Strance, Albuquerque, N.M., formerly of Oil City Arthur F. Aiken Arthur F. Aiken, 89, of Corsica, died Saturday evening, Nov. 13, 2004, in the Clarion Hospital following a brief illness. Born Nov. 5, 1915, in Corsica, he was the son of Charles H. and Clarie Himes Aiken. Mr. Aiken was a retired logger. He was a member of the Pisgah Presbyterian Church in Corsica. Mr. Aiken enjoyed hunting, fishing and working on motors. He was married Jan. 23, 1941, to Hazel M. Kunselman, who died Oct. 20, 2002. Surviving are a son, James F. Aiken of Corsica; three daughters, Clarie B. Rossey of Marienville, Blanche Clinger and Janet Brosius, both of Corsica; 12 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandchild. He also is survived by a brother and his wife, Mervin P. and Jonee Aiken; and a sister, Marcilla McAnanch. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Aiken was preceded in death by a daughter, Charlotte Aiken; two sisters, Florence Bowser and Dorothy Furl; a half sister, Mary Johns; a grandson, Russell L.D. Rossey Jr.; and two great-grandchildren, Zachary Brewer and Cassandra Brosius. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today in the Furlong Funeral Home, Summerville, with the Rev. James Dietrich, officiating. Interment will be in the Lakelawn Cemetery, Reynoldsville, Jefferson County. Lowell Cramer Lowell Cramer, 81, of Clarion, died unexpectedly late Monday afternoon, Nov. 15, 2004, in the emergency room of Titusville Area Hospital. The Robert V. Robert Irwin Emmons Robert Irwin Emmons, 89, of 3735 Georgetown Road, Polk, died at 3:15 a.m. Monday, Nov. 15, 2004, in his home. Born Dec. 29, 1914, in Ashtabula, Ohio, he was the son of Charles and Violet F. Lockwood Emmons Ross. Mr. Emmons lived in the Polk area most of his life. He was employed at Polk for a number of years, retiring in 1975. He also was owner and operator of Emmons Home Furnishings in Polk. Mr. Emmons was a Protestant. He was a member of the VFW and Elks in Franklin and the Oil City Moose Club. Mr. Emmons was married April 18, 1956, to Della Isabelle Ohler, who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, two in Florida and one in California. Mr. Emmons was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Frank Emmons. There will be no visitation. Ruth Mae Steen Kenney Ruth Mae Steen Kenney, 83, of Sacramento, Calif., formerly of Oil City, a 1939 graduate of Oil City High School who had the gift of music and was an accomplished piano player, died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004, at her home. John E. Kost John E. Kost, 90, of Parker, died of natural causes at 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004, at his residence. Born June 2, 1914, in Vandergrift, he was the son of Jacob and Mary Kost. Mr. Kost entered the U.S. Army May 19, 1943, and was honorably discharged Dec. 12, 1945, with the rank of sergeant. During World War II, he earned the American Theater Ribbon, the Asiatic /Pacific Theater Ribbon with three Bronze Stars, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star, the Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Kost began a career with the former Wightman Glass & Bottling Co. in Parker, retiring in 1979 from then Glass Containers Corp. with 37 years of service. His last position was that of quality control supervisor. He was a longtime member of St. Mary Our Lady of Snows Catholic Church in Parker. Mr. Kost was a member of the American Legion Post 598 of Parker and was a life member of VFW Post 7073 of Parker. For many years he served as assistant steward of the VFW Post, assisting the managers in post operations. He also was a life member of the Parker City Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Kost was a well-known avid golfer and was a member of the Foxburg Country Club for many years. In addition to his passion for the game of golf, he was equally known for his love of vegetable and flower gardening. Surviving are his wife of 64 years, the former Blanche Fross, whom he married May 18, 1940. Also surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Thomas (Cheryl) Pearson of Austintown, Ohio; two grandchildren, Dara and Timothy Shaw, also of Austintown; three sisters; and a number of nieces and nephews. Deborah Lee McLaughlin Deborah Lee McLaughlin, 37, formerly of Oil City, died Friday, Nov. 12, 2004, at her home in Bradenton, Fla. Born Jan. 23, 1967, in Oil City, she was a daughter of Bonita J. Montgomery Kerekanich Kelley and the late Robert J. Kerekanich. Mrs. McLaughlin was employed until recently for 18 years at Animal Medical Center in Bradenton, Fla. Her life was filled with the joy of her children and their activities. Surviving are her husband, Jeffrey, and three sons, Jared, Austin and Logan, all of Bradenton, Fla.; her mother, Bonita Kelley and her husband, Al, of Bradenton; two brothers, Jim Kerekanich and wife, Kathy, of Venice, Fla., and their sons, Jim and Ken, of Bradenton, and Dennis Kerekanich of Franklin and his son, Christopher, of Palmetto, Fla., and his daughter, Stephanie, of Franklin. She also is survived by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Scott McLaughlin and family of Spartanburg, S.C., Tom McLaughlin and family of Franklin, Terri and Rick O'Neil of Chantilly, Va.; many members of the Kerekanich family; and an uncle, Robert Montgomery and family of Jacksonville, N.C. Mrs. McLaughlin was preceded in death by her father in 1974 and an infant sister, Kimberly. A committal service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel in Grove Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Rob Wilson, pastor of the Seneca United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Grove Hill Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to an organization to help children in need. Rosalie Mae Welms Riley Rosalie Mae Welms Riley, 72, of 223 Rockwood Ave., Oil City, died at 3:05 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004, in her home after a seven-month illness. Born May 9, 1932, in Oil City, she was the daughter of Charles W. and Lillian L. Hall Welms. She was a 1950 graduate of Oil City High School and had lived in the Oil City area most of her life. Mrs. Riley was employed for 12 years at Penelec and later worked for 30 years as a secretary at Quaker State. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Oil City. Mrs. Riley enjoyed traveling and spending time with her grandchildren. She was married June 20, 1963, to John H. Riley, who survives. Also surviving are a son and his wife, John C. and Julie Wise Riley of Oil City; three grandchildren, Jack Riley of Ford City, Mackensie Brynn Riley and Brennah Morgan Riley, both of Pittsburgh; a sister-in-law, Jayne Robison and husband, Basil, of Tavares, Fla.; and two nieces, Deborah Myers of Cochranton and Kimberly Myers of Erie. Mrs. Riley was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Carl J. Welms and William W. Welms. Sanford, 76, of 118 Lowry Court Drive, Franklin, died at 2:40 a.m. Monday, Nov. 15, 2004, in The Caring Place. Born Oct. 27, 1928, in Carlisle, she was the daughter of James and Dorothy Duttry. Mrs. Sanford drove bus for Baker's Transportation and worked as a front desk clerk at the Voyager Inn. She was a homemaker and enjoyed playing bingo and country music. Mrs. Sanford was married Jan. 26, 1958, to Norman "Lee" Sanford, who died Aug. 10, 1974. Surviving are three daughters, Susan Cancilla and her boyfriend, David Pegg, Sherry Wilson and husband, John, and Kim Baker and husband, Steve, all of Franklin; four sons, Don Sanford and wife, Deb, and Jim Palmer, all of Franklin, Lee Sanford of Pittsburgh and Dana Mack and wife, Linda, of Hannaville; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She also is survived by two sisters, Velma Garland and Norma Zimoski and boyfriend, Charlie Taylor, all of Franklin; and one brother, James Duttry and wife, Jean, of Youngstown, Ohio. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Sanford was preceded in death by two sons, Gary and Terry Sanford; a great-grandson, Seth; a sister, Thelma Kope; a brother, Kenneth Duttry; and a son-in-law, Joseph Cancilla.
