Monrean, Knox Mary Lou Russell, Route 322, Shippenville Randall H. Sliker, Tionesta RD 1 Hazel L. White, 1552 Keely Road, Franklin Margaret Evalyn Whitling, Arlington, Va., formerly of the Emlenton area Roxana S. Cherico, 82, of Dayton, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2007, at the Kittanning Care Center in Kittanning. Born June 19, 1925, in Glendive, Mont., she was the daughter of the late Leslie P. and Florence E. Pulford Norman. Mrs. Cherico worked as a clerk for seven years at Sears. She worked on the McCord Air Force Base in Washington State and sang on the radio since she was 10 years old. She also sang to entertain troops during World War II, sang opera with the San Diego Opera for four years and sang in a combo band in the 1940's. She was married on Oct. 17, 1947, to William Cherico, who survives. Mrs. Cherico was a member of the St. Charles Catholic Church in New Bethlehem and enjoyed painting. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, William Lee Cherico of San Diego, Calif., and James LeRoy Cherico and his wife, Eiko, of Japan; a daughter, Roxana Parker and her husband, Todd, of Brookville; two granddaughters, Merisa and Lea; and two brothers, Willard Norman of Eugene, Ore, Kenneth Norman of Houston, Texas. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Leslie, Raymond, Steve and Bob Norman. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Rupert Funeral Home in New Bethlehem. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 3:45 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Charles Catholic Church in New Bethlehem, with the Rev. William Laska serving as celebrant. Interment will follow at the St. Charles Catholic Cemetery in New Bethlehem. Penny L. Kerr, 60, formerly of Meadville, died Friday, Nov. 23, 2007, at Golden Living Center in Cambridge Springs. Born April 16, 1947, in Fairfax, Va., she was a daughter of Charles and Margaret Sims Hewitt. Mrs. Kerr graduated from Belle Vernon High School and attended California State College, where she studied art. She served in the U.S. Army in Okinawa, Japan, during the Vietnam War era. She worked at Polk Center as an aide and switch board operator. She was a member of the Meadville Auxiliary Police and a life member of the Franklin American Legion. Mrs. Kerr loved spending time with her grandchildren and enjoyed playing cards with her friends, playing bingo and collecting Santa Claus figures. She was married April 18, 1978, to David G. Kerr, who survives. Survivors also include a daughter, Colleen L. Small of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a son and his wife, Darren W. and Hope Kerr of Oil City; and three grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Marisa and Jerred Kerr, and another due to arrive in April. Also surviving are two sisters, Zeta Morgan and her husband, Bill, of Belle Vernon, and Levina McClain of California; two brothers, John Hewitt and his wife, Trina, of Washington, and Chuck Hewitt of Belle Vernon; and her dog, J.R. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Tom. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday in the Hatheway-Tedesco Funeral Home, 614 Baldwin St., Meadville. Funeral services with full military honors by the Meadville VFW Post 2006 will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in the funeral home, with the Rev. Richard Roberts of the Oakland United Methodist Church officiating. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Crawford County Hospice. Josephine A. Lenhart McDonald Josephine "Josie" A. Lenhart McDonald, 90, formerly of Laurel Avenue, Oil City, died at 10:45 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 22, 2007, at Oil City Presbyterian Home, where she had been a resident for three years. Born June 13, 1917, in Lucinda, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Frances Ace Lenhart. Mrs. McDonald attended the Lucinda School. She worked for many years cleaning homes in Oil City, worked as a dishwasher for Cunningham's Restaurant on Seneca Street from 1970 until the business closed and was a caregiver to the elderly for about 10 years. Mrs. McDonald enjoyed being out with her family on get-togethers and liked camping with her family and taking family trips. She was married Feb. 2, 1937, to Alfred McDonald, who preceded her in death June 20, 1970. Surviving are five sons, Alfred McDonald and wife, Beckie, John McDonald and friend, Helen, Joseph "Bob" McDonald and wife, Sue, all of Oil City, Arnold McDonald and wife, Kathy, of Seneca, and George McDonald and wife, Vicky, of Oil City; and six daughters, Mary Lou Sharpe of Oil City, Dorothy Fross and husband, George, of Polk, Carolyn Richie and husband, Don, of Reno, Helen M. Chapel and husband, James Sr., of Tionesta, Joann L. Chapel and husband, James C. Jr., of Orange, Calif., and Betty J. Beddard and husband, Henry, of Washington, N.C. Survivors also include a daughter-in-law, Judy McDonald, of Nashville, Tenn.; 26 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son Edward McDonald in 1983; a brother John Lenhart; a sister Mary Lou Grove; two sons-in-law, Walter K. Sharpe and William J. Proper; a granddaughter Pamela Jo; and two great-grandsons, Michael Luctush and Chuck Trauterman. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Morrison Funeral Home. Funeral services will held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Monrean, 97, of Knox, died Wednesday evening, Nov. 21, 2007, at Golden Living Healthcare in Shippenville. Born Sept. 15, 1910, in Sligo, he was a son of the late John N. and Florence Myer Monrean. Mr. Monrean worked in the coal mines in earlier years and was self-employed with Monrean Music Store, where he sold and tuned pianos. He was a member of St. Mark's Memorial Chapel at Kossuth. He was a lifelong member of the Piano Tuners Guild in Pittsburgh for 50 years and was known as a jack of all trades. He married Eileen Hartman in 1937. She preceded him in death in 2001. Survivors include a son, David E. Monrean and his wife, Nancy, of Fort Myers, Fla.; a daughter, Jane Wile of Knox; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sons, Robert and Jackie Monrean; three brothers, Jack, Frank and Ralph Monrean; two sisters, Lulu McClimans and Nellie Monrean; and a son-in-law, Raymond L. Mary Lou Russell, 77, of Route 322, Shippenville, died Friday, Nov. 23, 2007, at the Hospice House in Shippenville. Born March 31, 1930, in Clarion, she was the daughter of the late Walter Doverspike and Rose Gruebele Doverspike. Mrs. Russell retired in 1992 from Clarion Area School District, where she taught for 28 years. She also taught for 12 years in the North Clarion School District. She was a member of the Grace Lutheran church in Clarion. She was also a member of the Eastern Star, Clarion Chapter #267, the Literacy Council, Pine Crest Golf Association, Clarion Women's Club and the Bridge Club and was a volunteer for the Area Agency on Aging. Surviving are a brother, John Doverspike and his wife, Vee Ann, of California; and six nieces and nephews, James Gratson and family, Sandra Longenecker and family, David Gratson and family, Lisa Doverspike, Johnny and Tracy Doverspike and family, and Karen Shultz. Preceding her in death were her parents; two sisters, Carolyn Shultz and Nancy Heath; and a nephew, Michael Gratson. Memorials may be made to the Grace Lutheran Church, 421 Madison St., Clarion, 16214. Randall H. Sliker, 87, of Tionesta RD 1, died Friday morning, Nov. 23, 2007, at his home. Born Oct. 14, 1920, in Newmansville, he was the son of Charles C. and Sarah Mealy Sliker. Mr. Sliker lived in Erie for 42 years and worked at General Electric for seven and a half years. He then worked at the A.O. Smith Company until he retired in 1983 and moved to Tionesta RD, where he and his wife owned and operated the Double R Campground. He attended Washington Chapel and Tylersburg United Methodist Church. He was married Dec. 20, 1941, to Lois I. Nelson, who survives. Survivors also include a daughter, Stacy Lee Langer and husband, Timothy, of Erie; three grandchildren; Ryan, Denise and Valerie, all of Erie; and a brother, Lowell Sliker of Tionesta. Mr. Sliker was preceded in death by seven brothers, Clyde, Alva, Leon, Archie, Orie, Clair and Ralph; and two sisters, Bessie Miller and Twila Willings. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Faller Funeral Home Inc. in Fryburg. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with the Rev. White, 97, of 1552 Keely Road, Franklin, died at 10:20 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2007, at UPMC Northwest, Seneca. Born April 10, 1910, in Louden, W.Va., she was a daughter of Arthur and Eleanore Cornell Lewis. Mrs. White was a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, weaving, sewing, looming and cooking. She is survived by a son, Daniel B. Brenneman and his wife, Jayne, of Franklin; three daughters, Mrs. Doris Sorenson and Mrs. Alice Hulsey, both of Hartsville, S.C., and Mrs. Basil "Fay" Gedz of Ashville, N.Y.; a step-daughter, Mrs. Harold (Beatrice) Rough of Cochranton; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Claris Ghering; two brothers, Cecil Lewis and Harold Lewis; and a great-great-grandchild, Laney Sorenson. Margaret Evalyn Whitling Margaret Evalyn Whitling, 88, of Arlington, Va., formerly of the Emlenton area (Airport Road), died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2007, in Arlington, Va. Born Jan. 15, 1919, in Drumright, Okla., she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Wampler Ross. She was married to Glenn King Whitling, who preceded her in death in December of 1984. Survivors include a son, David Whitling and his wife, Ming Li, of Arlington, Va.; a grandson, Daniel Whitling of Charleston, S.C.; and a great-granddaughter, Morgan Whitling of Orlando, Fla. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, David Whitling Jr. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Zion Union Cemetery in Emlenton. The William N. Rupert Mortuary Inc. of Knox is in charge of arrangements.
