Gariepy Helen Rose Jackson, 94, formerly of Oil City, passed away Friday, April 17, 2009, in Clermont, Fla. Born Aug. 15, 1914, in Oil City, she was the daughter of the late Elizabeth Malloy and Howard Smith Rose. She was the third of five children. She was married to Robert D. Jackson Sr., who preceded her in death in 1969. Mrs. Jackson was the tax assessor for Oil City and was on the board of the Oil City Hospital. She was actively involved in the Child Conservation League, Well Baby Clinic and Meals on Wheels, and she still had time to raise three children and her granddaughter, Deb Jackson. After 80 years in Oil City, she and Deb moved to Florida in 1994 to be with family. She got involved in the Friends of Cooper Memorial Library and in many bridge clubs. She made some wonderful new friends and lived her life with gusto. Her spirit, sense of humor and love live in everyone she knew, and she will be greatly missed. Mrs. Jackson is survived by a sister, Nancy Rose Hanna and her husband, Lee, of Belleaire Beach, Fla.; a granddaughter, Deborah J. Jackson; a son, Robert D. Jackson Jr. and his wife, Arlene; a daughter, Jane E. Jackson; a grandson, Gary R. Jackson; two great-grandsons and many nieces, nephews and wonderful friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Jackson was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Hunt; a granddaughter, Amy Klingensmith; and a great-grandson, Ian Klingensmith. Helen E. Murphy, 90, of Snydersburg, passed away early Wednesday morning, April 22, 2009, at Golden Living Center in Shippenville. Born Oct. 4, 1918, in Snydersburg, she was the daughter of William and Catherine Ginkel Snyder. She was married to John J. Murphy on June 18, 1946, at St. Joseph Church in Lucinda, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 6, 2002. Mrs. Murphy worked for Aunt Lizzie's Store in Snydersburg and Owens Illinois in Clarion. She was a member of St. Joseph Church in Lucinda and the Rosary Society of the church. Mrs. Murphy is survived by four sons, William J. Murphy and his wife, Eileen, of Cranberry Township, Richard J. Murphy and his wife, Roxanne, of Lucinda, Kenneth M. Murphy and his wife, Donna, of Butler and Timothy J. Murphy and his wife, Susan, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and two daughters, Mary C. Fowler of Ormond Beach, Fla., and Patti A.Kaltenbach and her husband, James L., of Lucinda. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Murphy was preceded in death by five brothers, Francis, Leo, Raymond, Edwin and Vincent; three sisters, Gertrude, Bertha and Lucille; and a son-in-law, Robert Fowler. Friends and family may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Borland Funeral Home Inc. in Leeper. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Joseph Church, Lucinda, with the Rev. William C. Miller, pastor, as celebrant. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Ross, 80, of Titusville, Fla., formerly of Eau Claire, died Tuesday, April 21, 2009, of natural causes, shortly after his arrival at Parrish Medical Center in Titusville, Fla. He owned R.H. Ross Trucking of Titusville. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Jones Ross; two children and one sister. Eaven Evertt Schrum, infant son of Salena R. Updegraff and Chad Evertt Schrum of 4 Deer St., Oil City, was ushered into the arms of the Lord Jesus Christ at 4:04 a.m. Monday, April 21, 2009, at UPMC Northwest, Seneca, where he was stillborn. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his maternal grandparents, Machelle Updegraff and James Greenawalt of Oil City; his paternal grandmother, Cathy Schrum of Oil City, his maternal great-grandfather, Paul Updegraff and his special friend, Betsy Slater, both of Oil City; his paternal great-grandparents, Phil and Donna Sterner of Oil City; a paternal great-grandmother, Dorothy Schrum of Oil City; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Eaven was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Lynn Myhoci; and paternal grandfather, Stephen Schrum. Mary Louise Sherman, 83, formerly of Highland Oaks in Shippenville, died Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at Golden Living Center in Clarion. Born Dec. 7, 1925, in Clarion, she was the daughter of Harry and Pearl Brocious Martz. She was married to Jack C. Sherman, who preceded her in death Aug. 22, 1996. Mrs. Sherman was a motel manager and also worked at McKisson Drugs in Florida. She was a homemaker and a caregiver for her husband. She enjoyed crafts, fishing and the outdoors along with her grandchildren. Mrs. Sherman is survived by a daughter, Bernice McClain of Miola; two sons, Leslie Reed and his wife, Lori, of Strattanville and Mark "Doug" Reed and his wife, Nellie Sox, of Miola; two brothers, Wayne Martz and his wife, Mary, of Clarion and Harry E. Martz Jr. and his wife, Patty, of Shippenville; a sister, Betty Jean Klingler of Clarion; and a brother-in-law, Robert Dittman of Oil City. She also is survived by seven grandchildren, Melinda Coultes, Melissa Campbell and her husband, Barry, Michelle DeSanto and her husband, Eric, Gloria Lambing and her husband, Dan, Jason Reed and his fiancee, Christine Bartzer, Cory Yoho and Rob Yoho; 13 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Sherman was preceded in death by one sister, Jean Dittman; one brother, John Martz; a son-in-law, Carl McClain; and a niece, Jill Reed Eselman. Gariepy, 57, of Oil City, died at 8:52 p.m. Monday, April 20, 2009, at the Oil City Presbyterian Home, where she had been a patient since July 1, 2007. Ms. Gariepy is survived by a special friend, Lillie Kaputa, from whom she received the little pink bear that she loved so much.
