    3. The Derrick, December 1, 2008: Willard "Avery" Brown, The Caring Place, Franklin, formerly of Kennerdell Elaine E. Duffee, Treasure Lake, DuBois Peggy Lou Curry Howard, Clarion Stanley E. "Bub" Klingler, Knox RD James J. Nicklas, Warren, Pa., formerly of Marienville Steve Torzok, Horsecreek Road, Oil City, a former Clarion resident Paul E. Wilson, Knox, formerly of St. Petersburg Willard "Avery" Brown, 82, of the Caring Place, Franklin, formerly of Kennerdell, passed away at 10:45 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, at UPMC Northwest, Seneca. Born Oct. 10, 1926, in Morehead Ky., he was the son of the late Sam and Rose Brown. Mr. Brown received his education in Morehead, Ky. Mr. Brown was a logger his whole life and also cut timber for many years in the local area. He enjoyed bowling, snowmobiles, family gatherings and playing cards. Surviving are brothers, Linden Brown and wife, Darlene, of South Carolina and Paul Brown and wife, Linda, of Kennerdell; a sister, Mary Vogus and husband, Clair, of Franklin; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Evangeline Brown Ward and Ruby Brown Bopp; and three brothers, James Brown, Ralph Brown and Eugene Brown. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Larry E. McKinley Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Walter Witherup of the Seneca Assembly of God officiating. Interment will take place at the Hickory Grove Cemetery, Victory Township, Venango County. Duffee, 77, of Treasure Lake, DuBois, mother of the former pastor of the Emlenton United Methodist Church, the Rev. Kenneth Duffee, grandmother of Blaine, Sarah and Joshua Duffee, and great-grandmother of Peyton, died Saturday afternoon, Nov. 29, 2008, at Christ the King Manor, DuBois. Peggy Lou (Schall) Curry Howard, 79, of Clarion, passed away Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, at the Kittanning Armstrong County Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Her beloved family was at her side. Born Aug. 30, 1929, in Plumcreek Township, she was a daughter of Stanley and Merle (Cribbs) Schall. She was valedictorian of the class of 1947 at Elderton High School. She graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1951 and taught school in the Clarion schools for 39 years. She married J. Allen Curry, and they lived in Clarion for more than 50 years. She and her husband were world travelers. He passed away in 2002. She married Wayne Howard in 2005, and he passed away in 2008. Surviving are two sisters, Joanne Foster and husband, Charles, of Elderton, and Jane Blaney and husband, Ford, of Indiana; and a brother, Raymond Schall and his wife, Margaret, of Kittanning. Survivors also include an uncle, Victor E. Schall of Elderton; two step-children, Tom Howard and his wife, Debbie, of Cecil, and Debbie Hale and her husband, David, of Roanoke, Va.; many cousins, nieces and nephews; and special friends, Pauline Wiberg and Josephine Kuhns of Clarion and Don and Shirley Sushereba of Strattanville. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Goble Funeral Home & Crematory, 330 Wood St., Clarion, with the Rev. Robert Zilhaver officiating. "Bub" Klingler, 83, of Knox RD, died at 5 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, at his residence. Born Nov. 12, 1925, on the family farm in Salem Township, Clarion County, he was the son of the late Wylie and Violet Wenner Klingler. For many years, Bub farmed the Klingler family farm. He started driving school bus for Salem Township schools and also drove for Keystone School District for 29 years. He was a Salem Township supervisor for more than 30 years. He owned Klingler Wood and Country Tole and was renowned for his fine woodworking. He was a member of the Edenburg Lodge 550, F&AM, of Knox and was a 32nd-degree member of the Coudersport Consistory. Mr. Klingler belonged to the Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church in Fern, where he served on the board for six years. He also served on the board of directors of the Phipps Cemetery near Elmo. He enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing trips to Canada and gardening, including growing and selling strawberries. He was married Oct. 21, 1953, to Mary Etta Hartzell, who survives. The Klinglers celebrated 55 years of marriage last month. Survivors also include two daughters, Anetta Radaker and her husband, Glenn, and Patricia Klingler; and two grandchildren, Angela and Scott Radaker, all of Knox RD. Also surviving are two sisters, Joan Rowe and her husband, Carl, of Knox, and Imogene Hartzell and her husband, Ray, of Georgia; an aunt, Thelma Stewart of Fisher; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Duane Klingler. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the David C. McEntire Funeral Home, 504 E. Penn St., Knox. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Mark Micklos, pastor of the Fern Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church officiating. Interment will follow in Phipps Cemetery, Knox RD. James J. Nicklas, 67, of Warren, Pa., formerly of Marienville, died suddenly Friday, Nov. 28, 2008, at his home. Born Jan. 5, 1941, in Marienville, he was the son of James B. and Florence (Gabler) Nicklas. Mr. Nicklas was a veteran who served with the National Guard in Kane. He worked for 20 years for Marienville Glass Containers and later IKL Cabinet Builders of Marienville. He attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in Warren. He was married May 16, 1987, in Kane, to Renda Dunkle Nicklas, who survives. Survivors also include children and step-children, Mark J. Nicklas and wife, Susan, of Lake Butler, Fla., Renee Ward and husband, Richard, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Elaine Moeller of Colorado Springs; Richard Clevenger Jr. of Kane, Brenda and Dale Howard of Hazelhurst, and Benjamin and Sandra Clevenger with the U.S. Air Force in Anchorage, Ala. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, David Nicklas, Christopher Nicklas, Jacob Ward, Alexa Ward, Josh Moeller, Sean Moeller, Michael Benefield, Josh Benefield, Jessica Benefield, Alec Malcher, Daleen Howard and GeorgiAnn Howard. One sister, Lorraine Haser, of Allison Park, also survives. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Songer and Margaret Windisch. Friends and family will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Ronald McDonald Funeral Home in Marienville. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Warren, with the Rev. Walter Packard as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Crown, with the Rev. Gregory Passauer presiding. Steve Torzok, 58, of Horsecreek Road, Oil City, a former Clarion resident and former employee of Joy Manufacturing, died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, at his home after an extended illness. Paul E. Wilson, 73, of Knox, formerly of St. Petersburg, died at 2:07 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, 2008, at Clarion Hospital. Born Sept. 9, 1935, in St. Petersburg, he was a son of the late Lloyd and Dorothy Wilson. Mr. Wilson had at one time worked at the Carriage Inn in Knox. He enjoyed watching old movies and drawing and was especially fond of his dogs. He is survived by two nephews, Scott Meilutis and his wife, Melissa, and Mike Meilutis and his wife, Trixie; three great-nieces and two great-nephews, all of Knox. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Norma Smith; and two brothers, Gene and Lloyd Wilson. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. The David C. McEntire Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
