Schreckengost, New Bethlehem Ruth Lynn Vereb, School Street, Bruin Eleanor Dufford Sechler Gary, 95, of Conneaut, Ohio, passed away Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009, at Inn Conneaut Health Center, Parish Road, Conneaut, Ohio. Born Aug. 15, 1913, in Clintonville, she was a daughter of John Albert Dufford and Ruth Riddle Dufford Marsteller. She was a graduate of Clintonville High School and of a two-year secretarial course at Grove City College, Grove City, which she completed in 1933. After college, she worked at Polk State School in Polk as a secretary for six years. She moved to Ashtabula, Ohio, in 1949, and married Forrest C. Gary in 1965, moving to Florida in 1974. She moved to Conneaut, Ohio, from Florida in 1988. While living in Ashtabula, she was a long-time member of First Covenant Church and worked for more than 14 years for Union Carbide Corp. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Conneaut, Ohio, OES Rose Chapter, and several civic clubs in Conneaut. She was also a volunteer in the gift shop at Brown Memorial Hospital. Surviving are a step-brother, Ivan Marsteller and family; and a step-sister-in-law, Amelia Marsteller; two daughters, Donna (William) Wiser of Conneaut, Ohio, and Shirley Rice of Shippensburg; three grandchildren, Vickie Yendriga, William Wiser Jr., and Christine Gallagher; and four great-grandchildren, Samantha and Megan Yendriga, Jordan Wiser and Delaney Gallagher. She is also survived by two step-daughters, Mary (Dean) Hommes and Katherine (Howard) House; five step-grandchildren; and other great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a step-brother, Emmett Marsteller; and a step-sister, Janet Marsteller. The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday in the the Larry E. McKinley Funeral Home, 109 Emlenton St., Clintonville. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Jonathan Singer, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Conneaut, Ohio, officiating. Online condolences may be made at www.mckinleyfuneralhome.net. James A. Ketner, 80, of 17449 Route 68, Sligo, died at 11:45 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009, at Clarion Hospital. Born Nov. 28, 1928, in Monroe Township, he was a son of Harry E. and Helen Coleman Ketner. Mr. Ketner was a Monroe Township supervisor for 43 years, having served from 1960 to 2003 as road master and secretary-treasurer. He also served as chairman of the Clarion County Housing Authority for 37 years. Mr. Ketner also operated a small family farm that had been in the Ketner family for more than 100 years. He was a member of Monroe Chapel United Methodist Church, near Reidsburg, where he was the administrative council chairman from 1981 to 2002. He enjoyed farming and spending time with his family. He was married March 22, 1958, to the former Lois Jean Heller, who preceded him in death June 8, 2004. He is survived by a son and his wife, Steve and Charla Ketner of Sligo; three grandchildren, Elizabeth, Daniel and Rebekah; a brother, Harry E. Ketner Jr. of Warren, Ohio; a brother-in-law, Richard Gourley and his fiancée, Stephanie Heeter, of Sligo; a sister-in-law, Margy Krenitsky and husband, Ron, of Butler; a niece, Cheryl Baxter of Kinsman, Ohio; and a nephew, Harry E. Ketner III of Warren, Ohio. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Varner Funeral Home in Sligo. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Monroe Chapel United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Jerry and Clara Belloit, former pastors, officiating. Niederriter, 88, of Marble passed away Friday afternoon, Feb. 20, 2009, at Magee Women's Hospital in Pittsburgh. Born July 15, 1921, in Shippenville, she was the daughter of Frank J. and Bertha Eisenman Hartle. She graduated from Shippenville High School and attended Spencer School of Nursing in Meadville. She was employed at the Purinton Pottery in Shippenville, the former Gabreski Convalescent Home in Clarion, and in the maternity ward of the old Clarion Hospital. Georgia was a member of St. Michael Church in Fryburg. She was married on Oct. 30, 1946, by Monsignor Theobald to Bob Niederriter,who preceded her in death Nov. 24, 1987. Mrs. Niederriter is survived by two children, Patricia Bauer and husband, John, of Lucinda, and Christopher Niederriter of Shippenville; a sister, Hilda Crusan of Golden Living Center in Shippenville; and three sisters-in-law, Sally Niederriter of Orlando, Fla., Ethel Zacherl of New Port Ritchey, Fla., and Emma Lou Selker and her husband, Albert, of Clarion. Mrs. Niederriter was the youngest of 13 children. The Hartle family in birth order are: Margaret Baker, Harry (Dewey) Hartle, Chloetilda Weaver, Raymond Hartle, Walter (Jack) Hartle, Irvin (Pat) Hartle, Theodore (Sam) Hartle, Ambrose Hartle, Louise Uhl, Hilda Crusan, Cletus (Bialer) Hartle, Henretta Ochs, and Georgia Niederriter. All her siblings preceded her in death except Hilda Crusan. According to her request, there will be no public viewing. A memorial Mass is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday, March 7, 2009, at St. Michael Church, with the Rev. David Poulson, pastor, presiding. Born Nov. 10, 1917, in Westmoreland County, she was a daughter of Elmer Sphon and Minnie Welch Sphon. She was raised by her uncle and aunt, Harry and Stella Jackson. Mrs. Sandok did typing and clerical work for Allegheny County before she retired. She was a member of Rocky Grove Avenue Presbyterian Church. She was married May 3, 1940, to Paul Sandok, who preceded her in death. Surviving are a son and his wife, James H. and Judith Sandok of Franklin; three grandchildren, Megan Ann Yeager and her husband, Adam, of Franklin, Elissa Ann Sandok of Franklin and Kelly Ann Sandok of Franklin, a student at the University of Pittsburgh in Johnstown; one great-grandson, Ryan James Sandok; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Albert Sphon, Elmer Sphon, Henry Sphon and Nicholas Sphon; and four sisters, Isabele Monnich, Madeine Quissner, Ethel Tisch and Valetta Marenz. Born June 8, 1938, in Homestead, Allegheny County, she was the only child of J. Kenneth Thomson and Marie Helen Horey Thomson. Mrs. Vereb was a 1956 graduate of Munhall High School and then earned a bachelor's of science degree at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a master's of education at Clarion University. She taught elementary education in the Karns City School District for 25 years, retiring in 2001. Mrs. Vereb was a member of the Bruin United Methodist Church and the Order of Eastern Star, Parker City Chapter No. 60. Surviving are two sons, M. James Vereb and wife, Peggy, of Joshua, Texas, and Matthew D. Vereb and wife, Penny, of Rimersburg; and two daughters, M. Christine Stroup and husband, Christopher V., of Valencia, and Susan L. Vargo and husband, Matthew A., of Chattanooga, Tenn. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Kara Stroup of Valencia, Allison Vargo, Samantha Vargo and Jessica Vargo, all of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Noah and Truman Vereb, both of Rimersburg; an aunt considered a sister, LaVerne Sullivan of Munhall; and her loving yellow Lab companion, Cassie. The last surviving member of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter; Lindsay Marie Stroup on May 26, 1986.
