Shafer, formerly of Front Street, Oil City Marjorie J. Survance, Medina, Ohio Edward R. Theuret, Lobaugh Hill Road, Rimersburg Lynn Wheeling memorial set Alvin Lewis Heckler Sr., 88, of Jacksonville, Fla., passed away Saturday, March 7, 2009. Born April 8, 1920, in Bradys Bend Township, he was the son of Lewis Alvin and Ida Gertrude McKinney Heckler. Alvin retired from NCR, where he had been a systems analyst. He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran. C. Eugene Myers, 86, of Chestnut Street, Rimersburg, ascended to heaven Sunday, March 9, 2009, at Clarview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center near Sligo. Born Dec. 19, 1922, in Licking Township, Clarion County, he was the son of the late Clarence and Mary Keister Myers. He was married Aug. 9, 1945, at the Sligo Methodist parsonage to the former Ruby Marie Strohmyer, who survives. Mr. Myers was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. armed forces as a corporal in the Army Air Force. He was the owner of Myers Water Wells & Pump Service and was employed with Owens Illinois Glass Plant in Clarion until his retirement. He was also a certified lay pastor. He enjoyed working and he deeply loved his Lord, his wife and his family. In addition to his wife, Mr. Myers is survived by seven children, C. Eugene Myers and his wife, Christine, of Maumee, Ohio, Debra Cramer and her husband, Lani, of Dresden, Ohio, Candace Hawk and her husband, Terry, of Knox, Randy Myers and his wife, Neidi, of Desert Hot Springs, Calif., Harmon Myers and his wife, Jill, of Enon Valley, Darrin Myers and his wife, Dinah, of Sligo, and Gena Colwell and her husband, Russ, of Knox; 20 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. He is also survived by a brother, Harmon W. Myers of Shippenville; a nephew, Jerry Myers; and his faithful dachshund, Kipper. In addition to his parents, Mr. Myers was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Myers; and a great-granddaughter, Lacey Myers. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Grace Community Church in Curllsville with Pastor Dan George officiating. John Edward Paluh, 80, a resident of Niagara Village Retirement Community in Erie, formerly of Pleasantville, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2009, at Hamot Medical Center in Erie. Born April 25, 1928, in Erie, he was a son of the late John and Frances Anderson Paluh. He was married for 53 years to Beverly Duarte Paluh, who preceded him in death. John was a retired police officer having worked for the Erie Police Department. He served in both the U.S Navy and U.S. Air Force. He served as a Eucharistic minister at St. Anthony Church in Tionesta and was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Titusville. After retirement, Mr. Paluh built his home in Pleasantville and resided there with Beverly for 30 years. He recently moved back to Erie and lived at Niagara Village Retirement Community. He enjoyed woodworking, reading, history, fishing, and music. His great faith encircled his family, friends and community. John was gifted with endless stories and humor. He will be dearly missed. Mr. Paluh is survived by a son, Tom Paluh and his wife, Ramona, of Palm Coast, Fla., their children, Tom and Justin, and two great-grandchildren Aiden and Annalyse; a son Jack Paluh and his wife, Marian, of Waterford and their three children, Adam, Megan and Joshua; a son Michael Paluh and his wife, Kim, of Tionesta and their children, Rachel and Michael Ethan; and a daughter, Anne Chase and her husband, Dan, of Windsor, Colo. and their children, Luke, Samantha and Matt and his wife, Christine, and a great-grandson, Wyatt. Mr. Paluh is also survived by two brothers, Larry Paluh of Thornton, Colo. and Jim Paluh of Union City; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Paluh was preceded in death by three brothers, Jerome, David and Walter; a sister, Carol; a granddaughter, Hannah Paluh; and two great-granddaughters, Madison Mae and Gabrielle Ann Lenze. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home, 303 N. Washington St., Titusville. A vigil service will be at 1:45 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Titus Church in Titusville with the Rev. D.G. Davis III, pastor of the Titusville Catholic Community, as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Catharine Cemetery in Titusville with full military rites. Earl W. Shafer, 80, formerly of Front Street, Oil City, passed away Monday, March 2, 2009. Born Aug. 7, 1928, in Oil City, he was the son of Lawrence and Bertha Bower Shafer. Mr. Shafer graduated in 1946 from Oil City High School and earned a master's degree in music from Temple University. He is a graduate of InfoAge Computer School and attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He also served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Shafer taught music in various locations, including Ohio, Wisconsin and Germany. His dedication to music was vital to starting Carols in the Park and in producing a Christmas recording of pipe organs in Oil City churches. He was also a co-founder of Mostly Brass and a member of the Silver Cornet Band. He was an aide for former state Rep. Ron Black and was involved in numerous projects. Mr. Shafer was a co-founder of the Center for Hope Counseling Center. He was well known for his volunteer work in the community and his involvement in the Oil City Chamber of Commerce, which included the Economic Development Corp., the Weaver Buick Chess Club and the Oil City Historical Walking Tour. He is survived by a sister, Joan Oakes of Oil City; seven nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Lydia Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Henrietta Carll; and a brother, Lawrence "Bud" Shafer. A memorial service will be held by the family. Marjorie J. Survance, 86, of Medina, Ohio, died Saturday, March 7, 2009, in Seneca. Born July 22, 1922, in Akron, Ohio, she was the wife of the late Cecil Survance. During World War II, Marjorie was a "Rosie the Riveter" for Goodyear Aerospace in Akron. Mrs. Survance was manager of the former Value Dress Shop in Medina. She was a member of UCC Congregational Church in Medina. She also volunteered at Medina Community Services Center for many years. She is survived by two sons, Kurt Survance and his wife, Gigi, of Portland, Ore., and Jon Survance and his wife, Shirley, of Oil City; one daughter, Cecelia Smith and her husband, Dale, of Doylestown, Ohio; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Survance was preceded in death by one sister, Irene Mapes; and one brother, Bud Carrick. Visitation was held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Waite & Son Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at the funeral home with the Rev. Neal Sadler officiating. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery in Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Medina Community Services Center, 655 N. Broadway St., Medina. Edward R. Theuret, 65, of Lobaugh Hill Road, Rimersburg, passed away Sunday afternoon, March 8, 2009, at UPMC Shadyside in Pittsburgh following an illness. Born Aug. 8, 1943, in Buffalo, N.Y., he was a son of the late Regis Theuret and Peggy Cratty Theuret. He was married Nov. 14, 1970, to the former Doris M. Seybert, who survives. Mr. Theuret was a 1962 graduate of Allegheny-Clarion Valley High School. He was affiliated with Allegheny Wesleyan Methodist Church near Rimersburg. Mr. Theuret served with the U.S. Navy from 1962 until 1968 aboard the submarine tender USS Pontius. He served as a Little League baseball coach in the Rimersburg area, coaching the George Farm team, the 68 Bar team and the Riverside team. He had been employed by Glass Containers in Parker, Owens Illinois in Clarion and at Koppers, now Indspec, in Petrolia until his health failed. In addition to his wife, Mr. Theuret is survived by one daughter, Ann M. Ramsey and her husband, Jonathon, of Front Royal, Va.; two sons, Thomas L. Theuret and his wife, Cynthia, of Hershey, and Jason E. Theuret and his wife, Tonya, of Rimersburg; four grandchildren, Adam Joseph Theuret of Hershey, Hailey Nicole Theuret of Rimersburg, Hannah Elizabeth Theuret of Hershey and Michael Thomas Theuret of Rimersburg; a sister, Donna L. Felty of Dover, Del.; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Richard D. Hillis Funeral Home in Rimersburg. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Mark Deeter, pastor of Allegheny Wesleyan Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Bradys Bend Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded at the funeral home by members of the Rimersburg American Legion and VFW. Online condolences may be sent to www.hillisfuneralhome.com Lynn Wheeling memorial set There will be an informal memorial for Lynn Wheeling, an artist and retired Oil City teacher and formerly of 301 Innis St., Oil City, at 4:30 p.m. Thursday. Those attending are asked by friends to bring a flower and meet in the parking lot under the State Street Bridge. Memories can be shared and flowers will be dropped into the Allegheny River from the bridge. Ms. Wheeling, who appreciated the natural beauty of the area, particularly the Allegheny River, died March 3 of Sjogren's Syndrome, an auto-immune disease.
