McGregor, 8 Meadow Lane, Titusville Alice McCague Morrison, Marienville, formerly of Sewickley Anna M. Schettler, getting it right Betty Arlene Cyphert Betty Arlene Cyphert, 80, of Vowinckel, died early Wednesday morning, Nov. 10, 2004, in Clarion Hospital. Born Oct. 1, 1924, in Barnett Township, Forest County, she was the daughter of William H. and Nellie Kerns Silvis. Mrs. Cyphert was married in Greenwood United Methodist Church Jan. 24, 1943, to Francis B. Cyphert, who died Jan. 6, 1995. She operated the North Pine Grove General Store with her husband. She also worked at the Cook Forest Inn. Mrs. Cyphert was an avid bowler and enjoyed gardening, puzzles, crocheting and her family. Surviving are a son and his wife, Larry and Theresa Cyphert of DuBois; four grandchildren, Estelle Milligan, Teresa Lynn Martinelli, Becky Wolfgang and Carey Cyphert; and eight great-grandchildren. She also is survived by a sister, Dorothy Fox of North Pine Grove; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Cyphert was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Jim (Renie) Hillard. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday in the Borland Funeral Home Inc., Leeper. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Greenwood United Methodist Church in North Pine Grove with the Rev. Daniel Richter, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to the Greenwood United Methodist Church. Louise Barnes DeWoody Louise Barnes DeWoody, 99, of 1625 Center St., Salem, Ore., formerly of Franklin, died at 11:54 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2004, in Wilson House Nursing Home, Oregon. Born Feb. 28, 1905, on Black Hill Road, Franklin, she was the daughter of Henry L. and Agnes M. Evans Barnes. As a child, Mrs. DeWoody knew the Black family for whom the road is named, playing often at their house. Mrs. DeWoody graduated in 1923 from Franklin High School and went on to college to become a teacher. She spent her entire career as a second grade teacher at Cranberry Elementary School, retiring in the early 1970s. Mrs. DeWoody's hobbies included gardening and reading. She also had a lifelong love for learning. She was married to Orrin "Dee" DeWoody, who preceded her in death. Surviving are a niece, Carol Crownnoble Wilson, and her family. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. DeWoody was preceded in death by two sisters, Alice Steward and Edna Crownoble Utsinger. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday in the Robert W. Gardinier Funeral Home, Franklin. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Nicklin United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gale Boocks, retired Methodist minister, officiating. Interment will be in Old Sandy Cemetery. Marjorie L. 'Peg' Galey Marjorie L. "Peg" Galey, 85, of Marienville, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004, in the Clarion Hospital. Born June 20, 1919, in Tarentum, she was the daughter of Frank and Lois Weir Shearer. Mrs. Galey was a member of the Marienville United Methodist Church and the Marienville Bridge Club. After raising her children, she worked part-time as a home decorator while living in Connecticut. Mrs. Galey was married July 21, 1941, to James P. Galey, who died May 2, 2000. Surviving are three daughters, Marjorie A. Galey of Falls Church, Va., Jeanne Galey of Marienville and Lynn Dee Galey Lesie and husband, Timothy, of Poultney, Vt.; one son, James P. Galey Jr. of Coventry, Conn.; four grandchildren, Jimmy, Laura, Giorgos and Grace Galey; and two nephews, Don Christie of Saxonburg and Gary Christie of Tarentum. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Galey was preceded in death by a sister, June Christie, and a brother, Al Shearer. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday in the Ronald McDonald Funeral Home, Marienville. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the funeral home with the Rev. Dan Richter, pastor of the Marienville United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in the North Forest Cemetery, Marienville. Charles A. McGregor Charles A. McGregor, 80, of 8 Meadow Lane, Titusville, died unexpectedly at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004, in the Titusville Area Hospital. Born May 8, 1924, in Titusville, he was the son of Emory and Laura Woodworth McGregor. Mr. McGregor attended the Titusville schools. He was a veteran of World War II, drafted into the U.S. Army March 9, 1943. He served with the 185th Infantry, 40th Division, where he was a communication sergeant. He was honorably discharged Dec. 19, 1945, at Camp Atterbury, Ind., with the rank of sergeant. Following his discharge, Mr. McGregor returned home to work at Struthers Wells Corp. He later worked in the water department for the City of Oil City and was a machinist for Worthington Steel in Reno. Mr. McGregor returned to Titusville in 1965 and opened McGregor's Gulf Station, which he still was operating at the time of his death. He was a member of Titusville Lodge No. 754, F. &.A.M., Oil City Lodge of Perfection, Scottish Rite New Castle Consistory and the Colonel Drake Shrine Club. Mr. McGregor also was a member of the B.P.O. Elks No. 264, the Bruce Shorts Post No. 5958 VFW and the Cleo J. Ross Post No. 368 American Legion. He was married in Oil City March 29, 1947, to Joan Bromley, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Charles H. McGregor Jr. and wife, Valerie, and Timothy P. McGregor and wife, Shari, all of Titusville; five grandchildren, Jeff, Autumn, Chad, Ryan and Shawn McGregor; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. McGregor was preceded in death by six brothers, Earl M. "Pickles" McGregor and Earl's infant twin, Harry L. "Chip" McGregor, Paul A. McGregor, Raymond P. McGregor and Floyd W. McGregor; and three sisters, Marjorie M. Thomas, Ellen Marie McGregor and an infant. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home, 303 N. Washington St., Titusville. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home with the Rev. William Hopkins, pastor of the Oil City Church of the Nazarene, officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery with full military rites. The family suggests memorials be made to the VFW Scholarship Fund, the Titusville Leisure Services in care of Key 93 Fund or to the Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children. Alice McCagne Morrison Alice McCague Morrison, 78, of Marienville, formerly of Sewickley, died Tuesday evening, Nov. 9, 2004, at her home in Marienville. Born June 5, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Robert H. and Dorothea Cooper McCague of Sewickley. She was a graduate of Madrira School of Virginia. Mrs. Morrison had taught kindergarten before her marriage to John Alden Hays, who died in March 1982. In August 1990, she married Alger Morrison, who survives. "Al," as she was known, had an inexhaustible amount of energy that she directed toward her seven children and her community. Mrs. Morrison was a member of St. James Church in Sewickley and had attended both St. Mary Church in Crown and St. Ann Church in Marienville. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are five daughters, Mary Mathews, Christi Hays and Carol McLaughlin of Sewickley, Alice Hoesch of Phoenix, Ariz., and Barbara Tidone of Matawan, N.J.; and one son, John Hays of Phoenix, Ariz. Between the two marriages there are 19 grandchildren and one great-grandson. In addition to her parents and first husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Robert McCague Hays of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and a sister, Barbara McCague Semple. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Nov. 15, in the Ronald McDonald Funeral Home, Marienville, and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, in the Copland Funeral Home in Sewickley. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, in St. James Roman Catholic Church, Walnut Street, Sewickley. Private burial services will be held in Sewickley Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Union Aid Society, Masonic Village of Sewickley or to the Sewickley Valley Hospital. Getting it right Anna M. Schettler - Anna M. Schettler, 100, of Huefner Spring Road, Shippenville, died Monday evening, Nov. 8, 2004, in Clarion Hospital. Among her survivors is a sister-in-law, Mrs. Brady (Ruth) Weaver of Marble. She was preceded in death by a grandson-in-law, Richard Daugherty. Memorials may be made to the Clarion VNA or to the Msgr. Theobald Fund of St. Michael School, Fryburg.
