Ruby Jr., Seneca Getting it right - Pamela Slater Curtis J. Ditzenberger, 41, of 114 Main St. Extension, Polk, died at 4:50 a.m. Wednesday March 18, 2009, at UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh. Curt died of natural causes due to a massive right brain stroke. Born Oct. 22, 1967, in Grove City, he was the son of Richard D. and Alice Ditzenberger. Mr. Ditzenberger was a 1986 graduate of Franklin High School and a 1991 graduate of Clarion University with a bachelor's degree. in biology. He was employed as a teacher for Franklin Area School District. Mr. Ditzenberger enjoyed baseball, fly fishing, being outdoors and, most of all, being with his children and family. He was the former head baseball coach at Franklin High School. In addition to his parents, Mr. Ditzenberger is survived by two children, Kyle W. Ditzenberger and Kate L. Ditzenberger, both of Franklin; and two brothers, Chad Ditzenberger and his wife, Amy, of Franklin and Dennis B. Ditzenberger and his wife, Gina, of Pittsburgh. He is also survived by two nieces, Shania Ditzenberger of Franklin and Allison Ditzenberger of Pittsburgh; two nephews, Dalton Ditzenberger of Franklin and Richard Ditzenberger of Pittsburgh; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Mr. Ditzenberger was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Gardinier Funeral Home, 1315 Chestnut St, Franklin. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. John's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Holly Davis officiating. Interment will be in Graham Cemetery. Born June 9, 1944, in Pittsburgh, she was a daughter of Max George Smith and Eleanor LaRue Mortimer. She was married Oct. 16, 1965, in Rimersburg, to Merle Evan George Jr., who survives in Georgetown, Texas. Mrs. George attended Clarion University and the University of Texas in Austin, where she received her bachelor's degree. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Georgetown, Texas. Mrs. George enjoyed fine dining, antique collecting, entertaining friends and most importantly, her precious family. Her love of children caused her to become a elementary school teacher in the Round Rock School District in Round Rock, Texas. In addition to her husband, Mrs. George is survived by two sons, Doug George and his fiancé, Tatia Smith, of Magnolia, Texas and Dan George and his wife, Kristi, of Westerville, Ohio; her mother, LaRue Daw of Butler; two sisters, Molly Lovric of Butler and Beth Gumpl of New Braunfels, Texas; and five grandchildren, Leah George, Emma George, Molly George, Max George and Katie Smith. Funeral services were held March 13 in Texas. Gabriels Funeral Chapel of Georgetown, Texas, was handling arrangements. Goodman, 71, of 249 Flockerzi Road, Oil City, passed away at 7 a.m. Thursday, March 19, 2009, at the Presbyterian Home in Oil City, following several months of declining health. Born Feb. 20, 1938, in Oil City, he was the son of David Goodman and Thelma Ferringer Goodman, who both preceded him in death. He was married Feb. 27, 1960, to the great love of his life, the former Delores Rita Perry, who was at his side for the past 49 years, and she survives. Mr. Goodman attended Cranberry and Oil City area schools and proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1959. He was a member of the Heckathorn United Methodist Church and Oil City Jaycees service club. Mr. Goodman was a long-time Quaker State employee, serving there for 35 years until his early retirement when the headquarters moved out of Oil City. During his years at Quaker State he worked in the mail room and later managed the warehouse facility in Seneca. After retirement, he assisted his son and wife in the family business at Baker's Confectionery until they sold it in 2002. He enjoyed participating in and watching sports over the years. He was an avid participant in the Quaker State sponsored bowling league and played in the area men's softball league. He was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers. Mr. Goodman's hobbies were varied. He was a collector of LP records, especially songs and artists from the '50s and '60s. He also loved watching movies and his favorites included military and western films. He collected items related to his Native American heritage and old photographs of the area. He had a keen interest in history, especially of this surrounding area and the oil industry. He also enjoyed hunting, gardening and landscaping around his home in the Coal Hill area. He had a great love for animals, especially cats, and will be greatly missed by his cat, Joe. Mr. Goodman's proudest accomplishment was being the father of four children and the grandfather of two granddaughters. He followed all their school, sporting, social and work accomplishments with keen interest and great pride. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Tina Renee Moon and her husband, William, of Oil City and Marcie Lee Rodriguez of Bonita Springs, Fla.; and two sons, Timothy Glenn Goodman and his wife, Chris, of Oil City and Mark Andrew Goodman and his fiancé, Amy Stamm, of Oil City. He is also survived by two granddaughters, April Renee Moon and Rachel Lee Moon and her fiancé, Brandon Kapp; two brothers, David Goodman and his wife, Donna, of Oil City and Harold Goodman and his wife, Beverly, of Midway, Ga.; two sisters-in-law, Judy Stahlman of Seneca and Marjorie Fye and her husband, Howard, of Knox; 12 nephews and nieces; and his long-time friend and hunting, fishing and gardening buddy of 45 years, Gerald Anderson and his wife, Carol, of Seneca. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Morrison Funeral Home in Oil City. Hollis, 68, of Leeper, died late Wednesday evening, March 18, 2009, at the Clarion Hospital. Born Nov. 15, 1940, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of Wesley T. and Cecilia Hickey Hollis. He married the former Delores Jane Lutz on June 14, 1966, and she survives. Mr. Hollis served in the U.S. Army. He worked for Foster Forbes in Oil City and also Marienville and Knox Glass Plants. In later years he worked with his brother-in-law installing siding on houses. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, the Steelers, NASCAR, camping, gardening and cutting firewood. In addition to his wife, Mr. Hollis is survived by two sons, William W. Hollis and his wife, Rebecca, of Vowinckel, and David A. Hollis of Knox; and two daughters, Betty Servey and her husband, George III, and Kathy Beichner and her husband, Rick, all of Shippenville. He is also survived by three brothers, Wesley Hollis of Tionesta, Charles Hollis of Jamestown, N.Y. and Harry Hollis of Leeper; one sister, Connie Whiteman and her husband, Larry, of Curry, N.C.; six grandchildren, Kyle, Josh and Jessica Servey, and Kaitlyn, Jenna and Kaleb Beichner; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hollis was preceded in death by three brothers, Donald, Richard and Harvey Hollis. Erma J. Hurt, 73, of 23225 Titusville Rd., Titusville, formerly of E. Gore Road, Erie, died at 12:35 a.m. Thursday, March 19, 2009, at Titusville Area Hospital after an extended illness. Born June 9, 1935, in Cranberry Township, Venango County, she was a daughter of the late John and Bernice Merwin Murray. Mrs. Hurt was a graduate of Cranberry Area High School. She was employed for many years at Oakwood Rose Gardens, and then worked alongside her husband at Hurt's Meter Service, a business they started in Erie, and then moved to Hydetown. Mrs. Hurt enjoyed her family and friends, watching sports and their devoted dog, Dusty. On Oct. 6, 1955, she married Leon E. Hurt in Oil City, and he survives. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Sally Barr and her husband, Alan, of Centerville; a son Brian Hurt and his wife, Fae Michelle, of Rocky Grove; two grandchildren, Jessica Hurt and Brandon Hurt and his companion, Christina; and two great-grandchildren, Chasity and Lilyan. She is also survived by a sister, Rhea Britt and her husband, Phil, of Macon, Ga.; a brother, Richard Murray and his wife, Nancy, of Oil City; a sister-in-law, Sherry Murray of Tennessee; a brother, John and his wife, Linda; a brother-in-law, Roger Hurt and his wife, Nancy, of Coudersport; and many nieces and nephews. Veronica "Noni" Huefner, 73, of 12631 Route 208 Marble, died unexpectedly Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at her home. Born March 6, 1936, in Fryburg, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Susan Zacherl Groner. She was married Oct. 12, 1957, at St. Michael Church in Fryburg, to Regis E. Huefner, who survives. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in the fall of 2007. Mrs. Huefner attended McGinnis, Fryburg Public, and North Clarion High School, graduating in 1954. She was employed for years at the L & R Store in Clarion and Lighting Palace of the Riverhill, where she made a lot of close friends. Later, she joined Chandler Dining as a food handler. She enjoyed her granddaughters, decorating, lawn and gardening, shopping, and helping people. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Huefner is survived by two sons, Kurt M. Huefner of Marble and Brad C. Huefner and his wife, Cheryl A. "Cher," of Leeper; two granddaughters, Shawne Nicole and Braden Suzanne Huefner, both of Leeper. Also surviving are two brothers, Joseph Groner and his wife, Virginia, of Shippenville and Edward Groner and wife, Mary Ann, of Shippenville; and a brother-in-law, Clair Bauer of Lake Lucy. She was also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Sister M. Suzanne, O.S.B and Dorothy Bauer; and two nieces, Jolene Bauer and Kristine Fink. Family will receive friends from 1:30 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Robert V. Born Sept. 4, 1940, in Oil City, she was the daughter of Carl T. and Lenore Reynolds Beatty. She had attended the Oil City schools and has lived in in the Oil City area all of her life. Mrs. Kell was a licensed beautician since 1960 and ran her own beauty salon out of her residence in Siverly for a number of years. She was also an Avon lady. Mrs. Kell was a very active member of the Bethel United Methodist Church in Oil City where she served in many capacities. She is survived by two grandsons, Randy Whitling of Oil City and Mel Beatty of Colorado. Mrs. Kell was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Bonnie J. Kell; a son, Russell Beatty; two sisters, Patricia Kightlinger and Virginia McCartney; and a brother, Charles Beatty. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, in the Hutchinson Funeral Home, 201 Bissell Ave. Oil City. Kinch, 64, of 1485 Mercer Road, Frenchcreek Township, died peacefully at 4:35 a.m. Wednesday March 18, 2009, at UPMC Northwest Seneca, following an extended illness. Born Nov. 23, 1944, in Oil City, he was a beloved son of Richard L. and Mary Kirkwood Kinch. Upon his graduation from high school, Mr. Kinch continued his education through an apprenticeship as an electrician with the Commonwealth Edison Company in Zion, Ill. Following his apprenticeship period, Mr. Kinch remained with the company as an electrician in the company's substation for more than 25 years; he retired in 1991. Mr. Kinch proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He will best be remembered by his family as the ultimate animal lover. Mr. Kinch cherished times spent with his dogs, Heidi, Ricky and Lucy, who had brought him much joy. He will be deeply missed by his second family, the wildlife around his home, that he had befriended and cared for. Mr. Kinch enjoyed times spent boating and fishing. He was also an accomplished cook and enjoyed entertaining for his family and friends. Mr. Kinch is survived by his wife, Sandra Walker Kinch; three daughters, Laura Kinch of Manhattan, N.Y., Jill Newsome and her husband, Brian, of Atlanta, Ga. and Sheryl Kinch of Buffalo Grove, Ill.; two step-children, Victoria Osborne and her husband, John, of Port Orchard, Wash. and Thomas Gradowski and his wife, Michelle, of Lindhurst, Ill.; and three grandchildren, Nate Osborne, Elizabeth Osborne and Hunter Gradowski. He is also survived by his parents, Richard L. and Mary Kirkwood Kinch of Meadville; and a sister, Michelle Talbott and her husband, Jan, of Florida and Henry's Bend. Mr. Kinch was preceded in death by his grandparents and a step-daughter, Nicole Gradowski. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Timothy E. Ruby Jr., 85, of Seneca, formerly of Greenfield, was called home by God peacefully Wednesday, March 18, 2009. Mr. Ruby is survived by his wife, Carol Ann Forney Ruby; two children, Tammy Jubeck and her husband, William, of Seneca and Steve Ruby of Murrysville; five grandchildren, Cody, Amber, Victoria, Nicholas and Zachary; a sister, Anna Slobodnyak; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Ruby was preceded in death by three brothers, Steve, John and Joe, and two sisters, Peggy and Martha. Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the Edward P. Kanai Funeral Home, 500 Greenfield Ave., Pittsburgh. Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, followed by a funeral Mass at noon in St. Rosalia Church. Getting it right - Pamela Slater Pamela Slater, 58, of Marienville, died at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday March 17, 2009, at the Clarion Hospital. Among Mrs. Slater's survivors are three children, Chris Slater of Marienville, Aaron Slater of Fort Lee, Va. and Emily Slater of Marienville.
