"Fritz Baumcratz Fred H. "Fritz" Baumcratz, 89, formerly of Lucinda, died early Saturday morning, Oct. 16, 2004, in Camp Hill Care Center, Camp Hill. Born June 24, 1915, in Lucinda, he was the son of John C. and Catherine Lander Baumcratz. Mr. Baumcratz worked at Owens-Illinois in Clarion. He was a member of St. Joseph Church in Lucinda and St. Joseph Church in Mechanicsburg. Mr. Baumcratz also was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 4216 in Lucinda. He was married June 16, 1937, to the former Gertrude C. Black, who died Jan. 19, 1986. Surviving are a daughter, Joan M. Beary of Mechanicsburg; a daughter-in-law, Virginia Baumcratz of Lucinda; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He also is survived by a brother, Edward Baumcratz of Lucinda; a sister, Philomena "Minnie' Wolbert of Lucinda; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Baumcratz was preceded in death by a son, James H. Baumcratz; a sister, Dorothy Baumcratz; and two brothers, Robert and Leonard Baumcratz. Burt, 46, of 1105 Elm St., Franklin, died at 6:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 15, 2004, in UPMC Presbyterian, Pittsburgh. Born April 29, 1958, in Oil City, he was the son of Glenn L. and Norma Fay Proper Burt. Mr. Burt worked as a clerk at Dairy Queen in Franklin. He was a member of the Four Square Church of the Living God, Franklin. Mr. Burt was an organ tissue eye donor. He enjoyed baking, pets, especially birds, plants and history. Surviving are his companion, Lisa Krizon of Franklin; three children, Nathaniel Burt and Zanah Burt, both of Franklin, and Lydia Moser and husband, Jeremy, of Oil City; a stepdaughter, Victoria Krizon of Franklin; and one grandchild, Eli Moser of Oil City. He also is survived by a brother, Randy Burt of Franklin; and four sisters, Glenda Songer of Cooperstown, Marla Burt of Glenco, Ky., Rita Firster and husband, Robert Jr., of Pleasantville and Lisa Pyle and husband, Darren, of Warsaw, N.Y.; five nephews; five nieces, two great-nieces and two great-nephews. Moser, 48 W. Fourth St., Fourth Floor, Oil City, 16301. James Gale Cobbett James Gale Cobbett, 73, of Fisher, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004, at his home. Born March 8, 1931, in Rimersburg, he was the son of Clinton and Tressa Mortimer Cobbett. Mr. Cobbett served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and the Korean War. He retired as manager at Superior Dairy in Canton, Ohio. For the past six years, Mr. Cobbett was roadmaster for Millcreek Township, Clarion County. Mr. Cobbett was married in Carson City, Nev., April 3, 1953, to Maude Lucy Claque, who survives. Also surviving are one son, Clint Cobbett and wife, Debbie, of Mesa, Ariz.; two daughters, Mrs. Jeff (Rena) Hamilton and Mrs. Mike (Kathy) Kent, all of Canton, Ohio; and seven grandchildren, Loren, Justin, Karl, Katie, Hannah, Jared and Caleb. In addition to his parents, Mr. Cobbett was preceded in death by two sisters, Doris Lehner and Helen Latshaw; and two brothers, Deane Corbett and Fred Cobbett. Droddy, 79, of Route 66, Lucinda, died Friday afternoon, Oct. 15, 2004, at her home after an extended illness. Born July 21, 1925, in Lucinda, she was the daughter of Jacob and Ida Fasenmyer Zacherl. Mrs. Droddy graduated from Clarion High School and attended two years of business school in Warren. She worked at Moore Funeral Home in Leeper, New Process in Warren, J.C. Penney in Clarion and the State Highway Department in Clarion. Most recently Mrs. Droddy was a housewife who enjoyed quilting, needlepoint, baking and feeding the birds. She was an avid Pirates, Steelers and Penguins fan. Mrs. Droddy was married in St. Joseph Church, Lucinda, Sept. 21, 1948, to Clarence Ray Droddy, who survives. Also surviving are five children, Mary Anne Clevenger and husband, Richard, of Philippi, W.Va., Rose Ellen Droddy, Joseph Henry Droddy and wife, Norma, and Dennis James Droddy and wife, Marilyn, all of Oil City, and Vincent Arthur Droddy and wife, Sara, of Kittanning; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She also is survived by two brothers, Cyril Zacherl and wife, Vivian, of Huefner and Clair Zacherl and wife, Ethel, of New Port Richey, Fla. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Droddy was preceded in death by a brother, James; two infant sisters, Virginia and Geraldine; and an infant granddaughter, Mary Alice Shoaff. Graffius, 86, of Vowinckel, died Friday, Oct. 15, 2004, in Clarion Hospital. Born Dec. 29, 1917, in Logansport, she was the daughter of John and Elsie Dunmire Caldwell. Mrs. Graffius was a member of the Greenwood United Methodist Church and throughout her life, she was a committed, active church member. In her earlier years, she participated in a variety of civic and social organizations. She was a housewife and an intelligent well-spoken woman who was a voracious reader and reveled in the love of and for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Graffius was married Oct. 3, 1942, to George E. Graffius, who died Feb. 15, 1989. Surviving are a son, William Howard Graffius and wife, Beverly, of Gearhart, Ore.; nine grandchildren, George Edward Graffius III, Donald Martin Graffius, Julia Susanne Bilskie, Patrick Matthew Graffius, D'Arcy Ann Yerace, Megan Elizabeth Graffius, William Stuart Trafford Graffius, Graham Nightbear Fee and Willow Marie Fee; and seven great-grandchildren. She also is survived by a sister, Sara Thompson of McKees Rocks. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Graffius was preceded in death by a son, George Edward Graffius Jr.; two brothers, Chuck and Tom Caldwell; and three sisters, Helen Butler, Anne "Doll" Graffius and Hattie Trafford. Hanna Sr., 72, of 455 Meadow Road, Seneca, died at 12:54 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, 2004, in UPMC Northwest, Seneca. Born Feb. 23, 1932, in Oil City, he was the son of Jesse and Virginia Proper Hanna. Mr. Hanna graduated in 1950 from Cranberry High School and then worked at the glass plant. He attended several computer schools. He entered the U.S. Air Force in 1952 and served for 20 years. He was discharged in 1972 at March Air Force Base in Riverside, Calif. After his discharge, Mr. Hanna worked for Conair until 1987. Mr. Hanna enjoyed fishing and hunting, was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers fan, enjoyed watching sports on television and going to comedy shows and musicals. On Jan. 15, 1974, he married the former Sandra Lee Watson, who survives. Also surviving are three sons, John H. Hanna Jr. of Arizona, William R. Porath Jr. of Seneca and Donald J. Porath of Oil City; three daughters, Mrs. Bradley (Paulinda) Davidson of Georgia, Mishelle R. Fletcher of Saltsburg and Tina L. Bickel of Erie; and seven grandchildren, Jeremy Davidson stationed in Iraq, Tim Davidson and Keri Davidson of Georgia, Jami Porath of Titusville, Chad Fletcher of Oil City, Angel L. Kase of Eastlake, Ohio, and Joshua J. Bickel of Erie. He also is survived by two brothers, James R. Hanna and wife, Florence, of Seneca and Paul E. Hanna and wife, Alice, of Titusville; and three sisters, Mrs. Harold (Nancy) Ewing of Pleasantville, Mrs. Keith (Bonnie) Maynard of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Mrs. Dennis (Judy) Carbaugh of Seneca; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, William Allen Hanna, and a daughter, Karen L. Hanna. There will be no visitation. Interment will be in Heckathorn Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society. George E. and Myrtus K. Mohr George E. Mohr, 88, of 318 W. Fifth St., Oil City, died as the result of an automobile accident Friday, Oct. 15, 2004, along Route 8 near the Pepsi Bottling facility. Born Jan. 8, 1916, in Burma, he was the son of Charles F. and Aurie L. Prentise Mohr. Mr. Mohr was a 1934 graduate of Oil City High School, then graduated from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio, and received his master's degree from the University of Pittsburgh. He had worked for National Transit from 1937 to 1944 and Worthington from 1945 to 1947. In 1951 he started teaching for the Oil City School District and retired in 1979 as the department head of the Business Education Department. Mr. Mohr was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He also was a member of the Oil City Lions Club, Oil City Lodge No. 710, F. & A.M., Venango Lodge of Perfection, New Castle Consistory, Zem Zem Shrine, Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees, the Venango Chapter of Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees and Meals-on-Wheels. On June 25, 1944, he married the former Myrtis Karle, who also died in the same accident. Surviving are a daughter, Melissa Anne Mohr of Minneapolis, Minn.; a brother, John M. Mohr of Union City; and a sister, Nancy McDowell of Reno. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Mohr was preceded in death by a sister, Yoma M. Yahner; a brother, Homer E. "Ted" Mohr; and a half brother, Robert Mohr. Myrtis Karle Mohr Myrtis Karle Mohr, 83, of 318 W. Fifth St., Oil City, died as a result of an automobile accident Friday, Oct. 15, 2004, on Route 8 near the Pepsi plant. Born March 15, 1921, in New Kensington, she was the daughter of George P. and Verna Irene Geiger Karle. Mrs. Mohr graduated in 1938 from Arnold High School and from Indiana State Teachers College. She taught at Stoneboro, the Barstow School for Girls, Rocky Grove School and retired after 26 years from the Cranberry School District as the department head of home economics. Mrs. Mohr was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Hope Circle of the church. She also belonged to the American Association of University Women, Order of Eastern Star, YWCA and Belles Lettres Club and was a past president of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees of Venango County. Surviving are a daughter Melissa Anne Mohr of Minneapolis, Minn.; and a brother, George P. Karle Jr. of Miami, Fla. Mrs. Mohr was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, whom she married June 25, 1944. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Morrison Funeral Home. A memorial service for Mr. and Mrs. Mohr will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bruce K. Merritt, pastor, officiating. Murphy Arthur L. Murphy, 76, of 210 Petroleum St., Oil City, died at 8:41 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004, in UPMC Northwest, Seneca. Born Nov. 26, 1927, in Ellwood City, he was the son of Archie and Ivabelle Hunt Murphy. Mr. Murphy served in the U.S. Army with the Occupational Services in Japan. He graduated from Geneva College with a degree in engineering. Mr. Murphy first was employed at American Bridge in Ambridge and then went to work for U.S. Steel. In 1968 he went to work for Manion Steel Barrel where he became president. After retirement he volunteered his time in the Genealogy Room at the Oil City Library. He also enjoyed golfing and bowling. Mr. Murphy was a 36-year member of the Second Presbyterian Church where he served as both elder and trustee. He was married May 12, 1951, in Bell Memorial Presbyterian Church, Ellwood City, to the former Barbara Marion, who survives. Also surviving are four children, Lee Ann Donovan of Titusville, Brian Murphy of Oil City, Tom Murphy of Pembroke Pines, Fla., and Susan Rizzo and husband, Joe, of Oil City; his grandchildren, Melissa, Heather, Aaron and Ben and his wife, Mindy; and one great-grandchild Paiton. He also is survived by a sister, Jean Cates of Chapel Hill, N.C.; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Roy and Pat Marion of Beaver. Mr. Murphy was preceded in death by his parents. There will be no visitation. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Second Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Howard Gaston, pastor, officiating. Charles Walter Shaw Sr. Charles Walter Shaw Sr., 90, of 620 10th St., Franklin, died at 2:56 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004, in The Caring Place, Franklin. Born March 2, 1914, in Pleasantville, he was the son of George Luther and Linnie Elizabeth Shaw. Mr. Shaw was owner of Shaw's Shoes in Franklin for 20 years, retiring in 1979. He also was the former owner of Shaw's Atlantic Gas Station in Franklin. He was a member of the Fox Street Church of God. Mr. Shaw was married June 15, 1939, to the former M. Marguerite Holtz, who survives. Also surviving are three children, Charles Walter Shaw Jr. and wife, Vickie, of Crested Butte, Colo., Nancy Edwards and husband, Bud, of Punta Gordo, Fla., and Laurie Shouey and husband, Ray, of Franklin; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Shaw was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Joan Shaw; two brothers, Harry I. and Clarence L. Shaw; and two sisters, Georgia M. Shaw and Virginia Burrows. Smathers, 80, of Tylersburg, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004, at his residence. Born Dec. 5, 1923, in Tylersburg, he was the son of William B. and Lula Belle Allio Smathers. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Smathers retired in 1973 after 45 years as a welder in the coal mines. He was a member of the Tylersburg United Methodist Church. Mr. Smathers also belonged to Masonic Lodge No. 633 in Marienville, the Coudersport Consistory and the VFW Post No. 1424 in Marienville. He was married Feb. 21, 1941, to the former Pauline D. Frazier, who died Aug. 19, 1995. Surviving are a son, Jeffrey Smathers and wife, Cindy, of Clarion; and four grandchildren, Shon, Dirk, Kory and Tiffany. He also is survived by a brother, R. James Smathers and wife, Tess, of Clarion; and a sister, Kay Neely and husband, Blake, of Knox. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Smathers was preceded in death by a son, Jack O. Hazel Marie Wetzel Hazel Marie Wetzel, 89, of Knox RD, died Sunday morning, Oct. 17, 2004, in UPMC Northwest, Seneca, following a short illness. Born Nov. 11, 1914, in Sligo, she was the daughter of Lester and Rose Cropp Henry. She would have been 90 on Veterans Day. Mrs. Wetzel had been self-employed with her husband in Wetzel Bussing for the Keystone School District. She previously had worked at the D&M Market in Knox. She was a member of St. Mark Memorial Chapel in Kossuth. Mrs. Wetzel enjoyed cooking, sewing, crocheting, camping and her garden. She was married Sept. 25, 1940, to Charles "Paul" Wetzel, who died Jan. 24, 2002. Surviving are two daughters and their husbands, Barbara and Paul La Pierre Sr. if Knox RD and Kay and Dennis Zerbe of Knox; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She also is survived by a sister, Gladys Barnett of Knox RD; a brother, Homer Henry of Knox RD; three sisters-in-law, Mary June Henry and Attossa Henry, both of Knox RD, and Evelyn Henry of Shippenville. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Wetzel was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Paula Black, in 1974; her son-in-law, James Black, in 1992; five brothers, Wilber Henry, Irvin Henry, Arnold Henry, Raymond Henry and Lawrence Henry; a brother-in-law, Guy Barnett; and a sister-in-law, Ida Mae Henry. Winger, 84, of 1582 Barkeyville Road, Grove City, Barkeyville Borough, died at 1:17 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004, in an auto accident on Route 208, Barkeyville Road. Born Feb. 7, 1920, in Montoursville, she was the daughter of William Louis and Rosa Harriet Kaiser. Mrs. Winger was a homemaker and formerly was a food service employee at the former Victory Joint High School. She was a member of the Barkeyville United Methodist Church, Barkeyville, for the past 14 years and was particularly active in United Methodist Women, having served as secretary for many years. She was very involved in their mission outreach to the community, making bibs and lap robes for local nursing homes, hats and booties for AIDS babies and stuffed animals for the Pine Township Rescue Squad to use when escorting young children to the hospital. Mrs. Winger was well-known for her pumpkin pies and her homemade chocolate covered Easter eggs. She also provided homemade chili every year on election day for those who worked the polls all day in the Barkeyville Borough. She was married Sept. 22, 1943, to Samuel B. Winger, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Barry W. Winger and wife, Darlene, of Sharpsville and Russell W. Winger and wife, Betsy, of Transfer; four grandchildren, Melinda Wilbert, Rhonda Valez, Jill Fertig and Sean Winger; and six great-grandchidren, Haley Wilbert, Caitlyn Wilbert, Joshua Valez, Corey Valez, Chelsea Valez and Jenna Winger. She also is survived by four sisters, Mildred Bertha Kaiser of Florida, Mabel Marie Harris of Conneautville, Lillian Myrtle Lewis of Montoursville and Jean Carol Barber of Socorro, N.M.; and one brother, Don Robert Kaiser of Friendsville, Tenn. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Winger was preceded in death by four brothers, Harry Ellsworth Kaiser, Ralph Louis Kaiser, Emerson George Kaiser and Perry William Kaiser.
