Bole, 913 Polk Cutoff, Polk Richard L. Ganoe, Iron Bridge Road, Sigel Angelina Morzano, Rocky Point, Long Island, N.Y. Virginia Eileen Piel, 351 Causeway Drive, Franklin Archie Underwood, North Main Street, Rimersburg Ella Mae Wheeling, , 1080 Patchel Run Road, Franklin Rhonda B. Ahrens, 59, of 347 Warner Road, Kennerdell, died at 10:55 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, at UPMC Northwest in Seneca. Born June 19, 1949, in Oil City, she was a daughter of Emmett and Opal Fry Blauser. Mrs. Ahrens was a graduate of West Forest High School, where she was on the championship high school cheerleading team. She attended Career Academy in Columbus, Ohio, and was currently studying to be a registered nurse at Clarion University. She had worked in the medical field and was currently working for the Visiting Nurses Association. Mrs. Ahrens was a member of the Rockland United Methodist Church. She enjoyed several card clubs and enjoyed tole painting and stained glass work. She was married Sept. 27, 1975, to James Ahrens, who survives. Also surviving are her mother, Opal Blauser of Oil City; two daughters, Ashley Ahrens, currently attending Thiel College, and Jamie Nevel and husband, Mark, of Emlenton; two grandsons, Ethan Show and Eric Nevel; and an uncle, Henry Ahrens of Oil City. She was preceded in death by her father; and an infant sister. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Morrison Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Rockland United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Shawn Goodwin and the Rev. Pat Ellis officiating. Interment will be in Heckathorn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society. Franklin Armstrong, 80, a resident of Sugar Valley Lodge, Franklin, died at 9:25 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19, 2008, at Sugar Creek Station. Born May 28, 1928, he was a son of the late Edward and Farenda Farlow Armstrong. Mr. Armstrong enjoyed spending time with his friends and peers at the personal care home and was known to have a great sense of humor. He is survived by two half-brothers, twins, George and Robert Armstrong; two half-sisters, Zelda Smith and husband, Kenneth, of Venus and Maxine Himes and husband, Lewis, of Fairmount City; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother killed in an accident at an early age; two sisters, Helen Armstrong and Dorothy Armstrong; and a half brother, Arthur Armstrong. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Morrison Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Interment will be in Tylersburg Cemetery. Virgil R. Beary, 90, of Fulton Road, Shippenville, Elk Township, Clarion County, died at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, at his home. Born May 25, 1918, in Clarion County, he was a son of John D. and Theresa Schill Beary. During World War II, Mr. Beary served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army in Iceland. He was self-employed at Beary Logging Inc. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church of Clarion. Mr. Beary was also a member of the Knights of Columbus in Clarion. He was a member of the Moose Lodge No. 101 in Clarion, where he served as governor and past governor, and was also a life member of the Legion of the Moose and received the highest degree of Moose, a pilgrim's degree. He was also a member of the Elks Club in Franklin, the American Legion Post No. 066 of Clarion, the Antler Club of Lucinda and was a life member of the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed hunting and camping, and a special trip, a three-month visit to Alaska with his wife. He was married Sept. 20, 1941, to the former Eleanor Fulton, who preceded him in death. Surviving are four children, Eileen Evans and her husband, Oliver, of Kalamazoo, Mich., Janet Williams and her husband, James, of Shippenville, James A. Beary and his wife, Fran, of Knox, and Mary Ann Saltsgiver and her husband, William, of Shippenville. Survivors also include five grandchildren, Rachel Chandler of Pawpaw, Mich., Ethan Evans of Oxford, Miss., Tiffany and Brynn Beary of Knox, and Tyrell Beary of Shippenville; and four great-grandchildren, Evan Chandler of Pawpaw, Mich., Mariah Beary of Knox, Austin Beary of Shippenville and Arianna Beary, also of Shippenville. Also surviving are three brothers, John C. Beary and his wife, Nancy, of Columbiana, Ohio, Lloyd A. "Jake" Beary and his wife, Thetus, of Clarion, and Henry A. Beary and his wife, Rita, of Knox; and two sisters, Donna Girts and her husband, Ron, of Clarion, and Abbie Porterfield and her husband, James, of Dempseytown. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Beary; and three brothers, Keith Beary, Lawrence Beary and Dennis Beary. Bole, 67, of 913 Polk Cutoff, Polk, former VNA Hospice pastor, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008, at UPMC Northwest, Seneca, following an illness. The Robert W. Gardinier Funeral Home of Franklin is in charge of arrangements. A complete obituary will be published Tuesday in the newspaper. Richard L. Ganoe, 73, of Iron Bridge Road, Sigel, departed this life Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008. Born June 28, 1935, in Clarion, he was a son of the late William E. and Cecelia V. Aaron Ganoe. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1958. Mr. Ganoe started working at Ford Motor Co. in Ohio and then co-owned and operated the Tavern in Clarion for 33 years. He then retired and was employed part-time at Kraus Sorce of Shippenville, where he enjoyed working with his co-workers for more than 15 years. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church of Clarion. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus of Clarion. He enjoyed traveling to Florida with his wife, working with the guys at Kraus Sorce, working on his farm, camping, and spending time with family and friends. He was married July 10, 1964, to the former Donna Fike, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Brian Ganoe and his wife, Roberta, of Hazen; two daughters, Jill Masters and her husband, Curt, of Strattanville, and Teresa Selker and her husband, Steve, of Shippenville. Survivors also include seven grandchildren, Mackenzie Ganoe, Bailey Ganoe, Brooke Ganoe, Regan Ganoe, Zachary Selker, Kristin Selker and Jacob Selker. Also surviving are four sisters, Mary Louise Beichner of Oil City, Dorothy J. Beichner of New Castle, Clara Marie Leicht of Kentucky and Kathleen Thompson of Clarion; and four brothers, Robert J, Ganoe of Clarion, Bernard Ganoe of Clarion, Edgar T. Ganoe of Shippenville and Raymond Ganoe of Coco Beach, Fla. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, David J. Ganoe in 1994, Leo C. Ganoe in 2005 and William E. Angelina Morzano, 98, of Rocky Point, Long Island, N.Y., grandmother of Janet Andres and great-grandmother of Jackie Paladino, both of Franklin, died at 12:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008, at a hospice on Long Island. Virginia Eileen Piel, 84, of 351 Causeway Drive, Franklin, died at 6:55 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19, 2008, at Sugarcreek Station. Born June 21, 1924, in Franklin, she was a daughter of Lester and Alice Perrine Collins. She was a 1942 graduate of Franklin High School. Mrs. Piel was a cook at the former Franklin Hospital, Venango Manor, Center Community Hospital and the Mount Nittany Center and during World War II, she worked at the Chicago Pneumatic Tool Co. and Franklin Plastics. She was also an Avon lady for many years. She was a member of the Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Franklin and taught Sunday school in the 1950s while attending the Rocky Grove Avenue Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Piel loved to sing and sang solos for the Franklin High School Broadcast, the Monday Night Musical, church, PTA and for people who would love her singing and invite her to sing at their functions. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the love of her life and meant everything to her. She enjoyed cooking and in addition to work, she cooked at CMA Church camps and made wonderful meals at home. She also enjoyed all church functions and playing board games with her kids. She was married June 19, 1944, to Ralph Piel Jr., who preceded her in death in March of 1975. Surviving are three children, Robert Piel and his wife, Susan, of Oil City, Rebecca Watson and her husband, Bob, of State College, and Deborah A. Plyler and her husband, Wayne, of Franklin. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Steve Plyler of Orlando, Fla., Lisa Allison and her husband, John, of Franklin, Jocelyn Miller and her husband, Nathan, of Canton, Mich., Alicia Grubbs and her husband, Sean, of State College, and Corey Piel of Oil City. Five great-grandchildren also survive including Nathan and Matthew Allison of Franklin, Ellis Miller of Canton, Mich., and Vanessa and Evan Grubbs, both of State College. Survivors also include a sister, Della Carter of Franklin; and a brother Wilbur Collins and his wife, Helen (who was special to Mrs. Piel), of Franklin. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Collins, and an infant brother; and a brother-in-law, Russell Carter. Archie Underwood, 84, of North Main Street, Rimersburg, passed away Friday, Dec. 19, 2008, at his home. Born Jan. 19, 1924, in Marks, Miss., he was a son of the late Archie Rhea Underwood Sr. and Maudie Mae Mayo Underwood. He graduated from high school in Melville, La., received a degree in engineering from the University of Georgia, a bachelor's degree in education from Clarion College, a master's degree in education and psychology from Western Connecticut University and a Ph.D. in education from the University of Florida. Mr. Underwood was a lieutenant with the U. S. Navy during both World War II and the Korean Conflict, served as a navy flight instructor and piloted the F4F, P2V and the F-6 jet fighter aircraft during both engagements and retired from the Navy Reserve in June 1965. Mr. Underwood served for a time as a flight instructor at the Westchester Airport in Westchester, N.Y. He was retired after being a professor of physics at Fordham University and Columbia University. He was of the Protestant faith. Mr. Underwood was a member of all Masonic orders including the Coudersport Consistory, Coudersport, and was also a member of the Pennsylvania Fraternal Order of Police and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Clarion. He was married Feb. 24, 1948, in Niles, Ohio, to the former Wilma Edwin Rennaker, who preceded him in death Sept. 3, 1999. Surviving are a daughters, Betty Elaine Underwood of Clarion; a son, Douglas Wayne Underwood and his wife, Eileen, of Danbury, Conn.; two grandchildren, Leonard Monette and his wife, Tracy, of Mount Gretna, and Lukas Monette and his wife, Sandy, of Burgettstown. Survivors also include three great-grandchildren, Gage Douglas Monette and Aurora Monette, both of Burgettstown, and Katelyn Monette of Mount Gretna; a sister, Betty Boyer and her husband, Earl, of Berlin, Pa.; and a niece, Mary Ann Boyer of Dayton, Ohio He was preceded in death by his father on Aug. 25, 1967; his mother on May 20, 1993; a sister: Doris Underwood in 1967; and a granddaughter, Heather Anne Underwood in 1997. Ella Mae Wheeling, , 71, of 1080 Patchel Run Road, Franklin, died at 12:40 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008, at her residence. Born June 20, 1937, in Meadville, she was the daughter of Lawrence C. "Sky" and Mertie McCray Ross. She was the last of her immediate family. Mrs. Wheeling was a homemaker. She was a member of the Rocky Grove Lions Club and the American Legion Auxiliary. She loved animals, flowers, cooking, bird-watching, fishing and country music. She was married Oct. 9, 1954, to Richard L. Wheeling, who preceded her in death. Surviving are two daughters, Kathy Gee and her husband, John, of Coon Rapids, Minn., and Judy Johnson of Franklin; and eight grandchildren, Scott Miller of Oil City, Nicole Walters and her husband, George, of Cooperstown, Jonathan Walton and his wife, Kelly, of Akron, Ohio, Drake Wheeling of New Hampshire, Stacy Gee of Blaine, Minn., Robert Gee of Coon Rapids, Minn., Tamala Culp and her husband, Robert, of Oil City, and Jessica Heller and her husband, Timothy Heller Sr., of Franklin. Survivors also include four great-grandchildren, Zoei Heller of Franklin, Timothy Heller Jr. of Franklin, Trevin Boltman-Gee of Tampa, Fla.; and Madelyn Kate Miller of Oil City; numerous nieces and nephews; an aunt, Fern Denbeck of Petrolia; and special friends of the family, the Dale Harry family of Franklin. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Robert E. Wheeling, in 2005; two brothers, Gaylord L. Ross and Donald E. Ross; and a sister, Beatrice C. Bevilliever.
