Rhoades, Emlenton Donald Hoover Shoemaker, Fort Myers, Fla., formerly of New Bethlehem Geraldine Elizabeth Wimer, Seneca, formerly of Oil City Thomas Michael McGreevey, getting it right James E. Cochran James E. Cochran, 81, of Belmar Road, Franklin, died unexpectedly Thursday morning, Sept. 30, 2004, at his home. Born Dec. 4, 1922, he was the son of James E. and Marguerite Thompson Cochran of Bradford. He moved to Franklin at a young age and graduated from Franklin High School. He received a degree from the Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania in 1943. Mr. Cochran then entered the U.S. Navy as a first lieutenant, serving as a gunnery officer, navigator and executive officer on destroyers in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters of operation through 1946. After his discharge from active duty, Mr. Cochran began a long career with Jones and Laughlin Steel Corp., first as a staff engineer. He moved on to supervise ore carrier transportation on the Great Lakes and then to planning and operations analysis. In 1958, Mr. Cochran was transferred to the specialty tube division and was promoted to manager in 1960. Under his management through 1979, that division expanded to include plants in Oil City, Titusville, New Kensington, Niles, Ohio, and Gainesville, Texas. He also traveled internationally while involved with technical assistance contracts for the design and construction of pipe mills in England, France, Germany and Italy. In 1979, under the new ownership of Van Huffel Tube Corp., he was made executive vice president and general manager of the specialty tube division until his retirement in 1984. He served as a consultant to many manufacturers of steel pipe and tube during his retirement years. Mr. Cochran was a member of the Association of Iron and Steel Engineers and other professional organizations. He was a life member of the Pittsburgh Syria Temple of the Shriners and a 50-year member of the Myrtle Lodge of the Free and Accepted Masons. He enjoyed his work and gardening. He was an avid learner and student of ancient history and remained involved in the local oil fields. Mr. Cochran was married Jan. 26, 1957, to the former Sally Osborn, who survives. He is also survived by a son, James Cochran and his wife, Teresa; and two grandchildren, Amber and Jake Cochran, all of Franklin. Mr. Cochran was preceded in death by a sister, Polly Cochran Allen. A private family funeral service will be held at a later time at St. John's Episcopal Church in Franklin. "Becky" Paskie Dieterle Rebecca J. "Becky" Paskie Dieterle, 46, of Carrick, died Friday Oct. 1, 2004, at UPMC Montefiore Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born July 23, 1958, in Franklin, she was the daughter of Daniel W. Paskie Sr. of Franklin and the late Mary T. Prince Paskie. She was a graduate of Venango Christian High School in Oil City. She received a medical assistance degree from Gannon University in Erie. Mrs. Dieterle was a volunteer for Family House and was active with the Carrick Business Association, both in Pittsburgh. She was a homemaker and loved baking, especially for her family and friends. She was married May 26, 1979, at St. Patrick Church in Franklin to Kevin R. Dieterle, who survives. In addition to her husband and father, Mrs. Dieterle is survived by two sisters, Vicky Paskie and her partner, Connie Kobitter, of Lisle, Ill., and Jennie Street and her husband, Larry, of Portland, Ore.; two brothers, Daniel W. Paskie Jr. and his wife, Tina, of Hamburg, N.Y., and Vincent J. Paskie and his wife, Leigh, of Franklin; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Wilbert J. and Elvira Lobalzo Dieterle Sr.; nieces and nephews, Brian and Dana Dieterle and Christopher, Eric, Brianna, Jessica and Alyssa Paskie; and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ann and Wilbert J. Jeffrey Douglas Raub Jeffrey Douglas Raub, 54, of 31 Back River Landing, Boothbay, Maine, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004, at Old Town, Maine. Born Feb. 19, 1950, in Grove City, he was the son of Miriam Smith and Dr. Paul Lester Raub. Dr. Raub graduated from Greenville High School in 1968 and from Princeton University in 1972 with a degree in biology. While at Princeton, he was a four-year member of the wrestling team and was co-captain during his senior year when the team won its fourth straight Ivy League championship. Dr. Raub then attended Hahnemann Medical College and graduated with honors in 1976. He did a residency in internal medicine at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, where he received the Stanley B. Conklin research paper award in 1977. Soon after receiving board certification in internal medicine, his interest turned to the challenges of emergency medicine and he was certified in that specialty in 1990 and re-certified in 1999. He went on to become an instructor in advanced cardiac life support, pediatric advanced life support, advanced trauma life support and emergency medical service radio command. He also was an examiner for the Pennsylvania College of Emergency Physicians oral exam. Dr. Raub practiced medicine in Sayre before moving to Franklin in 1982 and joining the staff of the emergency department at Northwest Medical Center from 1982-1995. He served as director of the emergency department from 1989-1992. In 1995, he joined the emergency department of Hamot Medical Center in Erie and was an instructor in the family practice residency program. He was director of the emergency department of St. Joseph Hospital, Bangor, Maine, from 2001-03. He was active throughout his career in various hospital medical staff committees and had served as co-chair of the Venango County EMS Council. At the time of his death, he was practicing emergency medicine at St. Andrews Hospital in Boothbay, Maine. Dr. Raub was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Franklin and had served on the church vestry. He was an avid hunter and was partial to archery. He enjoyed scuba diving, hiking in the woods and writing poetry. He was a state and nationally ranked marathon canoe racer in his early years. In addition to his parents of Oriental, N.C., Dr. Raub is survived by two children, Lindsey Christine and Stephanie Lynn Raub, both of Eugene, Ore.; and three brothers, Daniel Raub of Aurora, Ohio, Brian Raub of Moneta, Va., and Paul Raub III of Montoursville. Richard G. Rhoades Richard G. Rhoades, 87, of Emlenton, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004, in Beverly Healthcare, Shippenville. Born June 4, 1917, in Grove City, he was the son of the late Guy and Alzina Hess Rhoades. Mr. Rhoades graduated from Salem Vocational High School in 1935. He worked at Howe's Coffee Co. in Grove City where he met his wife. They purchased the family farm, Dick-Mar, in 1943 and continued the operation until the present time. Mr. Rhoades was an active member of Salem Lutheran Church in Lamartine, where he had served as Sunday School teacher, superintendent and the church counsel. He was also an active member in Country-Belle Co-op, Atlantic Breeders, Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, Farm Service Agency, Dairy Herd Improvement Association, Agway Inc., Soil Conservation Service and the U.S. Forest Service. Mr. Rhoades was a 4-H leader in Venango County and a member of the Richland Grange. He served for 40 years on the Allegheny-Clarion Valley school board. He was married April 29, 1938, to the former Martha Gibson, who preceded him in death May 3, 2004. Among his survivors are two daughters, Ann Cheers and her husband, Richard, and Elaine Anderson and her husband, David, all of Emlenton; one son, David Rhoades and his wife, Becky, of Emlenton; five granddaughters, Aimee McCullen, Christine Terwilliger, Susyn Klingler, Jessica Conner and Jaimee Anderson; two grandsons, Jeff Rhoades and Greg Cheers; six great-grandchildren, Faith and Korben Cheers, Emilee and Paige Klingler, Madison Terwilliger and Jacob Rhoades; two sisters-in-law, Anna Mae Rhoades of St. Petersburg and Thelma Rhoades of Knox; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Nancy Martha Rhoades in 1952; and one sister, Mary Louise Weaver. Donald Hoover Shoemaker Donald Hoover Shoemaker, 75, of Fort Myers, Fla., formerly of New Bethlehem, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004, at his residence. Born Dec. 7, 1928, in Truittsburg, he was the son of the late Harriett Ida Swyers and Henry Beatty Shoemaker. Mr. Shoemaker was self-employed in the timber business. He is survived by two sons, Greg Shoemaker and his wife, Peg, of Peoria, Ariz., and Troy Shoemaker and his wife, Ann, of Orlando, Fla.; two grandchildren, Brent and Megan Schoemaker of Peoria; a brother, Wayne; and a sister, Wilda. Wimer, 78, of Seneca, formerly of Oil City, died at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1, 2004, at her residence. Born Nov. 16, 1925, in Sugarcreek Township, she was the daughter of Oliver and Olive Cauvel Masterson. She was active in the Oil City YWCA and was a member of Seneca United Methodist Church. Mrs. Wimer enjoyed sewing and baking and provided many baked goods for area bake sales. She was married Aug. 26, 1942, to Purvis "Pete" Wimer, who died Feb. 28, 1998. Mrs. Wimer is survived by three daughters, Darlene Hunt and her husband, John, of Paquason, Va., Margaret Allaman and her husband, Paul, of Seneca, and Susan Thompson of St. Louis; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a brother, Gene Masterson of Florida; two sisters, Greta Foster and Shirley Zakutney, both of Franklin; and a number of nieces and nephews.
