McLaughlin, 8 Petroleum St., Oil City Anna Ellen Battin Montgomery, Bradenton, Fla., formerly of Seneca Lucile Rosen, Clearwater, Fla., Venango County native Carol Ann Wert, Knox RD 2 Loreda M. McGuire Loreda M. McGuire, 85, of Allison Road, Clarion, Limestone Township, died at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2004, at her home following a brief illness. Born March 30, 1919, in Summerville, she was the daughter of John T. and Mary Emily Bird Thomas. Mrs. McGuire was a member of the Limestone Baptist Church She was a homemaker and enjoyed baking cookies and bread and visiting with her children and grandchildren. Mrs. McGuire was married July 3, 1935, to Harry W. "Mickey" McGuire, who died July 8, 1991. Surviving are five daughters, Mary Henry of New Bethlehem, Pat Eaker of Sligo, Deanna Sphakoff and husband, Ed, of Clarion and Jean Sphakoff and husband, Mal, all of Clarion, and M. Kay Dreihaup and husband, Gary, of Tionesta; four sons and their wives, Harry O. and Carol McGuire of Clarion RD 2, Fred M. and Lynn McGuire of Sigel, J. Dennis and Marilyn McGuire and D. Lee and Sherri McGuire, all of Clarion; 38 grandchildren; 63 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She also is survived by two sisters, Mary Louise Wolfe of Brookville and Gen Hildebrand of Summerville. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. McGuire was preceded in death by two sons, an infant Timothy and Calvin McGuire; one great-grandchild, Brendon Blair; three sons-in-law, Reeves Henry, Robert Allen and Charles "Joe" Eaker; four brothers; and six sisters. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home, Clarion, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday in Zion Baptist Church, Reidsburg. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the church with the Rev. Mark D. Cummins officiating. Interment will follow in Cedarview Memorial Park near Strattanville. Memorials may be made to the Limestone Fire Department; the Clarion-Forest VNA Hospice; or to the Clarion Hospital. Allen W. McLaughlin Allen W. McLaughlin, 57, of 8 Petroleum St., Oil City, died at 2:05 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004, in UPMC Northwest, Seneca. Born Aug. 28, 1947, in Oil City, he was the son of Jarmila Plechacova McLaughlin Maiorana and the late Philip A. McLaughlin. His family moved in 1950 to Pittsburgh where he graduated in 1965 from Peabody High School. He then attended Clarion University where in 1972 he received his bachelor of arts in sociology/anthropology, in 1979 he receive his bachelor of arts and sciences in accounting and in 1984 he received his master's in business administration, summa cum laude. From 1981 to 1986, Mr. McLaughlin went from temporary into full time instructor in accounting at Clarion University. Mr. McLaughlin also worked as manager/projectionist at the Cranberry Mall Cinemas. He also was the startup manager for various cinemas located in Pennsylvania and Ohio. He retired due to an eye sight disability after working 10 years as an auditor for the Pennsylvania State Department of Banking. Mr. McLaughlin then became very active for the causes of the handicapped in Venango County where he was well respected and liked. Surviving are his mother and stepfather, Jarmila and John Maiorana of Pittsburgh; and a stepson, John Knakal of St. Louis, Mo. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, in the Faith Lutheran Church in Venus, with funeral services scheduled at 11 a.m. with the Rev. John Wood, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Shannondale Cemetery. Anna Ellen Battin Montgomery Anna Ellen Battin Montgomery, 65, of Bradenton, Fla., formerly of Seneca, died at 7:20 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18, 2004, in Bradenton. Born May 24, 1939, in Pitch Pine in the Shippenville area, she was the daughter of the late John W. and Viola Burchett Sharpe. She was married June 5, 1960, to Jack E. Battin Sr., who died Oct. 17, 1971. She lived and worked in Venango County before moving in 1987 to Bradenton. She loved to travel the country seeing new and fascinating sights and had many friends in the area with whom she would gather to talk, dance and share. Surviving are four children, Jack E. Battin Jr., Brian K. Battin, Edith K. Battin and Faith A. Taylor; six grandchildren, Robert C. and Melanie A. Taylor, Joshua J. and Amanda K. Battin, Keith A. Battin and Danielle N. Curran; and two great-grandchildren, Meralus E. Ponce and Alexandria M. Moore. Also surviving are a brother, Hubert Sharpe; and three sisters, Dorothy Becker, V. Fern Carlson and Joan Sharpe. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, John E. Sharpe, Walter K. Sharpe and Charles F. Sharpe; and a sister, Nora Sharpe. A celebration of her life will be held at a date to be announced. Cremation was in charge of the Shannon Funeral Home of Bradenton, Fla. Lucile Rosen Lucile Rosen, 90, of Clearwater, Fla., formerly of Largo, Fla., died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004, in Mease Hospital Countryside, Safety Harbor, Fla. Born Dec. 29, 1913, in Venango County, she was the daughter of Rulif James and Katherine Elizabeth Pettit Beach. Mrs. Rosen moved to Largo in 1957 from Meadville. She and her husband owned the Rosen Studio in Largo. Mrs. Rosen was a member of the Common Cause of Clearwater. She was a Protestant. Mrs. Rosen was married for 61 years to Leonard Rosen, who preceded her in death. Surviving are a son, Mark Rosen of Clearwater; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She also is survived by two sisters, Mary Miller of Cleveland, Ohio, and Martha Evans of Beaver. Mrs. Rosen was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Arrangements are in charge of the Moss-Feaster Funeral Homes, Serenity Gardens Chapel, Largo, Fla. Carol Ann Wert Carol Ann Wert, 43, of Knox RD 2, died Wednesday morning, Oct. 27, 2004, in UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, following an illness. Born Jan. 4, 1961, in Butler, she was the daughter of Charles Wert of Knox and the late Evelyn Russell Wert, who preceded her in death Nov. 8, 1997. In addition to her father, survivors include three brother, Charles H. Wert of Knox, Donald Wert and his girlfriend, Judith Ochs, of Shippenville and William Wert of Knox; two sisters, Debra Goheen and husband, Kevin, of Distant and Lori Wert and her boyfriend, Keith Matthew, of Distant. Ms. Wert was preceded in death by her mother and two brothers, Robert Dale Wert and Kenneth Allen Wert. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the William N. Rupert Mortuary, Inc. in Knox. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home with the Rev. Randy Evans officiating. Interment will follow in the Parker Presbyterian Cemetery.
