    3. The Derrick, January 5, 2008: James E. Barber, 10 VoTech Drive, Oil City Kathryn A. "Kathy" Hagan, Parker Leocadia S. "Lottie" Hajec, E. Main Street, Corry Nancy L. Porter, 7 Baker Road, Hempfield Township, Greenville Ann Agnes Pucalik, Mayport John "Jack" Wesley Reed Jr., Catonsville, Md. and formerly of Franklin James E. Barber, 86, of 10 Vo-Tech Drive, Oil City, a former Dempseytown and Siverly resident, died at 5:10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2008 at the Oil City Presbyterian Home after an extended illness. He had been a resident at the Presbyterian Home since March 9, 2006. Born Jan. 9, 1921 in Oil City, he was the son of the late Leon and Minnie Schwab Barber. He attended Siverly School, Lincoln Junior High School and Oil City Senior High School. He received a degree in accounting from Robert Morris University. Mr. Barber was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army in the European Theatre with Company D, 702nd Tank Battalion under Gen. Patton. He was awarded the Purple Heart from wounds he received during the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Barber and his brother Bob operated Barbers Apple Orchard and Strawberry Farm in Dempseytown from 1963 until 1995 when his brother passed away. He had previously worked for the Internal Revenue Service, Howard White Motors on Seneca Street, Oil City and later had an office in downtown Oil City where he did tax and accounting work. He enjoyed cooking and baking and could always be seen at the produce store on Route 417. Mr. Barber was a member of the Good Hope Lutheran Church. He is survived by a brother, John Barber and his wife, Marjorie, of Oil City; a sister-in-law, Rhea Barber of Franklin, and several nieces and nephews, John and Debbie Best, Gwen and Pete Berry, Gary and Darlene Barber, Linda and Randy Parson, Kim and Stan Hepler, Debbie Barber, John and Sherry Barber, Bob and Lois Barber, Tom and Ruth Barber, Sam and Marie Barber, Jane and Denny Hickman, Mike and Jacquelyn Barber, Mariam Myers and Vance Barber. Mr. Barber was preceded in death by three brothers Robert, Wade and Chuck Barber and by a sister, Esther Best. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to noon Monday at the Good Hope Lutheran Church. Funeral Services will then be conducted at noon Monday at the church with the Rev. Philip H. Scherr, pastor of the church, officiating. Interment with full military honors provided by the V.E.T.S. Honor Guard will follow at Grove Hill Cemetery. The family suggests memorials in Mr. Barber's name may be made to the Oil City Presbyterian Home. "Kathy" Hagan, 49, of Parker, died at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2008, at Montefiore Hospital in Pittsburgh, following an extended illness. Friends may call after 7 p.m. Monday at the H. Jack Buzard Funeral Home in Parker. A complete obituary including funeral arrangements will appear in Monday's newspaper. Leocadia S. "Lottie" Hajec, 88, of E. Main Street, Corry, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2008 at her residence. Born June 22, 1919 in Oil City, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Sophie Kutyla May. She was raised and educated in Oil City where she attended Assumption Catholic School. She graduated from Oil City High School in 1939. After graduation, Mrs. Hajec attended Welch Business School in Oil City. Following her marriage, her main priority was raising and caring for her family. Mrs. Hajec was a member of St. Elizabeth Roman Catholic Church and belonged to the St. Elizabeth Guild. She enjoyed gardening and cooking. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family. She was married May 22, 1943 in Oil City to Joseph Hajec, who preceded her in death on Jan. 3, 1996. Mrs. Hajec is survived by two daughters, Linda S. Roden and her husband, Michael, of Corry and Carol D. Bailey and her husband, Craig, of Columbus; two sons, Ronald J. Hajec and his wife, Sue, of Binghamton, N.Y. and Robert E. Hajec and his wife, Sherry of Aiken, S.C.; three sisters, Stella Szabat, Frances Garbac and Helen Mansfield all of Oil City, and a brother, John May and his wife, Christine, of New Castle, Del. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, Erica Hatala and her husband, Pete, of Binghamton, N.Y., Greg Hajec and his wife, Kate, of Elkton, Md., Allison Hajec and Brandon Hajec, both of Aiken, S.C., Mike Roden and his wife, Katey, of Spokane, Wash., Melissa Baines and her husband, Matthew, of Edinburgh, Scotland, Matt Roden of Burlington, N.C., Colin Bailey of Columbus, Camille Naylor and her husband, Bob, of Carnegie and Stephen Bailey and his wife, Danielle, of Corry; as well as four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Hajec was preceded in death by two sisters, Cecelia Guy and Mary Moran and a brother, Edward May. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Bracken Funeral Home, 315 N. Center Street, Corry. A scripture service will be held at the funeral home at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Thomas Brown officiating. Interment will be in St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Corry. Nancy L. Porter, 66, of 7 Baker Road, Hempfield Township, Greenville, died at 4 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2008 at White Cliff Nursing Home, Hempfield Township. Born May 21, 1941 in Smicksburg, she was the daughter of Elmer and Esther Cornman Craig. She previously worked for West Side Laundry in Greenville and also cleaned homes in the Greenville area. She was a member of the New Apostolic Church of Greenville. She enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include her companion, Waldo E. Palmer Jr. of Greenville; a daughter, Judy Carlson of Kinsman, Ohio; seven brothers, Elmer Craig of Utica, Daryl Craig of Youngstown, Ohio, Melvin Craig of Oil City, Raymond Craig of Franklin and Clair Craig, Bert Craig and Ronald Craig, all of Oil City; a sister, Anna Mae Shaner of Hadley; three grandchildren, Tia Karl, Frank A. Keck III and Antonio James Keck, and three great grandchildren, Jace Keck, Charity McCullough and Angela McCullough. She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Nancy Porter. Born Jan. 1, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Petro Wargo. On Sept. 10, 1940 in the Holy Trinity Church of McKeesport, she married Albert J. Pucalik. He preceded her in death on Aug. 13, 2000. Mrs. Pucalik is survived by one daughter, Marie Pucalik of RD1 Mayport and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. today at the Rupert Funeral Home in New Bethlehem. A mass will be held at 2:30 p.m. today at the St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Crates. The Rev. William Laska will serve as celebrant. Interment will follow at the St. Charles Catholic Cemetery in New Bethlehem. John 'Jack' Wesley Reed Jr. John "Jack" Wesley Reed Jr., 71, formerly of Franklin, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008 in Catonsville, Md. Born in Franklin on Sept. 14, 1936, he was a son of John Wesley and Mary McNamara Reed. Mr. Reed graduated from Franklin High School in 1956. He served with the U.S. Navy after high school, and in 1963, he moved from Franklin to Catonsville, Md. Mr. Reed was employed at the Wilson Lumber Company in Catonsville for many years and most recently at an auto parts store. He enjoyed boating on the Chesapeake Bay and fishing and camping. Surviving are five sisters, Mary Jean Robertson of Catonsville, Betty Anderson and her husband, Donald, Judy Thomas and Margy Griffen and her husband, Paul, all of Franklin and Marti Vidoni and her husband, James, of St. George, Utah; four brothers, George Reed and his wife, Joyce, of Titusville, James Reed and his wife, Sally, Richard Reed and his wife, Kathy, and William "Mick" Reed and his wife, Leta, all of Franklin; as well as 34 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Charles Reed, Donald Reed and Raymond Reed. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19 in St. Patrick Church with the Rev. Robert Manning, pastor of the church, officiating. Interment will be in St. Patrick Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Patrick Church, 949 Liberty St., Franklin. The Huff Chapel, 312 W. Park St., Franklin, is in charge of arrangements.
