    3. The Derrick, December 8, 2008: Thomas Burns McCauley, Oil City Geraldine O. Master, Perry Township, Parker June A, Proper, 1252 Wallaceville Road, Titusville James R. Schumacher, 608 Moran St., Oil City Lawrence H. Tompkins, 306 Orange St., Oil City Thomas Burns McCauley, 57, of Oil City, passed away Saturday evening, Dec. 6, 2008, in his home after a courageous battle with cancer. Born March 8, 1951, in Oil City, he was a son of Henry J. and Frances M. Friggle McCauley. Thomas, a successful businessman, made his home in Oil City and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was an ASME-certified mechanical engineer. Thomas was a member of Petrolia Lodge 363 F&AM, the Venango Lodge of Perfection and the Shriners of North America. He attended St. Stephen Church with his wife of six years, Estela Perez McCauley, who survives. In addition to both his parents and wife, he is survived by his children, Dawn M. Hunter and husband, Don, Erin L. Walters and husband, John, Jeromy Ritchey and wife, Melissa, Thomas J. McCauley and Samantha M. McCauley; eight grandchildren, and one step-granddaughter, all of whom he loved deeply. Also surviving are a brother, Dennis S. McCauley and fiancée, Sharon Heckathorne; a sister, Galla A. Vogan and husband, Kenneth; two half-brothers, Charles and Henry McCauley; a half-sister, Linda Eisenman; and three nieces. Thomas was preceded in death by a daughter, Michelle L. McCauley; a grandson, Stephen Hunter; and grandmothers, Goldie Friggle and Ethel McCauley. Friends may pay their respects from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Morrison Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Thomas Phillips officiating. Interment will be in Plumer Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Shriners Hospital. Geraldine O. Master, 85, of Perry Township, Parker, passed away Friday evening, Dec. 5, 2008, following an illness at the residence of her daughter at West Monterey, surrounded by her loving family. Born Oct. 6, 1923, in Perry Township, Clarion County, she was the daughter of the late Chester R. and Cora E. Gallagher McCoy. She was employed in the packaging department by the former Glass Containers Corp. of Parker for well over 20 years, where she was also a member of the GMP union. She was a lifelong member of the Church of God, first at the former Dutch Hill Church of God, and then after the merger, she was an active member of the Park Hill Church of God at West Freedom. She was one of the founders of the Monday morning prayer group for the women of the church. She worked in the nursery for years, volunteered with day care, and was always a member of the Women of the Church of God. She was a natural artist with various painting media and painted logging and circular saws with country scenes, far too many to mention. She enjoyed music, and in her late fifties, decided to embark upon learning to play the piano. Listening to music, decorating cakes she baked and watching boxing on TV were a few of her favorite pastimes. But, her favorite pastime of all was spending quality time with her all the members of her devoted family. Surviving are her daughter, Penny Master Larkin and fiancé, Will Symonds, of West Monterey; two sons and their wives, Wiley Jack Master and Sandy of Chicora and Rocky J. Master and Margie of Dutch Hill; and a sister and her husband, Dorothy McCoy Anthony and John "Banjo" of Dutch Hill. Survivors also include five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren ; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Wade McCoy in 1984 and Thomas "Tom" McCoy in 2008. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the H. Jack Buzard Funeral Home, Wayne Street, Parker, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Park Hill Church of God, Lime Plant Road, West Freedom. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the church with staff of the Church of God officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery at Dutch Hill. June A. Proper, 85, of 1252 Wallaceville Road, Titusville, died at 1:20 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, 2008, at the Titusville Area Hospital. Born Jan. 26, 1923, in Oil City, she was a daughter of the late Vance and Nellie Strayer Van Horn. Mrs. Proper was a 1942 graduate of Oil City High School. She was also a graduate of the Barbizon Modeling School in New York City. She had worked as secretary and notary at Proper's Used Cars in Dempseytown. She also worked at General Electric during World War II. Mrs. Proper was a life member of the Wallaceville United Methodist Church, where she was secretary of the Ladies Aid. She was a charter member of the Oakland Township Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and of the Chapmanville-Diamond Homemakers. She enjoyed collecting antique pictures, combs, jewelry, postcards, and sea shells on her trips to Florida. She also enjoyed scrapbooking, crafts, and making jewelry trees. She was married Jan. 18, 1947, to Wayne E. Proper, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Gary R. Proper and his wife, Joyce, and Randy L. Proper and his wife, Cheryl, all of Dempseytown; two grandsons, Eric Proper of Naples, Fla., and Aaron Proper of Latrobe. Survivors also include two granddaughters, Randi Hibbard and husband, Chris, of Dempseytown, and Ricki Proper, a student a Mercyhurst College in Erie; a great-granddaughter, Kaylee Hibbard; a brother-in-law, Gerald Proper and wife, Grace, of Oil City; and two nieces, Joyce Schwindt of Meadville and Sherry Shawgo of Franklin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a half brother, Virl Kaen; and a niece, Robin Deemer. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St., Titusville. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Wallaceville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Earl Dykes, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the Dempseytown Lutheran Cemetery. The family asks that memorials be made to the Wallaceville United Methodist Church or to the charity of one's choice. James R. Schumacher, 85, of 608 Moran St., Oil City, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, Dec. 5, 2008. Born May 24, 1923, in East Brady, he was the son of the late Loretta C. Schumacher-Gibson. He attended East Brady High School, where he played quarterback, never missing a practice for four years and was elected captain of his team in his senior year. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1949 with a bachelor's of science degree in business administration. A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps with the 446th Bomb Squadron, 321st Bomb Group of the 12th Air Force in the Mediterranean Theater as a radio operator/gunner on a B-25 Bomber. He received a number of decorations and medals and was honorably discharged in 1945. Mr. Schumacher moved to Oil City and worked at Oil Well Supply from 1950 to 1959 and then at Worthington Corporation before joining the Social Security Administration, from which he retired after 26 years of service. He was a member of St. Stephen Roman Catholic Church, where he served as an usher and was a former member of the St. Stephen Holy Name Society and an original member of the Legion of Mary. Mr. Schumacher loved the Lord and was always willing to share his faith with everyone. He had a devotion to the rights of the unborn and worked continually on their behalf. Mr. Schumacher dearly loved his family and was very devoted to them. He enjoyed time spent with his family and especially enjoyed his great-grandchildren and thought the world of them. He also had a wonderful group of friends with whom he attended prayer meetings as well as his friends he joined regularly for morning coffee at McDonald's. Mr. Schumacher always had a passion for football and was an avid Notre Dame fan and also followed the Steelers and Penn State teams. He was married June 6, 1949, to the love of his life, the former Elma Magrini, who preceded him in death March 24, 1998. Surviving are a daughter, Linda Lewis and her husband, Robert, of Knox, a son, Robert Schumacher and his wife, Deborah, of Oil City, and a daughter, Marci Schumacher of Oil City; five grandchildren, Jamie Lewis and his wife, Melanie, of Mars, Traci Blazosky and her husband, Ryan, of Knox, and Michael, Patrick and Eric Schumacher, all of Oil City; and three great-grandchildren, Jayden and Gavin Blazosky and Ava Lewis. He is also survived by three sisters-in-law, Rose Schumacher of East Brady, Victoria Pfaff and her husband, Max, of Union City and Ann Magrini of Clarion; a brother-in-law, Duane Bashline of Clarion; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife of 49 years, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Johnny Schumacher of East Brady and Frank Gibson of Butler; and three sisters, Rosemary Schumacher of East Brady, Mary Carolyn (Pat) Walker of Butler and Anita Ann Wimer of Florida. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Morrison Funeral Home, 110 Petroleum St., Oil City. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. Stephen Roman Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Brandon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to St. Stephen School or the American Heart Association. Lawrence H. Tompkins, 85, of 306 Orange St., Oil City, died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2008, at the V.A. Medical Center in Erie following an extended illness. The Reinsel Funeral Home of Oil City is in charge of arrangements. A complete obituary will be published Tuesday in The Derrick.
