    3. The Derrick, Thursday, November 25, 2004: Myrtle Jacobson, DuBois Charles P. "Chuck" Nicks, Lake Wales, Fla., formerly Franklin Evelyn S. Pierce, 1709 Rocky Grove Ave. Myrtle Jacobson Myrtle Jacobson, 93, of DuBois, died Monday, Nov. 8, 2004, in the DuBois Nursing Home. Surviving are a daughter, Margo Johnston, and a granddaughter, Sherri Dunkel, both of Seneca. Charles P. 'Chuck' Nicks Charles P. "Chuck" Nicks, 84, of Lake Wales, Fla., and formerly of Franklin, died Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004, in Florida. He was a former employee of the Chicago Pneumatic Tool Co., Franklin. Evelyn S. Pierce Evelyn S. Pierce, 93, of 1709 Rocky Grove Ave., died at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004, at her home. Born Aug. 23, 1911, in Delaware Township, Mercer County, she was a daughter of John and Maude Miles Slaughenhaupt. She was a 1929 graduate of Rocky Grove High School. She then completed her studies at Welsh's Business College in Oil City. Mrs. Pierce worked for a short time as a telephone operator at Oil Well Supply in Oil City. She was a member of the Rocky Grove Avenue Presbyterian Church for 78 years. She also was a member of the Rocky Grove Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary, the Rocky Grove Lioness and the Rocky Grove Homemakers. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, tatting and traveling. She was married June 24, 1936, to Melvin L. Pierce, who preceded her in death on May 5, 2001. Surviving are four children, Calvin Pierce and wife, Barbara, Lois Pierce and Janet Bish and husband, Arnold, all of Franklin, and Allan Pierce and wife, Barbara, of New Wilmington; eight grandchildren, Scott Pierce and wife, Lisa, Brian Pierce and Christopher Pierce, all of Franklin, Rebecca Bennett and husband, Scott, of Justin, Texas, Matthew Pierce of Duncanville, Texas, and Jennie Donato and husband, Shawn, of Sharon, Keith Pierce of New Wilmington, and Jeffery Singleton and wife, Dawn, of Kent, Ohio; 11 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Guy Slaughenhaupt of Franklin. Along with her parents and husband, Mrs. Pierce was preceded in death by two brothers, Franklin and Charles Slaughenhaupt; and a great-grandson. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Huff Chapel, 312 W. Park St., Franklin. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Daniel Callahan, pastor of the Rocky Grove Avenue Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment will be in the Franklin Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to the Rocky Grove Avenue Presbyterian Church, 312 Rocky Grove Ave., Franklin, or to the VNA of Venango County, 176 E. Bissell Ave., Oil City.
