband, Fred, of Sarver. In addition to her parents and first husband, Mrs. Guntrum was preceded in death by three sons, Randall Bruce Guntrum, Clinton Guntrum and Andrew Bruce Guntrum; one brother, Daryl Weckerly; one sister, Mrs. Ethel Callender; two grandsons, one great-granddaughter and one great-grandson. Daniel J. Hannah, 50, of Texas, formerly of Brookville, passed away Thursday, Jan. 1, 2009. Mr. Hannah was born Feb. 27, 1958, in Brookville. Mr. Hannah is survived by his loving wife, Genia Hannah; three children, Cory Kahle, Laura O'Quin and her husband, Christopher, and Shaun Hannah and his wife, Jessica; one granddaughter, Ava Natalie Fawcett; his mother, Anna Hannah; three sisters, one brother, numerous friends, the best neighbors and Naval Unit 1BV-15. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Klein Funeral Home, Tomball, Texas. Evelyn Lundberg Plyler, 94, a guest at Jefferson Manor and formerly of Gordon Way and White Street, Brookville, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, at Jefferson Manor. Born Dec. 27, 1914, in Lanes Mills, she was the daughter of Herman Lundberg and Hulda Johnson Lundberg. She was married May 11, 1936, in Brookville to John Bellis Plyler, who preceded her in death Feb. 5, 1953. Mrs. Plyler was a graduate of Brookville Area High School, Class of 1933. She was a member of Brookville Presbyterian Church for more than 60 years. Mrs. Plyler is survived by two daughters, Patricia Miller and her husband, George, of Brookville, and Paula Palmer and her husband, Paul, of Eagan, Minn.; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Plyler Cook of Manassas, Va., and Ruth Inman Plyler of Franklin, N.C.; three grandchildren, Joni Lynn Kerr, George Jeffrey Miller and Jill Ann Zemba; and four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Plyler is the last surviving member of her immediate family. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Plyler was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters. Russell, 77, of Christie Hill Road (Plumer), Oil City, passed away peacefully at 11:05 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008, in the home he built with his own hands. Mr Russell was born July 31, 1931, in Plumer, the son of the late John A Russell and Effie Haupt Russell. He graduated from Oil City High School and also attended Clarion State College. Mr. Russell was a Korean War Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from Nov. 20, 1952, to Nov. 19, 1954. He was a member of Plumer Presbyterian Church. Mr. Russell was married June 22, 1957, in Winchester, Va., where he eloped with the former Billie Waitz of Rynd Farm. She preceded him in death Nov. 18, 2002. Mr. Russell worked as a fireman on the Pennsylvania Railroad for a number of years, then finished his career with 25 years of service at Cyclops, later Armco Steel, in Titusville. Mr. Russell and his wife traveled to Europe, Hawaii and the Bahamas with cousins Donna and Joe Goodman, now of Melbourne, Fla. He enjoyed boxing, auto racing and attending local softball games. He also enjoyed hunting with his son and Matt Sopher, traveling to Florida each winter, and dinners with his friend Carol McClellan of Rouseville. Most of all he loved the time he had with his granddaughter Emily. He was an independent, self-reliant man with a touch of stubbornness who enjoyed doing projects for family and friends. Mr. Russell is survived by a daughter, Cindy Russell and her husband, Dave Hunt, of Hollywood, Fla.; a son, John and his wife, Angelique, of Plumer; and a granddaughter, Emily, of Plumer. He is also survived by two sisters, June Pearson of Plumer and Joyce Matha of Indian Lake; and three nieces, Dawn Matha Addelman, Kim Pearson and Lisa Pearson Ratliff. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Russell was preceded in death by an infant sister and a nephew, Brad Matha. The family will share memories and celebrate his life at an open house at his home from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Private committal services will be held in Plumer Cemetery at the convenience of the family. "Sonny" Shaw, 70, of 2438 Rocky Grove Ave., Franklin, died at 1:50 a.m. Friday, Jan. 2, 2009, at UPMC Northwest in Seneca. Born Jan. 25, 1938, in Scrubgrass Township, he was the son of Norman C. Shaw and Francis Evelyn Keith. Mr. Shaw was employed as a machinist for CPT from 1964 to 1980, he was employed at Hodge Foundry Inc. from Aug. 1, 1988, to Aug. 1, 2003, and he also worked at Franklin Cemetery. He was married Dec. 8, 1957, to the former Barbara T. Harry, who survives. Mr. Shaw was a veteran of the U.S. Army during peacetime. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and country music. In addition to his wife, Mr. Shaw is survived by six sisters, Elsie Redmound and her husband, Walter, of Transfer, Mary Whitman of Franklin, June Carter of Franklin, Dorothy Frantz and her husband, Samuel, of Franklin, Agnes Johns and her husband, Larry, of Franklin, and Tammy Shaw of Polk. He is also survived by three brothers, John Shaw and his wife, Sharon, of Franklin, Barry Shaw of Franklin and Thomas Shaw of Polk; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Shaw was preceded in death by his father on April 2, 1987; his mother on April 12, 2002; two brothers, Joseph Shaw and Roy Shaw; and one sister, Roberta Shaw. There will be no visitation. Smith, 25, of College Street, Emlenton, passed away at 12:20 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 1, 2009, at UPMC Northwest in Seneca following an extended illness of 18 months. Born July 25, 1983, in DuBois, Clearfield County, he was a son of Allen T. and Nancy A. Trimble Smith. He was a 2002 graduate of Allegheny-Clarion Valley School District in Foxburg. Mr. Smith was a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps and was sent to Parris Island, Beaufort, S.C., for boot camp. He was then deployed to Iraq for a tour of duty, and following his return he was stationed at Camp LeJuene-Jacksonville, N.C., until his honorable discharge. He was employed at Courson Racing Engines in Emlenton. Mr. Smith was affiliated with Scrubgrass Presbyterian Church in Scrubgrass Township, Venango County. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and his Black Lab "Hank." He also enjoyed eating wings from Quaker Steak & Lube and especially all his family. In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Michael (Wendy L.) Stohon of Price, Utah, Mrs. Terry (Judy A) Pierce of Rossiter and Mrs. Walley (Barbara A) McCall of Grove City. He is also survived by a brother, Allen Smith Jr. and his wife, Paula, of Saegertown; his paternal grandmother, Marguerite Smith of Glen Campbell, Pa.; his maternal grandparents, Norman and Norma Trimble of Glen Campbell; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, uncles and aunts. Born June 23, 1918, she was a daughter to the late John and Martha Black Tingley. Mrs. Stanley graduated in 1937 from Farmington High School in Leeper. Following graduation, she worked at the Cook Forest Inn to earn money to attend Hoff Business College in Warren. While attending college, she worked at the YWCA for room and board. After passing the civil service exam, she moved to Washington D.C., and worked at the Pentagon. Mrs. Stanley met her husband, George Stanley, at a USO dance at Fort Belvoir, Va. They were married April 16, 1947, in St. Mathew Cathedral in Washington, D.C., and moved to the Panama Canal Zone. After working for 25 years as a civilian for the U.S. Army, Mrs. Stanley retired from the judge advocate general's office in the Chief of Claims Division. Mrs. Stanley and her husband returned to Pennsylvania and have enjoyed their retirement years at their home in Marble. Mrs. Stanley enjoyed watching the New York Yankees with her husband, spending time with her family, working in her yard and baking. Mrs. Stanley is survived by three children, George Stanley and his wife, Marie, of Fresno, Calif., John Stanley and his wife, Lynn, of Meridian, Idaho, and Marty Collett and her husband, Bob, of Lucinda; nine grandchildren, Justin and Jessica Stanley, Kimberly, Heather, Holly and Shanelle Stanley, Kelly Heart and her husband, Bill, Christy Sample and her husband, Jason, and Katie Collett; and 12 great-grandchildren, with Blake and Brooke Hart and Brayden and Riley Sample living locally. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Stanley was preceded in death by one brother, Francis Tingley; and one sister, Harriet Nick. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Faller Funeral Home Inc. in Fryburg. A parish vigil service will be held at 8:45 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Getting it right - Andrew J. Futyma Andrew J. Futyma, 88, of 350 Park Ave., Oil City, died at 8:53 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, at UPMC Northwest in Seneca. In addition to his wife, Helen Andres, he is survived by two brothers-in-law, Gerald Mullen of Valinda, Calif., and Bob Andres of Oil City.
