Banner, Fryburg Joseph Michael Finland, Knox Clyde Matson Jr., Lakeview Drive, Strattanville (Fisher) Dolores McCracken, Arizona, formerly of Franklin Emma Lou Blum Williams, Buffalo Street, Franklin Cletus H. Banner, 82, of Fryburg, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009, at UPMC Northwest in Seneca following a short illness. He was born Aug. 19, 1926, to Frank and Maude Weaver Banner, and he was a lifelong resident of the Fryburg area. Mr. Banner was a graduate of Shippenville High School. After graduation he joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Saipan during World War II. He was married June 9, 1951, to the former Rose Brown, who preceded him in death Nov. 27, 2003. Mr. Banner was a member of St. Michael Church in Fryburg. He worked at PA Neiderriter Lumber/Koppers Lumber as a lumber grader for 41 years until his retirement in 1988. He was a 61-year member of the Fryburg Sportsman's Club and was an avid hunter. Mr. Banner was also a local scrap dealer and enjoyed listening to country western music while he worked. He took great joy in spending time with his grandchildren, and he loved to reminisce about growing up surrounded by a large family. He is survived by four sons, Stephen Banner and his wife, Dianne, of Lucinda, David Banner of Fryburg, Thomas Banner and his wife, Cheryl, of Nashville, Tenn., and Robert Banner of Parker; one brother, Joseph Banner of Clarion; and one sister, Cathleen Lander of Erie. Also surviving are grandchildren Sarah Parker and her husband, Derek, of Brentwood, Jenna Banner of Erie, Amber Banner of Guys Mills, Joshua Banner of Goldsboro, N.C., Alicia Banner of Colombus, Ind., Cassandra Banner of Clayton, N.C., and Brainna Banner of Colombus, Ind. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Eugene Banner, Emma Miller, Marion Allaman, Ruth Bauer, Doris Allaman, Ron Banner, Russ Banner, Edward Banner and infant brother Bernard Banner. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Faller Funeral Home Inc. in Fryburg. A parish vigil service will be held at 3:45 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Michael Church in Fryburg with the Rev David Poulson, St. Michael pastor, as the presider. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery. The family suggests memorial be made to St. Michael Church or the Clarion-Forest VNA. Joseph Michael Finland, 67, of Knox, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009, at his residence following an illness. Born Dec. 30, 1941, in Bradford, he was a son of the late James Joseph Finland and Cora Mae Freeman. Mr. Finland married Judy Ann Buchanan, who survives. He was a truck driver for Bradford Pipe and Supply until that company closed, then he was employed in various jobs until he was affected with declining health. Mr. Finland attended Mt. Joy United Methodist Church and enjoyed hunting and spending time with his dog, Buddy. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Joseph Michael Finland and his girlfriend, Robin, of Turnip Hole, William Wesley Finland and his wife, Stacey, of Bradford, and Merle "Mike" James Finland and his girlfriend, Valarie, of Knox; and two daughters, June Marie Hunsberger of Milford, Ind., and Amy Jo Cary and her husband, Chris, of Sligo. Also surviving are six grandsons, Anthony, Dallas, John, Justin, Ronnie and Tyler; four granddaughters, Autom, Jennifer, Ashley and Jessica; one brother, James Bert Finland and his wife, Inez Mae Cramer, of Bradford; and one sister, Inez Mary Carlson of Bradford. Clyde Matson Jr., 82, of Lakeview Drive, Strattanville (Fisher), died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009, in Brookville Hospital. Born Aug. 15, 1926, in New Kensington, he was the son of Clyde H. Matson Sr. and Katherine Hepler Matson, who both preceded him in death. He married the former Marjorie A. Rifenberrick, and she preceded him in death on Jan. 29, 2008. Mr. Matson was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Fisher Methodist Church, the Strattanville American Legion post and the Tionesta Masonic Lodge. Mr. Matson is survived by two daughters, Cathleen Thleum of Clearfield and Cheryl Pius and her husband, Walter, of Detroit, Mich.; one stepson, William L. Lewis of Salem, Ohio; and one stepdaughter, Linda L. Sica and her husband, Terry, of Tuscarawas, Ohio. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Greg Matson of Erie and Jill and Kim Pius of Detroit, Mich.; three step-grandchildren, Alex Sica of Dover, Ohio, Nathan Sica of New Philadelphia, Ohio, and Jake Lewis of Doylestown, Ohio; one brother, David Matson of Clarion; two sisters, Ruby Brociouis of Clearfield and Dorothy Hannold of Fisher; a sister-in-law, Mary Matson of Fisher; and four great-grandchildren. Dolores McCracken, 79, of Arizona, formerly of Franklin, died at 10:10 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9, 2009, at the Eckstein Center, Hospice of the Valley, Scottsdale, Ariz. Born July 2, 1929, in Franklin, she was the daughter of Edward C. and Ida Wetjen Prall . Mrs. McCracken was married March 6, 1965, to Richard B. "Moose" McCracken, who preceded her in death March 17, 2003. She was a graduate of Franklin High School. Mrs. McCracken had worked in the meat department at Riverside Market for many years, and she previously worked at the A&P Grocery and at Joy. She also taught water aerobics at the YMCA. While in Franklin, she was a past president of the Franklin American Legion auxiliary and a member of the Civic League, and she was a Meals on Wheels volunteer. Mrs McCracken enjoyed living in sunny Mesa, Ariz., for the past four years. While residing at Springdale Village, she enjoyed playing cards and bingo. Surviving are five daughters, Susan Eisenklam and her husband, Peter, of Mesa, Ariz., Kathy Farmer of Anchorage, Alaska, Barbara Engles and her husband, Harry, of Oil City, Debbie Licht of Meadville and Diane Bustard of Gray, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Mrs. McCracken was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Marjorie Brubaker. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Huff Chapel, 312 W. Online condolences may be sent to www.huffchapel.com. Emma Lou Blum Williams, 83, of Buffalo Street, Franklin, died at 2:50 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009, at The Caring Place in Franklin. Born June 2, 1925, in the Oil City Hospital, she was the daughter of Benjamin Harrison and Anna Ethel Newberry Blum. She was married Nov. 29, 1945, in the Free Methodist parsonage in Oil City by the late Rev. L.J. Lindsey to Harry William Williams, who preceded her in death Nov. 22, 1993. Mrs. Williams was a 1943 graduate of Oil City High School, and upon graduation she worked at Oilwell Supply. >From 1968 until her retirement, she was a cook at Seventh Street Elementary School in Franklin. As a teenager, Mrs. Williams came to faith in Jesus Christ and faithfully served her Lord throughout her lifetime. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Franklin for more than 60 years. During her many years there, she served as a deaconess, Sunday school teacher, Bible school worker, Sunday School superintendent, board member, sang in the choir and provided special music and special readings on many occasions. In her later years, she made phone calls to shut-ins and was in charge of the card ministry to members and friends of the church. Mrs. Williams will be remembered for her friendliness, kindness, compassion and sense of humor. She was a devoted, godly mother and grandmother and treasured the time she spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Williams is survived by four children, Gary L. Williams and his wife, Marilyn, of Oil City, David L. Williams and his wife, Donna, of West Windsor, N.J., Mark E Williams and his wife, Dee, of Franklin, and Karen S. Myers and her husband, Dennis, of Oil City. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Bryon Williams and his wife, Maria, of Gibsonia, Todd Williams and his wife, Mandy, of Franklin, Ashley Cayce and her husband, Stephen, of Fayetteville, N.C., Andrew Williams of West Windsor, N.J., Frank White (foster grandson) and his wife, LeeAnn, of Oil City, Danielle Myers of Oil City, Kaylene Yoder and her husband, Shawn, of Seaford, Del., Joel Myers of Oil City, Tyler Myers of Oil City, David Williams and his wife, Sara, of Franklin, Ryan Williams and his wife, Tori, of Franklin, and Scott Williams and his wife, Kelley, of Franklin; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by a brother, Glen Edward Blum; and a sister, Mary Ellen Beck. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
