Irene T. Books, formerly of Victory Heights Darlene S. Porter, 406 Cooper Ave., Oil City Irene T. Books, 91, formerly of Victory Heights, died at 9:27 a.m. Friday, Aug. 20, 2004, at Sugar Creek Station. Born Feb. 7, 1913, in Portland, Ind., she was a daughter of Edna Harriet Searles. She was raised by her aunt and uncle, Lon and Maude Amsler, in the Knox area. Mrs. Books and her husband lived in this area for many years before moving in 1960 to Warren, Ind., where they owned and operated The Books Cafe. Mrs. Books also worked for 10 years as an LPN at the Warren Methodist Home in Indiana. They returned to the area in 1978, and she was very active in the Meals on Wheels program for several years. She was married Oct. 30, 1933, to Ray D. Books, who preceded her in death June 6, 1984. Surviving are three children, Phyllis Daugherty and her husband, Robert, of Victory Heights, Dixie Poirier and her husband, Joseph, of Eliot, Maine, and Robert Books of Fort Wayne, Ind. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Steven Daugherty and Ronald Daugherty and his wife, Cathy, all of Victory Heights, Lori Switzer and her husband, Fred, of Farmdale, Ohio, Amy Daugherty of Fertigs, Christopher Poirier of Fort Collins, Colo., and Donna Poirier of Portland, Maine. Survivors also include eight great-grandchildren, Michael Daugherty, Jennifer Daugherty and Samantha Daugherty, all of Victory Heights, Daniel Switzer and Gavin Switzer of Farmdale, Ohio, and Christopher Poirier, Sean Poirier and Veronique Poirier, all of Fort Collins, Colo.; and a half-brother, Robert Searles, and half-sister, Mary Williamson, both of Warren, Ind. There will be private visitation and funeral services, with the Rev. Ray Crawford of Victory Heights United Brethren Church officiating, at the Huff Chapel, 312 W. Park St., Franklin. Interment will be in Phipps Cemetery, Elk Township, Clarion County. The family suggests memorial donations be made to Victory Heights United Brethren Church, 5978 U.S. 322, Franklin, 16323; or Sugar Creek Station, 351 Causeway Drive, Franklin, 16323. Darlene S. Porter, 52, of 406 Cooper Ave., Oil City, died at 10:45 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, at Titusville Area Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born May 27, 1952, in Oil City, she was a daughter of Charles E. and Dona Spence Porter. Miss Porter enjoyed television and people. She touched the heart of many people. She is survived by her mother, Dona Porter of Oil City, with whom she made her home; two brothers, Jack Porter and wife, Judy, of Reading, and Fred Porter and wife, Connie, of Arvada, Colo.; a sister, Judy David and husband, Ron, of Oil City; a half-sister, Patricia Voorhies of Oil City; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father and a sister, Karen Carson. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Morrison Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Walter E. Witherup Jr., pastor of the Seneca Assembly of God, officiating. Interment will be in Franklin Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to Titusville Area Hospital or Titusville Home Care.
