Best Donna C. Best, 88, of 1344 Grandview Road, Oil City, died Saturday evening, Oct. 9, 2004, in Beverly Healthcare-Oil City. Born June 28, 1916, in Knox, she was the daughter of George and Mary Altman Corbin. She was a 1934 graduate of Knox High School. Mrs. Best was employed for 10 years by Slicker Pipe & Tool Co. She was married Oct. 2, 1943, to Clinton F. Best, who died Aug. 25, 1992. Surviving are two sons, Clinton Best of New York City and Richard Best of Oil City; two daughters, Sue Yoder and Patricia Settlemire, both of Oil City; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Best was preceded in death by a son, James David Best; one brother; two half brothers; and one half sister. There will be no visitation. Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens. The Morrison Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Courtney, 78, formerly of 947 Buffalo St., Franklin, died at 3:40 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 10, 2004, in Beverly Healthcare-Meadville. Born March 13, 1926, in North East, she was the daughter of Daniel J. and Frances Corle Courtney. Miss Courtney was a member of St. Patrick Church, Franklin. Surviving are two cousins, Jean C. Russell and B. Joseph Corle, both of Oil City; and a special friend, Marlyn McNanny of Franklin. In addition to her parents, Miss Courtney was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Charles (Jean) Owen. There will be no calling hours. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Robert W. Gardinier Funeral Home, Franklin, with Msgr. John J. Gabrys is in charge of arrangements. Laura Mae "Dude" Hook Laura Mae "Dude" Hook, 79, of Rimersburg, died at 6 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 10, 2004, in the Clarion Hospital following a lengthy illness. Born Aug. 11, 1925, in Thayton, Armstrong County, she was the daughter of George and Eveline King Smith. Mrs. Hook retired from Owens-Illinois in Clarion where she was employed in the decorating department for 17 years. She was a member of the Sligo Chapel. Mrs. Hook also belonged to the Rimersburg Senior Center. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and quilting. She and her husband enjoyed camping and attending country western concerts at the Jamboree in the Hills and at the Grand Ole Oprey. Mrs. Hook was married in Clarion Sept. 26, 1950, to Samuel L. Hook, who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Samuel L. Hook Jr. and Terry R. Hook, both of Rimersburg, and David A. Hook and wife, Betsey, of Brookville; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She also is survived by one sister, Jennie Bay Best of Rimersburg; four brothers, James Smith of Reno, Nev., Wilbert Smith and George "Hon" Smith and wife, Darlene, all of Rimersburg, and Thomas Smith and wife, Barbara, of Mercer; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hook was preceded in death by one son, Paul "Dubs" Custer in 1971; one daughter, Donna Lee Hook, Aug. 13, 1951; one granddaughter, Samantha Jo Hook; her son-in-law, Cary W. Miller, 94, of Center Road, Kendall, N.Y., formerly of Clarion, died Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004, at the home of her daughter, Cheryl, and husband, Paul, in Kendall. Mrs. Miller was the daughter of Jacob M. and Marguerite F. Miles of Clarion County. She was married to Victor C. Miller, who preceded her in death. Surviving are six children, Norma J. Wright of Holley, N.Y., Victor D. Miller and wife, Ruby, of Brockport, N.Y., Bessie Wainwright and husband, Jess, of Chili, N.Y., Thomas M. Miller and wife, Florine, of Ocala, Fla., Charles E. Miller of Florida and Cheryl D. Harper and husband, Paul, of Kendall, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Miller was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one grandson, James M. Wright. Servey Smith, 100, a resident of Clarview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Sligo, formerly of East Eighth Avenue, Clarion, died at 7:05 p.m. Friday, Oct. 8, 2004, in the Clarview facility where she recently celebrated her 100th birthday. Born Sept. 12, 1904, in Leeper, she was the daughter of Conrad and Theresa Grolemund Wolbert. Mrs. Smith was employed as a cook at the Old Clarion Hotel and worked as a housekeeper for the late Dr. Ross. She was a very active member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Clarion and was a member of the Immaculate Conception Ladies Guild. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and enjoyed her family, playing cards and crocheting. She first was married July 19, 1929, to Thomas E. Servey, who died Feb. 23, 1962. She then was married in 1964 to Fredrick Smith, who died in 1969. Surviving are two daughters and their husbands, Ruth and Robert Dimerling of Meadville and Patricia and Peter Curdo of Rimersburg; two sons, Robert Servey and wife, Jan, of Saegertown and Richard Servey of Strattanville; 13 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. She also is survived by three brothers, Ralph Wolbert of Erie, Walter Wolbert of Derrick City and Conrad Wolbert of New Bethlehem; and three sisters, Stella Kelly of Sharon, Grace O'Neill of Leeper and Louise Schmader of Clarion. In addition to her parents and both husbands, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by one son, Thomas L. Servey, in 1956; one grandson, Thomas J. Dimerling, in 1994; one son-in-law, LeRoy "Bud" Burns in 1992; five brothers, Joseph Wolbert, Clair Wolbert, Earl Wolbert, Raymond Wolbert and Arthur Wolbert; and two sisters, Ruth Walters and Edith Lander. Interment will be in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Lois M. Weeter Lois M. Weeter, 91, of Knox, died at 6:40 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004, in the Clarion Hospital following a sudden illness. Born Oct. 20, 1912, in Beaver Township, Clarion County, she was the daughter of John and Mabel Rowe Switzer. She was a 1930 graduate of White Memorial High School. Mrs. Weeter retired as a cafeteria worker for Keystone School District. She also worked as a waitress for many years at various restaurants in the area. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Knox and was very active in LCW where she was a past president. She also served on Church Council, was a Sunday School teacher, pianist and organist and was a member of the Quilting Guild. Mrs. Weeter enjoyed sewing, quilting and crocheting. She was married Dec. 25, 1931, to Reuben Weeter, who died Aug. 1, 1970. Surviving are four children, June Frye and husband, Wesley, Shirley Gruber and husband, Wayne, Robert Weeter and wife, Ellen, and Sally Mason and husband, John, all of Knox; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandchild. Mrs. Weeter was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by six brothers, Ralph Switzer, Raymond Switzer, Harold Switzer, John Switzer, Walter Switzer and Eugene Switzer; one sister, Frances Salser; and a great-grandson, Hunter James Corona.
