Landi, North Eighth Avenue, Clarion Dolly Marks, Youngstown, Ohio, formerly of Callensburg Glenn "Snuff" Vernon Ritchey, 769 Belmar Road, Franklin Ruth Ann McWilliam Rose, Idaho, formerly of Polk Gary L. Shumaker, 1439 Windmill Road, Fairmount City Bernard J. Hartle, getting it right William H. Ashbaugh William H. Ashbaugh, 66, of Dayton, Ohio, formerly of Knox, died Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004, following a lengthy illness. Born Feb. 8, 1938, in St. Petersburg, he was the son of Cletus and Esther Plunkard Ashbaugh. He attended Pennsylvania State University where he earned a bachelor's degree in aeronautical engineering in 1960. He earned a master's degree in aerospace engineering in 1978 from the University of Dayton. Mr. Ashbaugh had a distinguished 44-year civil service career as an aerospace engineer with the U.S. Air Force at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. He began his career in 1960 as a young engineer, specializing in aircraft flight stability and controls. He quickly developed and applied his knowledge to projects that involved most aircraft in the U.S. Air Force ranging from the F-105 Thunderbolt in 1962 to the current generation of F-16 Fighting Falcons. He was also a specialist in the development of sophisticated Air Force air-launched missiles, both nuclear armed and conventional warhead configured. Mr. Ashbaugh worked on more than 10 such missile systems. Mr. Ashbaugh's engineering expertise and dedication have been instrumental in the security of the country during portions of the Cold War era and in the exhibition of the power of the Air Force in conflicts spanning the Vietnam era through Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. He recently worked with organizations such as the Special Operations Forces to investigate conceptual and often novel solutions that would meet the future needs of shadow warriors. Mr. Ashbaugh's attitude, work ethic and technical knowledge will be missed by his colleagues and the Air Force, which he deeply loved. He was a member of the Penn State Club, serving as treasurer for more than 30 years. He was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church in Dayton and attended Salem United Church of Christ in Lamartine. Mr. Ashbaugh was a multi-gallon blood donor, having donated more than 50 gallons of blood. He was an avid deer hunter and fisherman, and he also enjoyed gardening, especially growing lilies. He is survived by his mother, Esther Ashbaugh of Knox; his sister, Velma Baker and her husband, George, of Lamartine; a brother, Richard Ashbaugh and his wife, Patricia, of Cranberry; four nieces, Susan Botts of Frederick, Md., Karen Baker of Lamartine, Cheryl Anwar of Pittsburgh and Eileen Ashbaugh of Clintonville; a nephew, Anthony Baker of Erie; two great-nieces and one great-nephew. Mr. Ashbaugh was preceded in death by his father in 1993. Friends will be received from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Tobias Funeral Home, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Road Ave., Dayton, Ohio. Calling hours will also be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the William N. Rupert Mortuary in Knox. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the William N. Marie E. Droddy Marie E. Droddy, 79, of Lucinda, died Friday, Oct. 15, 2004, at her home after an extended illness. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 Sunday at the Borland Funeral Home Inc. in Leeper. A complete obituary will be published Monday in The Derrick. Florence M. Emerson Florence M. Emerson, 81, formerly of Titusville RD 3, died at 7:45 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004, at Concordia at the Orchard Nursing Home in Butler. Born Feb. 16, 1923, in Rocky Grove, she was the daughter of the late Marvin and Mary Whitten. She was a graduate of Rocky Grove High School. Mrs. Emerson attended the Titusville Church of the Nazarene. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, crossword puzzles and reading. She was married May 24, 1941, at the Church of God parsonage, Rocky Grove, to Donald R. Emerson, who preceded her in death Oct. 4, 2000. Mrs. Emerson was the last of her immediate family. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. In additions to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Wesley, Jack, Lawrence and Louis Whitten; and a sister, Alice Osborne. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home, 303 N. Washington St., Titusville. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. William Hopkins, pastor of the Oil City Church of the Nazarene, officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Titusville. Alma Marjorie Finefrock Alma Marjorie Finefrock, 82, formerly of Shippenville, died Friday, Oct. 15, 2004, at the Clarview Nursing Home, Sligo. Born Oct. 19, 1921, she was the daughter of William E. and Hilda Hackbarth Craig. Mrs. Finefrock was active in her church, serving as pianist at the Shamburg and Manor United Methodist churches. She was also an involved member of the Murphy Grange. She was a homemaker who enjoyed baking, canning and cooking meals for her family. Mrs. Finefrock was married April 24, 1943, to Jay W. Finefrock, who survives. Also surviving is a daughter, Nancy Campbell and her husband, Butch, of Clarion; five grandchildren, Bradley Knight and his wife, Julie, of Knox, Scott Knight and his fiancee, Cindy Williams, and Patrick Knight and his wife, Beverley, of Orlando, Fla., Kyle Campbell of Monroeville and Kari Campbell of Clarion; a great-granddaughter, Anna Knight of Orlando; and two sisters, Kathryn Ashbaugh and Joanne Wolfgong. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sheila Finefrock; six brothers, Ray, Charles, Dean, Jay, William and Earl Craig; and two sisters, Elaine Ketner and Vivian Craig. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Burns Funeral Home, Clarion, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Manor United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Manor United Methodist Church or the Clarion-Forest VNA. Thomas D. Landi Thomas D. Landi of North Eighth Avenue, Clarion, died Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004, at his residence. Born in Snowden Township, Allegheny County, he was the son of the late Frank and Amelia Landi. He was a World War II veteran serving in the Army Air Corps in the European Theatre of Operations. Following the war, he was a member of the Pennsylvania State Police, stationed in Troop C. Along with his ex-wife, the former Mary Aquilina, he was in the beer distributing business in Clarion. Mr. Landi was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Clarion, the American Legion, VFW, Knights of St. George and Pinecrest Country Club. He was an avid golfer and reader. Mr. Landi is survived by his ex-wife and good friend, Mary A. Landi of Clarion. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. today at the Goble Funeral Home in Clarion. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at the funeral home with Msgr. Joseph J. Riccardo officiating. Interment will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Dolly Marks Dolly Marks, 97, of Youngstown, Ohio, formerly of Callensburg, died Thursday evening, Oct. 14, 2004, at Camelot Arms Nursing Home in Youngstown, of natural causes. Born Dec. 3, 1906, in Perry Township, Clarion County, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Myrtle Floyd Callender. She was employed in general kitchen work at the Modern Diner in Clarion and then later at the Holiday Inn in Clarion from where she retired. Mrs. Marks was of the Protestant faith. She was married to James Clair Marks who passed away Jan. 11, 1983. Mrs. Marks is survived by a son, James Daniel Marks of Youngstown; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, one daughter, one sister and two brothers. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the H. Glenn Vernon "Snuff" Ritchey Glenn Vernon "Snuff" Ritchey, 73, of 769 Belmar Road, Franklin, died at 1:15 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004, at his residence. Born Oct. 14, 1931, in Franklin, he was the son of Domer and Frances Beers Ritchey. He was employed at the former Printz Co. as a stock boy when he was a teenager. He then worked at General Manifold and Printing Co. and CPT. He retired from Polk Center in 1987 after 30 years of service as a supervisor and child care aide. Mr. Ritchey attended Franklin Wesleyan Methodist Church. He enjoyed hunting and traveling. He took great pride in his home and liked mowing grass and sharing time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was married Nov. 25, 1950, to the former Nancy L. Feltenberger, and she survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Dennis W. Ritchey, Cheryl L. Walter and Susan E. Semrau and her friend, Mike Pyle, all of Franklin; and eight grandchildren, Delly Wheeler of Franklin, Mark Wheeler and his wife, Jen, of Stoneboro, Cindy Wheeler and her friend, George Daniels, of Denver, N.C., Shellie Bell and her husband, Mike, of Polk, Brett Lovett of Clintonville, Chastity Weaver and her husband, Ryan, of Franklin, Robert L. Latchaw and his wife, Cindi, of Franklin, and Travis A. Semrau and his friend, Cristi Hoover, of Franklin. Also surviving are 13 great-grandchildren, Samantha, Cinnamon, Savanna and Aaron Wheeler of Oil City, Sara, Ashley and Caity Wheeler of Stoneboro, Haddan Daniels of Denver, Michelle and Melanie Bell of Polk and Owen Weaver and Tyana and Devon Latchaw of Franklin; three brothers, Lloyd D. Ritchey and his wife, Shirley, of Franklin, Robert L. Ritchey and his wife, Connie, of Polk, and James E. Ritchey and his friend, Betty, of Titusville; one sister, Carol Ann Reitz and her husband, Lester, of Dempseytown; and a number of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Ruth Ann McWilliams Rose Ruth Ann McWilliams Rose, 67, of Filer, Idaho, formerly of Polk, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, while on vacation in California following a two-month illness. Born Nov. 8, 1936, in Polk, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Madeleine Amon McWilliams. Mrs. Rose attended schools in Polk and Franklin and graduated from Girard High School in Ohio. She is survived by a daughter, Christine Rose Kotlisky and her husband, James, of Santee, Calif.; a son, Kenneth Rose, also of Santee; and a brother, Frank Dean McWilliams of Filer, Idaho, with whom she made her home. She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Ruth Ann Rose; and a brother, Gary E. McWilliams. Gary L. Shumaker Gary L. Shumaker, 60, of 1439 Windmill Road, Fairmount City, died at 11:20 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004, in DuBois Regional Medical Center. Born Sept. 7, 1944, in Distant, he was the son of Smith Beatty and Martha Henry Shumaker. Mr. Shumaker was a machinist all his life. He was a member of Oakland Church of God in Distant. He was married Sept. 7, 1963, to the former Janet V. Miller, and she survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Gary Shumaker and his wife, Beth, of Clarion, Mark Shumaker and his wife, Barb, of Summerville and Dennis Shumaker and his wife, Trina, of New Bethlehem; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; a sister, Delores Winegardner and her husband, Randy, of Lima, Ohio; two brothers, Andrew Shumaker and his wife, Lydia, of New Bethlehem, and Clyde Shumaker and his wife, Karen, of Montrose; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Shumaker was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jimmy Shumaker; and a sister, Karen Shumaker. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 today at the Charles D. Alcorn Funeral Home, Hawthorn. Viewing will also be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Oakland Church of God where funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. Hartle, 89, formerly of Strobleton, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, in Beverly Healthcare-Shippenville. Among his survivors are three sisters, Ruth Huefner of Shippenville, Grace Distler of Clarion and Marie Cyphert and her husband, Don, of Tylersburg; a brother, Maurice Hartle of Lucinda; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Hartle of Lucinda.
