Slaugenhaupt, 309 Liberty St., Clarion Merle Travis, 99 Washington St., New Bethlehem Danny James Gaisford Danny James Gaisford, 46, of Belleville, Ill., died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2004, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Belleville. Born Sept. 19, 1958, in McAllen, Texas, he was the son of William and Jeanette Pool Gaisford, who survive. Mr. Gaisford was a retired U.S. Air Force crytological system technician. He was a member of the Scott Field Top 4 and Sergeant Association. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and NASCAR fan and enjoyed spending time with his golden retrievers, Boomer, Riley and Crypto. In addition to his parents of Dempseytown, he is survived by his wife, Tamara "Tammy" Gaisford of Belleville; two children, Dylan Gaisford and Chelsey Gaisford, both of Belleville; three brothers, David Gaisford and his wife, Genia, of Dayton, Ohio, John N. Gaisford of Dempseytown and William H. Gaisford and his wife, Kris, of Salisbury, N.C.; a sister, Linda Balas and her husband, Dave, of Pleasantville, and nieces and nephews. Visitation hours were held Friday at Kurrus Funeral Home, 1773 Frank Scott Parkway West, Belleville, Ill. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today at Scott Air Force Base Chapel 1 with Chaplain Horton officiating. Interment will be at 10:45 a.m. Monday at Jefferson Barracks, St. Louis, Mo. Mary Ann Welsby Kellner Mary Ann Welsby Kellner, 80, of Seneca, died at 12:55 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19, 2004, at UPMC Northwest. The Osenider Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. A complete obituary will be published in Monday's newspaper. Dennis W. Latchaw Dennis W. Latchaw, 50, of 1843 Allegheny Blvd., Reno, died at 11:05 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004 at his residence. Born April 21, 1954 in Franklin, he was the son of David "Doc" E. and Ethel M. Zerbe Latchaw, who preceded him in death. Mr. Latchaw was a self-employed contractor. He devoted his life to his work and when he wasn't on the job, Mr. Latchaw enjoyed having a good time. Surviving are a daughter, Jennifer S. Latchaw, and her fiancée, Charles A. Halligan, of Franklin and two grandchildren, Shawn Latchaw and Julie Halligan, both of Franklin. Also surviving are a brother, David L. Latchaw of Franklin, and two sisters, Rebecca Nelson of Titusville and Sara "Sally" Garris of Rocky Grove. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, John Beach, Charles E. Latchaw, Daniel L. Latchaw and Terry L. Latchaw, and a sister, Ellen M. Latchaw. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Robert W. Gardinier Funeral Home in Franklin with the Rev. Ronald C. Bole, the VNA Hospice pastor, officiating. The family suggests memorial donations be made to the VNA Hospice at 176 E. Bissell Ave., Oil City, or to American Cancer Society at 10 W. Front St., Oil City. Mary S. Linnan Mary S. Linnan, 93, formerly a resident of 12th Street, Franklin, died at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004, in the emergency room at UPMC Northwest. She was a resident of The Caring Place for the past seven years. Born Feb. 19, 1911, in Franklin, she was a daughter of Patrick J. and Catherine O'Brien Shannon. Mrs. Linnan was a 1928 graduate of Sacred Heart Academy in Franklin. She was employed for 43 years in the office at General Manifold and Printing Company, retiring in 1971. She was a member of St. Patrick Church in Franklin. She was also a member of the Altar Rosary Society of the church and was a charter member of the Catholic Daughters of America. She was married Oct. 23, 1939, to James P. Linnan, who preceded her in death Oct. 25, 1983. Mrs. Linnan is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two brothers, John and Joseph Shannon. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the Huff Chapel, 312 West Park St., Franklin. A vigil service will be held at 8:30 p.m. Sunday. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday in St. Patrick Church with the Rev. Robert Manning, assistant pastor, presiding. Thomas F. McMurdy Thomas F. McMurdy, 51, of Seattle, Wash. formerly of Seneca, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004, in Seattle. The Hile-Best Funeral Home in Seneca is in charge of arrangements. A complete obituary will be published in a future edition of the newspaper. DeWayne E. Slaugenhaupt DeWayne E. Slaugenhaupt, 84, of 309 Liberty St., Clarion, died Friday, Nov. 19, 2004, at his residence following a courageous nine-year battle with cancer. Born March 20, 1920, he was the oldest child of Stella Mae Wood and Benjamin Edward Slaugenhaupt. Mr. Slaugenhaupt was a graduate of Shippenville High School and Clarion State College, where he received a bachelor of science degree in education. He earned his masters degrees from the University of Pittsburgh and from Clarkson College in Pottstown, N.Y. He interrupted his college education in 1941 when he joined the Air Force in World War II. After serving for four years in England, he was discharged as a master sergeant in 1945. Mr. Slaugenhaupt taught secondary science in Ludlow, Shippenville and Union Joint high schools before he accepted a position teaching in the physics department at Clarion University in 1965. He retired in 1982 after 34 years of educational service. Mr. Slaugenhaupt was a member of Clarion First United Methodist Church. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and growing blueberry bushes, Christmas trees and fruit orchards at his farm in Fisher. A self-taught carpenter, he and his wife restored her 19th century family home in Clarion. A lifelong learner, he enjoyed science, spending time with his family and grandsons and following the stock market. He will be remembered by those who knew him for his kindness, understanding and willingness to help others. Mr. Slaugenhaupt was married 58 years ago on June 22, 1946, at Clarion First United Methodist Church to the former Helen B. Hummel, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Ann Vallimont and her husband, James, of Pittsburgh, and Susan Petrey and her husband, Ronald, of Reading; and three grandchildren, Joshua Vallimont and his wife, Jennifer, of Hermosa Beach, Calif., Jeremy Vallimont of State College and Marshall Petrey of Reading. Mr. Slaugenhaupt is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Thomas (Bonnie) Dolby of Clarion; a brother, Gerald, of New Bethlehem RD 1; and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and thoughtful friends and neighbors. In addition to his parents, Mr. Slaugenhaupt was preceded in death by an infant son, Phillip Allen, in 1952; and his brother, Robert Slaugenhaupt. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the Goble Funeral Home at 330 Wood St., Clarion, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church, Clarion. Merle Travis Merle Travis, 92, of 99 Washington St., New Bethlehem, died at 3:10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19, 2004, at his residence. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Charles D.
