Vargo, Youngstown, Ohio Helen M. "Teeny" Worst, 225 Rocca Way Drive, Franklin Donald F. Zimmermann, San Antonio, Texas, formerly of Oil City Betty Marie Bickel Betty Marie Bickel, 79, of 402 Moran St., Oil City, died Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004, at her home. Born July 29, 1925, in Emporium, she was the daughter of Lottie M. George. Her childhood had many fond memories of growing up on a farm near Ridgway with her aunt Rose "Billie," her uncle Sherman and her cousins Peggy, Eilene, Ena, Jean, Dorthea and Blair. Mrs. Bickel was and will continue to be an inspiration to her children, grandchildren and others who had the opportunity to learn the Golden Rule by her lifelong example. After moving to Oil City in the late 1940s, Mrs. Bickel worked at Schenck's Restaurant and later retired from Oil City Area School District. She was married Aug. 19, 1950, to Frances E. Bickel Jr., who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Janet Lee Bickel of Butler; a son, Jeffrey Lowell Bickel; three grandchildren, William A. Proper, Drew A. Bickel and Emily S. Bickel; and one great-grandchild, Zachary Proper, all of Oil City. In addition to her mother, Mrs. Bickel was preceded in death by her first son, William J. Proper Jr. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in Morrison Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with the Rev. John R. Friggle, associate pastor of Grace United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Community Ambulance Service. Thomas F. McMurdy Thomas F. McMurdy, 51, of Seattle, formerly of Seneca, died Thursday evening, Nov. 18, 2004, in Seattle. Born July 30, 1953, in Oil City, he was the son of Eugene and Martha Rihel McMurdy. Mr. McMurdy was a 1972 Cranberry High School graduate and later completed training in culinary arts. He was of the Protestant faith. Mr. McMurdy was employed for 20 years as the head chef for Evergreen Court Retirement Center in Bellvue, Wash. Surviving are his mother, Martha McMurdy of Oil City; two sisters, Jeanie Umstead and Gladys Sweeney and her husband, Robert, of Seneca; two brothers, Joseph McMurdy and his wife, June, and Alan McMurdy and his wife, Gayle, all of Seneca; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. McMurdy was preceded in death by his father, Eugene McMurdy in 1976; a sister, Sandy Emanuele in 2002; and a brother-in-law, Chuck Umstead in 2000. A private memorial service will be held at Hile-Best Funeral Home, 2781 Route 257, Seneca, Cranberry Township, with the Rev. Robert Wilson, pastor of Seneca United Methodist Church, officiating. Talley, 74, of Forest Grove, Ore., died Tuesday evening, Nov. 16, 2004, at the Jennings-McCall II Assisted Living Center in Forest Grove. Born March 5, 1930, in Oil City, he was the son of Merton and Izora Myers Talley. Mr. Talley graduated from Oil City High School and later attended Westminster College, where he earned a degree in theater/drama. He also earned a master's degree from Purdue University and a doctorate from the University of Wisconsin. He was a professor of speech and drama at Millersville University for 32 years. Mr. Talley made his home in Lancaster for 40 years until May, 2004, when he moved to Forest Grove to be near his daughter and her family. He loved all aspects of the theater, but had a great passion for directing. Mr. Talley is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Anne and Dean Kennedy of Forest Grove, Ore.; a stepdaughter, Diana Proud-Madruga and her husband, Peter, of LaMesa, Calif., two sisters, Helen Grinder of Oil City and Ruth Mitcham of Seneca; a granddaughter, Samantha Renee Kennedy of Forest Grove; and numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Eldon and Ken Talley; and a sister, Elizabeth Talley. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, in Dutcher Hall at Millersville University. A private interment will be held. Vargo, 79, father of Karen Vargo of Tionesta, died Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004, at his residence in the Youngstown, Ohio, area. Helen M. "Teeny" Worst Helen M. "Teeny" Worst, 75, of 225 Rocca Way Drive, Franklin, died at 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004 at her residence. Born Aug. 6, 1929 on the Clapp Farm in Cornplanter Township, she was the daughter of the late Mary Blanche Shields and Christian Plummer Cauvel. Mrs. Worst was employed as a kitchen aid at Franklin Hospital. She was of Protestant faith. Mrs. Worst enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, playing cards, ceramics and traveling. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren. On Jan. 6, 1953, she married Fred L. Worst, who preceded her in death on July 2, 2000. She is survived by four children, Gale E. Briggs, Sr. of Franklin, Sheila Malone and her husband, Ira, of Franklin, Cindy Worst of Franklin and Belinda Krawiec and her husband, Jim, Jr., of Rocky Grove; 10 grandchildren, Danny Malone and Michael Malone of Franklin, Mandy Malone and her fiancé, John Fulton, of Franklin, Corey and Gale Briggs, Jr. of Franklin, Justin Briggs of Stoneboro, Chad Worst and his wife, Trish, of Franklin, Donald Malone, Jr. and Amber Reitz of Franklin and Curt Malone of Franklin, and several great grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, Norman "Skip" Umstead and his wife, Betty, of Franklin and a sister, Phyllis "Phid" Carter of Oil City. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Worst was preceded in death by two grandsons, Timothy and Christian Worst; two infant brothers; an infant sister; a brother, William Cauvel; three sisters, Elvira "Vie" Lindsey, Stella "Irene" Harvey, John "Jo" Hover; two half-sisters, Beulah Slack and Ruth Ferguson; four half-brothers, Harry, Jim, Peter E. "Buck" and Plummer Cauvel. There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Robert W. Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc. in Franklin with the Rev. Ronald Bole, pastor of the VNA hospice, officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the family in Mrs. Worst's name. Donald F. Zimmermann Donald F. Zimmermann, 72, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004, in San Antonio, Texas, after a long illness. Born Aug. 11, 1932, in Oil City, he had lived in San Antonio since 1974. He is survived by two sons and their wives, Michael D. and Heleane Zimmermann of New Holland and James F. and Diane Zimmermann of Barberton, Ohio; a sister, Barbara (Lowell) Mays of Madison, Wis.; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick G. and Mildred A. (Otto) Zimmermann. Cremation has taken place and interment will be at Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens. A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
