Rowe, Nickleville RD, Knox William E. Wigren, Oil City Cindy Wolf, Medina, Ohio, formerly of Clarion Cyral Jay "Jay" Croyle Sr., 83, of Jay Lane, Karns City, died at 8:40 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, 2008, at the Chicora Medical Center, Chicora, after a lingering illness. Born Oct. 15, 1925, in Butler County, he was a son of the late Charlie Croyle and Susie Roudebush Croyle. Mr. Croyle was a former member of the Karns City Church of God of Prophecy and later attended the Six Points Church of God of Prophecy. He attended the Fairview Township/Karns City High School. He and his wife enjoyed camping and were former members of the Clarion County Campers for 16 years. They also camped at Deer Hunters Campground in Harrisville and at Ponderosa Park in Salem, Ohio. Mr. Croyle was the Democratic committeeman in Karns City for a number of years. His working career included R.O. Murphy Coal Co., highway superintendent for PennDOT in northern Butler County and assignment as postmaster in Karns City for two years. He and his wife operated Croyle's Market in Karns City for a number of years. Mr. Croyle was employed later at Penreco in Karns City as a boiler fireman for 20 years, retiring in 1988. He was married Dec. 24, 1945, in Rimersburg by Rev. Young to the former Isabelle A. Corbett who survives. Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Bishop C. Jay Croyle Jr. and his wife Bess of Foxburg and Charles A. Croyle and his wife Tammy of Chicora; three daughters, Marlene Burke and her husband Leo F. of Karns City, Brenda J. King and her husband John P. of Karns City and Connie M. King and her husband Duane of Oil City; a sister, Waunda J. Crispen of Huey; 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death in addition to his parents were five brothers, John Croyle, Joseph R. "Dick" Croyle, George Croyle, Randall Croyle and infant Gordon Croyle and one grandson. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Richard D. Hillis Funeral Home in Petrolia. Friends will also be received from 10 a.m. until time of funeral services Monday at the Six Points Church of God of Prophecy. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the church. Officiating will be Mr. Croyle's son, Bishop C. Jay Croyle Jr., state overseer of the Church of God of Prophecy of Pennsylvania, and Rev. E. L. Croyle, pastor of the Sylacauga Church of God of Prophecy in Sylacauga, Ala. Private interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery at Chicora. Constance "Connie" Davis 71, of 1028 West Second St., Oil City, died Friday morning, Dec. 5, 2008, at DuBois Regional Medical Center after an extended illness. Born June 10, 1937, in Emlenton, she was the daughter of the late Harold Hewitt and Edna Zillifro Hewitt-Davis. She attended St. Stephen and Oil City schools. She was married Sept. 15, 1961, in Winchester, Va., to Herbert E. Davis, and he preceded her in death June 3, 2002. Mrs. Davis had been co-owner of Tri-County Window Washing with her late husband for more than 40 years. She was a member of St. Stephen Church in Oil City. Connie bowled on Thursdays with the Pulaski Pussycats and in the Tuesday night league at Seneca Lanes. She also enjoyed golfing at Cross Creek. She is survived by two daughters, Cynthia Davis Bowser and her husband, Tom, of DuBois, and Lisa Davis-Heasley and her husband, Kim, of Oil City; seven grandchildren, Taylor, Cheyanne, Nathan and Joseph Bowser, and Shannan, Christopher and Aaron Heasley; two stepbrothers, Robert and Janice Davis of Oil City and Dan and Kathy Davis of Oil City; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister, Edna Downs; one brother, Don Hewitt; and her stepfather, Robert Davis. Mr. Filipowski was born in Oil City on Feb. 7, 1935, the son of the late Frank and Mary Pachlita Filipowski. On Oct. 25, 1975, Frank married Virginia Proper, and she survives. He was a member of Assumption BVM Church in Oil City. Frank retired from Meadville Medical Center, where he had been employed as a courier. He previously had been employed by Saegertown Manufacturing and the former Grants Feed Store of Meadville as a small engine mechanic. Following his 1952 graduation from Oil City High School, Frank entered the U.S. Air Force, where he honorably served his country during the Korean Conflict as well as the Vietnam Conflict before his retirement as a master sergeant in 1974. An avid sportsman, Frank was a member of the Black Ash Sportsman's Club. He was also a member of VFW Post 2006 and a former member of the Meadville Elks. Frank is survived by one daughter, Amy J. Filipowski of Meadville; two sisters, Helen Fischer and her husband, Robert, of Meadville, and Adeline Sullenger of Midvale, Utah; one brother, Edward R. Filipowski and his wife, Lois M., of Dempseytown; and nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by two sisters, Kathryn Say and Anna Jane Wermlinger. Private services will be held at the Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, with the Rev. John Barger officiating. Rowe, 88, of Nickleville RD, Knox, died suddenly at his home Thursday afternoon, Dec. 4, 2008. Born Oct. 6, 1920, on the family farm in Beaver Township, Clarion County, he was the son of the late Lester and Eunice Heeter Rowe. Bob was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was a gradute of White Memorial High School in Knox. In January 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and served in the India-China-Burma Theatre. He was discharged in 1946, and for the remainder of his life he never traveled far from home as he had seen enough of the world with the Army. Bob worked for a time with Knox Glass and then worked for Columbia Gas for 31 years until his retirement. He was a lifelong and faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church at Knox RD, where he served on council several times. Bob loved the outdoors, especially gardening, hunting, fishing and just "puttering." He was a voracious reader of history books, and he was honored as a 50-year voter, a matter of responsibility and pride to him. On Oct. 29, 1946, he married Bernice Ritchey, and she survives. They celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary in October. He is also survived by one daughter, Mary Kathryn Wise and her husband, Daniel, of Ninevah; one son, Robert W. Rowe II and his wife, Darlene, of Lewisburg; six grandchildren, Robert W. Rowe III of Hutchinson, Kan., Steven F. Rowe of Harrisburg, Brian E. Rowe and his wife, Kim, of Lewisburg, Jeffrey A. Rowe and his wife, Julie, of York, Jenna A. Rowe, a student at Shippensburg University, and D. Clark Wise, a student at Gannon University; 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by six brothers, Gerald A. Rowe, John F. Rowe, Ivan L. Rowe, George E. Rowe, Richard Rowe and Carl K. Rowe; and one sister, Dorothy A. Rowe. Wigren, 63, a lifelong resident of Oil City, passed away Thursday, Dec. 4, 2008, at UPMC Northwest in Seneca. Born March 3, 1945, in Oil City, he was a son of Edward H. and Mildred Shreve Wigren. Mr. Wigren was a graduate of Oil City High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served from 1965 to 1969 as a radioman. Mr. Wigren attended the Pittsburgh Technical Institute and received an associate degree in drafting and design technology. He was employed at Joy Technologies from 1969 until his death. Mr. Wigren was a "Ham" radio operator and enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family, especially his grandson, Sam. On April 23, 1966, he married the former Nancy Reagle, who survives. In addition to his wife, he is also survived by two sons, Todd Wigren and his wife, Pamela, of Oil City, and Justin Wigren and his fiancee, Tammy, of Seneca; and a very special grandson, Samuel Lee Wigren of Seneca. Also surviving are his mother-in-law, Geraldine K. Reagle of Seneca; a brother-in-law, Mark Reagle; two sisters-in-law, Kathy Lukasiak and her husband, Mark, and Joni Erich and her husband, Harold; two special aunts, Eva Wigren and Catherine Wigren of Edinboro; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two uncles, Donnie Wigren and Walter Wigren; and his father-in-law, Lee Reagle. Cindy Wolf, 49, of Medina, Ohio, formerly of Clarion, died unexpectedly Thursday morning, Dec. 4, 2008, at her residence. She was born March 4, 1959, in Brookville, the daughter of the late Harold Swigart and Clara Blair Swigart of Shippenville. Cindy graduated from Clarion-Limestone High School in 1975. She married Rollie Wolf on May 12, 1984, and he survives. Cindy enjoyed spending time with grandchildren and children, gardening, watching John Wayne movies and listening to music. She was a homemaker and a dedicated Christian. In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by her daughter, Shylo Neely and her husband, Al, of Ohio; her son, Mason Wolf and his wife, Stephanie, of Ohio; a stepson, Christopher Wolf of Pittsburgh; a stepdaughter, Nicole Wolf of Pittsburgh; and grandchildren Zachary Neely of Ohio, Joseph Wolf of Pittsburgh and soon to be expected Holly Marie Wolf. She is also survived by her father-in-law, George Wolf of Clarion; a brother, Ted Swigart of Tucson, Ariz.; a sister, Carol Carnahan and her husband, Doug, of Shippenville; a nephew, Kurt Carnahan and his wife, Jessica, of Knox; a niece, Bobby Joe Swigart of Arizona; and numerous other nieces and nephews and brother and sister-in-laws. She was preceded in death by her father, Harold Swigart; and her mother-in-law, Carolyn Wolf. Viewing will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home in Clarion.
