    3. The Derrick, February 9, 2009: Robert E. Harley, Kennerdell Lillian J. (McDowell) McIntosh, Nugent Convalescent Home, formerly of Franklin Leo R. "Barney" Rupp, South Bethlehem Rexford A. Sutton, Titusville Elizabeth Jane Tarr, Sugar Creek Station, previously of 307 Front St., Franklin Burton E. Ware, Fairview Manor, Fairview, formerly of Franklin Getting it right - Louella Irene Mong Getting it right - Wayne C. Morgan Robert E. Harley, 85 of Kennerdell, died at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009, at UPMC Northwest in Seneca. Born Sept. 10, 1923, in Apollo, he was a son of John H. and Mary Ellen Boyd Harley. Mr. Harley spent his early life in West Monterey and graduated from Rockland High in 1942. He was employed for more than 30 years at the J&L Steel Works in Oil City and later at Van Huffel Tube, retiring from there in 1985. He was a member of the Franklin VFW and the Rockland Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. He was of the Protestant faith. He was married on Feb. 20, 1946, to the former Betty Jane Barr, who survives. They would have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary this month. In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Linda Fox and her husband, Richard, of Kennerdell; two sons, John Harley and his wife, Marie, of Ashtabula, Ohio, and Robert B. Harley of Kennerdell; a step-son, Gary L. Harley and his wife, Karla, of Jekyll Island, Ga.; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Betty Jane Olsen; two brothers, James H. Harley and Howard B. Harley; and three sisters, Irene Kepple, Laura Feltenberger and Florence Hogan Barger. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Huff Chapel, 312 W. Park St., Franklin. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Shawn Goodwin, pastor of the Rockland United Methodist, church officiating. (McDowell) McIntosh, 100, passed away Sunday Feb. 8, 2009, in the Nugent Convalescent Home. She previously resided with her family in Hermitage for six years and for nine years in Franklin. Born Nov. 13, 1908, in Turtle Creek, she was a daughter of John and Edna Schultz McDowell. During World War II she worked as an accountant for Westinghouse Airbrake in Wilmerding. She enjoyed participating with the election board in Elliott, the 20th Ward of Pittsburgh. She was a member of the Emanuel United Methodist Church in Pittsburgh, where she participated in church activities and was involved with a child care center. In recent years she was a member of the Christ Ambassador Sunday school class of Christ United Methodist Church, Franklin. She was married to John L. McIntosh, who preceded her in death in 1975. Surviving are a daughter, Laura E. Holste and her husband, Dr. David A. Holste, pastor of Hickory United Methodist Church, Hermitage; two granddaughters, Karen L. Cross and her husband, Jeffrey S. Cross, of Seneca and Martha A. Hoover and her husband, Thomas J. Hoover, of Seneca; and four great-grandchildren, Morgan and Adam Cross and Benjamin and Genevieve Hoover, all of Seneca. Also surviving is a sister, Edna May Eversole of Grand Rapids, Mich.; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Myrtle Laing; and two brothers, Frederick and John D. McDowell. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Huff Chapel, 312 W. Park St., Franklin. On-line condolences may be sent to the family at www.huffchapel.com. Leo R. "Barney" Rupp, 82, of South Bethlehem, died Saturday afternoon, Feb. 7, 2009, at his residence. Born Dec. 6, 1926, in Putneyville, he was a son of Marlin Rupp and Stella Mae Smith Rupp. A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Rupp was a truck driver for McCauley Trucking, retiring in 1990. He was a member of the First Church of God in New Bethlehem. He was also a member of the Walter Craig Post # 354 of the American Legion in New Bethlehem and the F&AM # 522 of New Bethlehem. Mr. Rupp enjoyed golfing, hunting and fishing, but most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends. He was first married to Donna J. Rupp, who preceded him in death Oct. 31, 1999. He later married Ethel Copenhaver Hoover on Dec. 25, 1994, and she survives. Survivors also include five sons, Stanley Dean Horne and his wife, Tonya, of New Bethlehem, Leo K. Rupp and friend, Roseanne, of Fairmount City, Marlin L. Rupp and his wife, Lucy, of Hawthorn, Stephen M. Rupp and his wife, Teena, of South Bethlehem and Paul E. Rupp of Georgia; a daughter, Yvonne Buzard of Fairmount City; two step-sons Larry and Mark Hoover; and two step-daughters, Caroline LaBorde and Dianna Marx. Also surviving are a brother, Stanley T. Rupp of California; a sister, Edith Weaver of Limestone; and 16 grandchildren, Matthew Horne, Mary Bowser, Maggie Edmonds, David Rupp, Amy Fenstermaker, Pride Buzard, Cori Bowser, Clark Rupp, Megan Harmon, Seth Rupp, Kellie Guntrum, Joey Rupp, Samantha Rupp, Michael Tyler Rupp, Zachary Rupp and Rona Shumaker. Among his survivors are 28 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; 10 step-grandchildren; 16 step-great-grandchildren; four step-great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Tracy L. Rupp; two brothers, Howard D. and Paul E. Rupp; a sister, Esther Shumaker; and a granddaughter, Jodi Dean, on Nov. 2, 2008. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 Tuesday at the Bish Memorial Funeral Home, 206 S. St., New Bethlehem, and from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Church of God in New Bethlehem. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the church with the Rev. John Phillips, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery. The family suggests memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society. Rexford A. Sutton, 51, of Titusville, died at 6:18 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, 2009, in the Presbyterian Home of Oil City. Born Aug. 29, 1957, in Titusville, he was the son of the late Floyd Franklin and Betty Jane Proper Sutton. Mr. Sutton attended public schools in Titusville. He was of the Protestant faith and attended the Calvary Temple Church of Oil City. He enjoyed being outdoors and also enjoyed playing chess. Surviving are his wife, Karen Heighley Sutton, of Knox; brothers and sisters, James Rumzie and wife, Doreen, of Townville, Theodore Rumzie and wife, Ginger, of Michigan, Bonnie Stover and husband, Barry, of Seneca, Larry Sutton and wife, Pam, of Oil City, Cathy Drusko and husband, Joe, of Kennerdell, Jack Sutton of Diamond, Paul Sutton of Titusville, and Connie Sutton of Shippenville. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Everett Sutton; and a sister, Debra Sutton. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the Calvary Temple Church, 14 Harriot Avenue, Oil City, with the Rev. Rudy Rimer, officiating. Elizabeth Jane Tarr, 70, of Sugar Creek Station, 351 Causeway Drive, Franklin, previously of 307 Front St., died at 8:40 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009, at Sugar Creek Station. Born Feb. 24, 1938, in Oil City, she was a daughter of Raymond and Mary Koziara Staron. Mrs. Tarr was employed as a cashier at Shop 'N Save, Comet, Big Lots and Sears. She also worked as a nurses aide at Sugar Creek Station and baby-sat in her home. She was a member of St. Patrick Church. Mrs. Tarr was also a member of the Moose Club and held several offices in the Women of the Moose. She was active in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts and was a PTA member. She was married Oct. 25, 1958, to Richard D. Tarr, who preceded her in death. She is survived by her mother, Mary Koziara Staron, a resident of Golden Living Center; and three children, Kevin Tarr and his wife, Cynthia, of Oil City, Michael Tarr of St. Petersburg and Pamela Tarr Garren and her husband, Kenneth Garren Sr., of Rocky Grove. Survivors also include seven grandchildren, Tyler Garren, Shawn Tarr, Abigail Tarr, Nicole Walters and her husband, George Jr., Kevin Cartney, Jonathan Cartney and Jacob Cotherman; one great-grandchild, George Walters III; and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. In addition to her father and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Joan Staron; and a brother, Richard Staron. Burton E. Ware, 81, a resident of Fairview Manor, Fairview, formerly of Franklin, passed away Saturday Feb. 7, 2009, at the Millcreek Community Hospital. Born Dec. 9, 1927, in Oklahoma City, Okla., he was a son of the late Burton H. and Mattie Ellis Ware. He attended school in Texas and later in Crawford County. He had played in the Horseman School Band in Pampa, Texas, and in the Colestock (Titusville) High School band. He had worked as a farmer and then at Struthers Wells and Joy Manufacturing Co., retiring in 1989. A veteran, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. ware moved to Erie in 2004. Survivors include his sister, Jane Seely and her husband, Melvin, of Erie; a niece, Elaine Buckel and her husband, John, of McKean; a nephew, Daniel Seely and his wife, Angela, of Corry; and several great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Brugger Home for Funerals, 1595 W. 38th St., Erie. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Among her survivors is a grandson, Kenneth R. Haylett. Getting it right - Wayne C. Morgan Wayne C. Morgan, 85, of 436 Sugarcreek Drive, Franklin, died at 1:50 p.m. Thursday. Feb. 5, 2009, at UPMC Northwest, Seneca. A veteran of World War II, Mr. Morgan served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1946. Among his survivors is a grandson, Joseph Morgan Jr. of Winston-Salem, N.C.
