    3. The Derrick, March 17, 2009: Samuel J. Ferrare, Pismo Beach, Calif., Franklin native Blaine C. Griffin, Seneca Janean Hoffman, 1504 Liberty St., Franklin Richard R. Hoffman, 308 Baker Road, Cooperstown Donald A. Pierce, Knox Michael Rizzone, Dallas, Texas, Oil City native Samuel J. Ferrare, 85, of Pismo Beach, Calif., a native of Franklin, died Sunday, March 15, 2009, in Pescadero, Calif., where he had been residing with his daughter. Born May 26, 1923, in Franklin, he was the son of Louis Ferrare Sr. and Pearl Belfiore Ferrare. He was a 1941 graduate of Franklin High School. He was a World War II veteran, serving with the U.S. Navy from 1941 to 1945. Mr. Ferrare was co-owner of F&G Realtors in Pismo Beach. He was a member and past governor of the Moose Club in Pismo Beach and belonged to the Elks Club. He was married in 1944 to the former Bernice E. Jorgensen. She preceded him in death in 2006. Surviving are two daughters, Janet Ferrare and her husband, Robert Monsen, of Pescadero, Calif. and Linda O'Sullivan of Pescadero, Calif.; three grandchildren, Ruby Monsen, Sara O' Sullivan and Cassidy Monsen; one great-granddaughter, Phoenyx; two sisters, Theresa Bennett and Louise Ferrare, both of Franklin; two sisters-in-law, Christine Ferrare and Ruth Chappell, both of Fresno, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death in addition to his wife and parents were a son-in-law, Dr. Martin O'Sullivan; two brothers, Anthony Ferrare and Louis Ferrare Jr.; and a sister, Genevieve Scapaticci, who died Dec. 2, 2008. Funeral services will be held in Pismo Beach. His sisters of Franklin will attend. Blaine C. Griffin, 72, of Seneca, died Monday morning, March 16, 2009, in UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hile-Best Funeral Home Inc. in Seneca. A complete obituary will be published Wednesday in The Derrick. Janean Hoffman, 85, of 1504 Liberty St., Franklin, died Sunday, March 15, 2009, at her residence. The Morrison Funeral Home in Oil City is in charge of arrangements. A complete obituary will be published Wednesday. Richard R. Hoffman, 82, of 308 Baker Road, Cooperstown, died at 7:11 p.m. Sunday, March 15, 2009, at UPMC Northwest in Seneca. Born Dec. 20, 1926, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of Otto Hoffman and Bertha Brueckner Hoffman. Mr. Hoffman was retired from Nordic Fisheries in Pittsburgh, where he worked as a fisher and cutter. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, and he served in World War II. Mr. Hoffman was an avid hunter. He enjoyed gardening, leather crafting and his retirement. He was married June 14, 1947, to Ruth Helt, who preceded him in death. Mr. Hoffman is survived by one son, Robert R. Hoffman and his wife, Linda, of Pittsburgh; one daughter, Donna Haskins of Cooperstown; one sister, Lois Schenkel of Pittsburgh; five grandchildren, Kristi Hoffman of Pennsburg, Brian Haskins and his wife, Lisa, of Cooperstown, Jason Hoffman and his wife, Melanie, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Todd Haskins and Molly, of Oil City, and Shaun Haskins and his wife, Heather, of Meadville; and five great-grandchildren, Mae Haskins of Cooperstown, JaLynn Hoffman of Colorado Springs, Colo., Parke and Rylan Haskins of Oil City and Miranda Coxson. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Hoffman was preceded in death by two brothers, Otto and William Helt; and three sisters, Betty, Helen and Margaret. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Gardinier Funeral Home Inc., 1315 Chestnut St., Franklin. A service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home with the Rev. Pierce, 84, of Knox, died Monday morning, March 16, 2009, at the Hospice House in Shippenville following a brief illness. The William N. Rupert Mortuary Inc. of Knox is in charge of arrangements. Rizzone, 86, of Dallas, Texas, an Oil City native and brother of Phyllis and Lucy Dolecki of Oil City, died Saturday, March 7, 2009, in Dallas.
