Jessie Mason Galbraith Jessie Mason Galbraith, 86, of Farmington, Conn., died Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, at New Britain General Hospital in Connecticut. She was born Jan. 15, 1918, in Richmond Hill, Queens, New York, and was a lifelong resident of Jackson, N.J., before moving to Farmington. Mrs. Galbraith attended the Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in New York City and was employed as a secretary at Anheuser-Busch in Newark, N.J., for many years prior to her retirement. She was the wife of the late John W. Galbraith. Mrs. Galbraith is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Wendy K. and Andrew K. Zurstadt of Unionville, Conn.; a son and daughter-in-law, Dennis M. and Sally S. Kaiser of Dillon, Colo.; and a grandson, Colin A. Zurstadt of Unionville, Conn. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be celebrated at The Gables in Farmington, Conn. Private burial will be in Franklin Cemetery. Robert Edwin Kugler Robert Edwin Kugler, 87, a lifelong resident of Oil City, died at 4:09 a.m. Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, at Beverly Healthcare in Oil City. Born Jan. 14, 1917, he was a son of Frederick E. and Greta Barras Kugler. Mr. Kugler graduated from Oil City High School in 1935. In order to help support his family, he began to work immediately as a tool and die maker at Oilwell Supply Co. In the late 1940s, he entered the sales field at Wayside Furniture. He then moved on to Michaels Furniture, then to manager positions at the J.C. Penney furniture department and Veachs Furniture. In 1966, along with Richard Kugler, he launched Kugler Brothers home improvement business, which continued until their retirement in 1988. Mr. Kugler was the Oil City civil defense director for a number of years, beginning in 1960. He served as an authorized American Red Cross instructor beginning in 1967. He also worked as a volunteer tour guide on the Oil Creek and Titusville Railroad and as an auxiliary policeman for Oil City for some years, logging more than 100,000 miles on motorcycle patrol. Mr. Kugler's fascination with woodworking attracted many people to his home, which was a wonderland for visitors of all ages. It was filled with countless working, handmade models of everything from vehicles, toys, houses, fish, games, puzzles and illusions to a working model of an oil lease. Until his heart attack in December 2003, he was a regular user of the Justus bicycle trail, accumulating more than 20,000 miles. In his trademark jumpsuit, he could often be found at the River Ridge gate entertaining visitors with stories of the past. He is survived by a sister, Greta Webber of Reno, Nev.; a niece, Mary Exley of Oil City; and a nephew, Stephen Kugler of Flagstaff, Ariz. In his later years, he found support and encouragement from his niece-in-law, Deborah Kugler, whom he referred to as Dr. Debbie, and a cousin, Bill Bowen. Mr. Kugler was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Kenneth and Richard; a sister-in-law, Lois Kugler; and a nephew, Noel Kugler. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. The Morrison Funeral Home in Oil City is in charge of arrangements. Maurice Jerome Licht Maurice Jerome Licht, 79, of 103 Walnut St., Tionesta, died at 4:45 a.m. Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, in Titusville Area Hospital following an extended illness. The Leo N. Hennes Funeral Home, 203 East Main St., Titusville, is in charge of arrangements. A complete obituary will be published Monday in The Derrick. Myrtle L. McGinty Myrtle L. McGinty, 95, formerly of 423 Elk St., Franklin, died at 3:15 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, in the Harley Manor care facility in Springfield. A daughter of Joseph and Elsie Klein Dittman, she was born in Knox on Aug. 26, 1909. She attended public schools in Knox. Mrs. McGinty was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Patrick Church. She was married Sept. 30, 1934, to Joseph P. McGinty, who preceded her in death on May 23, 1980. Surviving are two daughters, Judith Wagner and her husband, Michael, of Eldersburg, Md., and Maureen Phelan of Newtown Square. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Mrs. McGinty was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Joseph P. McGinty Jr.; a son-in-law, Dr. Thomas Phelan; and 10 brothers and sisters. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in the Huff Chapel, 312 West Park St., Franklin. A vigil service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. Patrick Church with the Rev. Robert Manning of St. Patrick as the celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery. David Clyde Newell David Clyde Newell, 98, of Ocala, Fla., died at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, at the Oakwood Nursing Center in Ocala. Mr. Newell moved to Ocala in July 2001. Born Oct. 22, 1906, in Beulah, W.Va., he was a son of John James Wesley Newell and Jennie Glover Mahood Newell Hotaling. He graduated from the Salvation Army Training College in 1930. After serving for six years as a Salvation Army officer, Mr. Newell returned to the Oil City area where he worked for Oilwell Supply. He retired from Penelec in 1971. Mr. Newell joined the Oil City Kiwanis Club in 1971 and became a life member on Dec. 8, 1977. He was a Kiwanis district lieutenant governor from 1974-1976 and again in 1991. Mr. Newell had been a 32nd Degree Mason since 1972 and served as chaplain and choir director. He was also involved with the AARP and RSVP, Meals on Wheels and Mostly Brass. He served 14 years with the Area Agency on Aging as president and chairman of the council. He was also involved with Family Service and Children's Aid Society, serving five years as a financial advisor. Active in musical organizations, Mr. Newell was director of the Polk State School Band for 10 years and the Reno Community Band for five years. The Salvation Army Band was under his leadership for approximately 50 years, and he also served as Sunday School teacher during that time. He was the recipient of the Gold Deed Award on April 22, 1975. His hobbies included hunting, camping and traveling. On May 15, 1929, he was married to Freeda Belle Dolby in the Oil City Salvation Army citadel. She preceded him in death. Survivors include three daughters, Betty Lyons, Mary Lou Marshall and Viola Newell, all of Ocala; a son, David Newell, of Strongville, Ohio; three brothers, Chester Newell of Oil City, Clayton Newell of Green Pond, N.J., and Harry Newell of Nanuet, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Linda Lyons Brown, Raymond Marshall Jr., Leanna Rae Marshall Conant, Ingrid Newell Perruchon and Amy Newell Hold, and 10 great-grandchildren, Jami Marshall, Kassandra Marshall, Jennifer Conant, David Robert Perruchon, Christopher Perruchon, Leah Perruchon, Max Martin, Tara Martin, James Holt and Amanda Holt. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Newell was preceded in death by two grandsons, Michael Marshall and Ronald Robert Lyons; and siblings Jennie Newell Walls, William Newell, John Newell, Orpha Newell Orr, Alonzo Newell, Elmer Newell and Mildred Newell Green. Nancy J. Stanley Shontz Nancy J. Stanley Shontz, 65, of 1734 State Route 227, Oil City, died at 3:17 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, at her home, surrounded by her children, after a heroic battle with cancer. Born Dec. 15, 1938, in Oil City, she was a daughter of Andrew and Maxine Miller Stanley. Both preceded her in death. Mrs. Shontz was employed as a car hop at Nelson's Drive-In, First Seneca Bank, Quaker State, Weaver Buick, Dollar General and Baker Auto Parts. She attended the First Church of God in Oil City. She was known as an excellent mother and friend to all her children and grandchildren. Surviving are four daughters, Tambra Eismont and her husband, Michael, Dara Shontz and Sally Shontz , all of Oil City, and Marlene Aylesworth and her husband, Bob, of Franklin; a son, Andrew Shontz of Decatur, Ga.; seven grandchildren, Angela Eismont, Tina Eismont, Matt Myers and his wife, Amanda, Michelle Krosnicki, Danielle Smith and Mark Smith all of Oil City, and Sarah Aylesworth of Franklin; a great-grandson, Jordan Eismont of Oil City; several nieces and nephews, and special friends, Priscilla Eck and Helen Sutley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Irene and John "Sharkey" Rehberg. George Sullivan George Sullivan, 73, of Industry, Beaver County, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004. Among his survivors are a son, Malcolm Sullivan and his wife, Mindy, and their sons, Zachary and Aaron, of Oil City.
