My great grandfather was William Orin Douglass b: 1855 Clarion Co. PA. to unknown Douglass and Mary Jane Crate. Mary Janes father is Daniel Crate, Mother: Hannah (last name unknown) By 1857, unknown Douglass is dead & Mary remarried to Samuel Watterson. (Facts stated on Watterson Civil War pension application) 1860 Wm. O. is with his grandfather, Daniel Crate, in Clarion Co. I believe Daniel is probably the brother of Charles Crate, son of Phillip who founded the community of Crates. I am seeking anything to tie this Daniel to Phillip and Charles.........and..........anything that might lead to the identity of Wm. O. Douglass father & mother. All help very much appreciated. Names mentioned on Mary Jane Crate/Douglass/Watterson obituary include a Mrs. Asherheit(?) of PA and a Mrs. Coulter as women who were with her at the end. These could have been her sisters, or a sister and a daughter. I have her photo. Anyone out there who can help me?? Thanking you in advance, Alice
Alice, I don't have much but here is what I have. I have been trying to figure out who the Samuel Watterson is the child of, but so far have had no luck. Mary Jane Crate was born December 24, 1832 to Daniel & Hannah Crate. She married Samuel Jacob Watterson 1857. He was born June 07, 1830 in Clarion Co. PA, and died December 27, 1925 in Missouri. More About Samuel Jacob Watterson: Census: 1860, Living in Perry Twp., Clarion Co. PA. In 1880 they are living in Missouri with Samuel & Hannah. Military service: Civil War Veteran Parents: his father was born in Tenn. & mother in PA. Marriage Status: Mary was a widow of William Douglas with whom she had a daughter, Martha A. Douglas born 1853 Children of Mary Crate and Samuel Watterson are: i. James A.Watterson, born 1858 in Clarion Co. PA. ii. Miles Watterson, born February 05, 1860 in Clarion Co. PA. iii. Samuel Benton Watterson, born January 07, 1862 in Clarion Co. PA. iv. Hannah J. Watterson, born 1864 in Clarion Co. PA.
