Klein, 10785 Troy Center Road, Titusville Betty Spencer, 621 Pacific St., Franklin Douglas William Steinman, Lake Lucy M. Reed Thompson, Grove Manor, Grove City, formerly of Barkeyville George A. Brown Jr., of Port Orange, Fla., formerly of Franklin, died Tuesday, April 7, 2009. Mr. Brown is survived by his wife, Charlsey; a daughter, Connie; a grandson, Tucker; and a sister, Patricia Seifreit and her husband, Norm, of Titusville, Fla. He was preceded in death by a son, George A. Brown III. Paul R. Fridley, 77, formerly of 18 Wayne St., Oil City, died at 8:25 a.m. Thursday, April 9, 2009, in the Presbyterian Home in Oil City. Born Aug. 22, 1931, in DuBois, he was the son of the late Paul D. and Lucille Grinnen Fridley. He was married Sept. 20, 1958, to the former Virginia L. Voit, who preceded him in death Aug. 20, 2005. Mr. Fridley was a 1951 graduate of Oil City High School. After high school, he served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict from 1952 to 1956 and attained the rank of Airman First Class. He received the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal and the National Service Medal for his service. Mr. Fridley lived in the Oil City area all of his life and was a past member of the V.F.W. Post 464 in Oil City. In his spare time he enjoyed flying remote control airplanes. He had worked as a gas measurement specialist for National Fuel Gas for a number of years until his retirement. Mr. Fridley is survived by three sons, Mike Fridley and Paul Fridley, both of Oil City, and Scott Fridley and his wife, Carolyn, of Live Oak, Fla.; a daughter, Kelley Farren of Oil City; numerous grandchildren; a great grandson; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Fridley was preceded in death by a brother, Lannie Fridley. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. today at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 2 Center St., Oil City, with the Rev. Tom Phillips, pastor, officiating. The interment will be in the Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens, Cranberry. The Hutchinson Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Roger Duane Kahle, 70, of Main Street, Shippenville, passed away at 11 p.m. Friday, April 10, 2009, at Clarion Hospital. Born Sept. 25, 1938, in Clarion County, he was the son of the late Harry and Alice Reaghart Kahle. He was married Nov. 28, 1958, to the former Constance "Connie" Ruth Lewis, who preceded him in death Feb. 12, 1998. Mr. Kahle attended Clarion schools. He worked for C&K Coal Company until his retirement. Mr. Kahle was a member of the Army Reserves. He was a former member of the American Legion in Clarion. He loved being outdoors and working with family and friends and his dog, "Cash." Mr. Kahle is survived by five children, Dena Kania and her husband, Al, of Texas, Rhonda Hankey and her husband, Matt, of Clarion, Carla Wise and her husband, Steve Burris, of Shippenville, Duane Kahle and his wife, Becky, of Virginia and Benjamin Kahle of Shippenville; eight grandchildren, Cory Dean Kahle, Shaun Patrick Hannah, Kobe Benjamin Roger Kahle, Camden Morgan Hankey, Jessica Lynn Mattern, Kayla Marie Wise, Tuesday Mae Wise and Paige Marie Wise; and a great-granddaughter, Ava Marie Hannah. Mr. Kahle is also survived by a sister, Patty Steward and her husband, Dave, of Clarion; his in-laws, Blake and Naomi Lewis of Shippenville; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Kahle was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Thomas Kahle. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the David C. Klein, 92, of 10785 Troy Center Road, Titusville, died at 9:05 p.m. Friday, April 10, 2009, at UPMC Northwest in Seneca. Born Feb. 3, 1917, in Basel, Switzerland, she was a daughter of the late Wilhelm and Anna Wchwarz Frick. She was a U.S. citizen. She was married to Rudolph Klein who preceded her in death in 1971. Mrs. Klein was very passionate about dogs and showed them at different events. She was also well known for her flower gardens. Mrs. Klein is survived by a daughter-in-law, Diane M. Klein of Cooperstown; two grandsons, Stanley R. Klein and his wife, Emily, of Pascoag, R.I. and Jerome A. Klein and his wife, Julie, of Raymond, Ohio; four great-grandchildren, Jose and Carlos Klein of Pascoag, R.I. and Lily and Samuel Klein of Raymond, Ohio. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Klein was preceded in death by a son, Dr. Rolf A. Klein; and a sister, Hanna Klein. There will be a private family visitation. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Huff Chapel, 312 W. Park St., Franklin with Richard A. Reed, Deacon at St. Patrick's Church in Franklin, officiating. Betty Spencer, 76, of 621 Pacific St., Franklin, died Sunday, April 12, 2009, at her residence. Born March 21, 1933, in Arnold City, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank and Disa Hough. She was married to Robert Spencer Sr. who preceded her in death. Mrs. Spencer was a homemaker. She was a member of the Salvation Army Church and active in the Salvation Army as a senior soldier, women's Bible study and home league. Mrs. Spencer is survived by six children, Robert Spencer Jr. of Franklin, Timothy Spencer of Franklin, Gloria Jackson and her husband, Timothy, of Erie, Jennie Briscal of Milton, Fla., Deborah Hollowell and her husband, Pat, of Oil City and Theresa Stricklen and her fiancé, Mike Feely, of Oil City. She is also survived by 22 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; and a brother, Bennett Hough of Monogahela. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Spencer was preceded in death by a son, Terry Lee Spencer; a sister, Eliza Painter; and a brother, George Sullivan. Douglas William Steinman, 53, of Lake Lucy, a businessman and former U.S. Marine, died unexpectedly early Saturday, April 11, 2009, in his home. Born Sept. 29, 1955, in Greensburg, he was the son of Herman Steinman and the late Isadora Bishop Steinman. Mr. Steinman graduated in 1974 from North Clarion High School and in 1984 from Clarion University, where he received a bachelor of science degree in business management. Mr. Steinman was in the U.S. Marine Corps and served with a Marine detachment on the USS Forrestal and later as a drill instructor at Parris Island, S.C.. He also became a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army Reserve. He was married on May 29, 1976, to Shirley (Mealy) Steinman, who survives. Mr. Steinman worked as a manager of Northeast Modular Homes in Torrington, Conn., and then started Merger Homes in Salisbury, Md. He most recently helped in managing Steinman Sales Co. in Shippenville. Mr. Steinman was a member of the American Legion, the Pulaski Club of Oil City, the VFW, the Oil City Elks Lodge, the PNA Club and the Loyal Order of Moose. He also was involved in the Clarion County Foster Care program. He was an active member of the Clarion Community Theatre and was in several productions at the Sawmill Theatre. His hobbies included attending sprint car races with his son, Brian; rodeos; horses; and spending time with his family. In addition to his wife and father, Mr. Steinman is survived by three sons, Mathew D. Steinman and his wife, Marci, of Knox, Brian E. Steinman of Lucinda and Patrick Steinman of Tionesta; and three grandchildren, Chase, Brooke and Taylor, all of Knox Also surviving are a brother, Donald Steinman; and two sisters, Dorene Jones of Tionesta and Diane Hudson of Venus. Mr. Steinman was preceded in death by his mother, Isadora Steinman. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m today at the Faller Funeral Home of Fryburg. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Tom Cangelo, pastor of Shamburg Church of God in Pleasantville, presiding. Reed Thompson, 94, of Grove Manor, formerly of Barkeyville, a veteran of World War II, passed away Sunday, April 12, 2009. He was the oldest resident of Barkeyville Borough. Born April 1, 1915, in Cherry Township, Butler County, he was the son of Melvin A. and Lydia Kerr Thompson. He graduated from Plain Grove High School in 1932. He was married Aug. 31, 1941, to the former Sara E. Duffy, who preceded him in death in May 1968. He retired as a welder from Greenville Steel Car. He also had worked at Pittsburgh Limestone in Boyers and in many local strip mines as a welder. In addition, he operated Thompson's Store and Esso station in Barkeyville for 17 years. Mr Thompson was a member of Barkeyville Church of God. As a veteran of World War II, he served in the Army from 1941 to 1945 and was a member of the 29th Division, actively participating in the invasion of Omaha Beach and Normandy. He received a Purple Heart for the injuries he incurred. He was a member of the first Barkeyville Borough Council, also serving as president of the government body. He also was a member of the National Rifle Association, the Harrisville American Legion post, the 29th Division Purple Heart/Disabled American Veterans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is survived by two daughters, Brenda Surrena and husband, Guy, and Becky Cratty, all of Barkeyville; a nephew, Fred Duffy and his wife, Judy, of Barkeyville; a sister, Alta Kamerer of New Castle; four grandchildren, Shanan Holtz and her husband, Frank, of Bloomington, Ill, Todd Surrena and his wife, Michelle, of Kent, Ohio, Aaron Cratty and his wife, Stacie, of Parrish, Fla., and Amber Cratty of Taylorsville, N.C. Also surviving are four great -grandchildren, Claudia and Reed Surrena and Olsen and Ensey Cratty. In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Eli and Allison Thompson; two sisters, Lois and Edna Thompson and his son-in-law, Jim Cratty, who passed away in November 2002. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Larry E. McKinley Funeral Home of Clintonville. There will be no visitation. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Clintonville Methodist Cemetery. The Rev. Rob Guy of the Barkeyville Church of God will officiate.
