Fox, 1943 Canoe Ripple Road, Sligo Mary Lou Haylett, Meadville Sarah E. Himes, 351 Causeway Drive, Franklin Clara E. Martz, 184 Olean Road, Corsica Marjorie E. McElhattan, formerly of 307 Hoffman Ave., Oil City Eleanor Louise Scott, Rimersburg Arthur Cole Benninger, 89, of Route 257, Seneca, formerly of Tionesta, died at 6:15 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007, in his residence. Born July 4, 1918, in Messhoppen, he was the son of the late William A. and Emma Wilson Benninger. He attended public schools and graduated in 1938 from Messhoppen High School in eastern Pennsylvania. Following graduation, he worked on the construction of the Panama Highway and Alcan Highway in Alaska and Canada. At age 25, he entered the Navy and served during World War II, stationed in the South Pacific. Throughout his life, he established many successful business enterprises which included Benninger Coal Co., Beninger Manufacturing Inc. of Seneca, R.E.M. Coal Co. of Brookville, Clarion Automotive, and Ti-Brook Inc. in Brookville. He also was involved in several real estate ventures in northwestern Pennsylvania which provided buildings and facilities to house the Pennsylvania State Police, the Pennsylvania Department of Health and Pennsylvania Family Planning. Mr. Benninger was an avid pilot and a volunteer with the Civil Air Patrol. He also was a former member of the Tionesta Lions Club and was a 32nd Degree Mason, holding membership in the Olive Temple Lodge of Tionesta. He was of the Methodist faith and was a member of the Seneca United Methodist Church. Mr. Benninger was a very positive, kind, loving and generous man who touched the lives of many who knew him. He is survived by three daughters, Constance McQuiston and husband, H. Robert, of Stoneboro, Pamela Neil of Brookville and Candace O'Brien and husband, Joe, of Oil City; seven grandchildren, Melissa McWilliams of Houston, Texas, and Travis McWilliams and wife, Sherry, and their children, Hunter Mason, Ashlynn Grace and Mari-Kathryn of Cypress, Texas, Christopher Neil of Brookville, Alyshia Zimmerman and husband, Jason, of Wylie, Texas, Nicolaus Neil of Clarion, Lauren McDavid and husband, Nathan, of Dickinson, Texas, and Joey O'Brien of Oil City. Also surviving are his former spouse, Ellen Benninger of Tionesta; two stepchildren, Neil Todhunter and wife, Connie, and their children, Cara and Janeil, of Oil City, and Rose Mary Schneider and husband, Jerry, and their children, Susie, Todd and Nicole, of Fertigs; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to his parents, three sisters and one brother, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Piper Benninger in 1968, and wife, Dr. Mary Todhunter Benninger, in 1991. Friends and family will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, in the Hile-Best Funeral Home, 2781 Route 257 in Seneca, Cranberry Township. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, in the Seneca United Methodist Church, 196 East State Road, Seneca. The Rev. Robert H. Wilson, church pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Washington Cemetery in Frills Corners, Clarion County. Cirincione, 81, a resident of the Golden Living Center, Oil City, died Monday afternoon, Nov. 5, 2007, in the living center. The Morrison Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. A complete obituary will be published Wednesday in The Derrick. Stephen H. Fox, 48, of 1943 Canoe Ripple Road, Sligo, died at 9:40 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, 2007, in his home following a sudden illness. Born July 13, 1959, in Butler, he was the son of Harold and Burnice Stephens Fox, who survive in West Freedom. Mr. Fox was a self-employed coal truck driver, primarily working from Piney Creek Power Plant near Clarion. He enjoyed riding horses and farming. He was a member of the Clarion County Farm Bureau. Mr. Fox was married May 17, 1980, to the former Myrna J. Weckerly, who survives, along with his parents. Also surviving are one daughter, Stephenie Fox of Sligo; one son, Jeremy Fox and friend, Amanda Brocklehurst, of Sligo; one sister and her husband, Deanna and Melvin Yori of Hawthorn; and one brother and his wife, Rodney and Pam Fox of Parker. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the Varner Funeral Home in Sligo. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home with Greg McCall, friend of the family, and the Rev. Dan Myers, pastor of the Mount Joy United Methodist Church, co-officiating. Mary Lou Haylett Mary Lou Haylett, 72, of 13160 Leslie Road, Meadville, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2007, in UPMC Presbyterian, Pittsburgh. Born Sept. 15, 1935, in Warren, she was the daughter of Leland and Gladys Daye. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Haylett was married for more than 50 years to John G. Haylett, who survives. Also surviving are four sons, Dennis L. Haylett, Terry L. Haylett and wife, Linda, Steven J. Haylett and Kevin R. Haylett, all of Meadville; seven grandchildren, Holly Haylett, Megan Haylett, Aaron Delp, Ramsey Haylett, Ryan Haylett, Travis Haylett and Jason Haylett; and eight great-grandchildren. She also is survived by one sister, Rebecca Baker and husband, Jim, of Franklin; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Haylett was preceded in death by her parents. There will be no calling hours. Services will be held at the convenience of the family with Pastor Temple Jarrell of the First Church of God in Meadville, officiating. Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery, Meadville. Sarah E. Himes Sarah E. Himes, 92, of 351 Causeway Drive, Franklin, died at 12:15 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007, in Sugar Creek Station, Franklin. Born Jan. 21, 1915, in Oil City, she was the daughter of Arthur T. and Verna Isabelle Blauser Burchfield. Mrs. Himes was a housekeeper at Oil City Hospital and worked for four years as an attendant at Polk Center. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Franklin. Mrs. Himes loved quilting and crocheting and enjoyed traveling. She was married July 20, 1931, to Charles Himes, who preceded her in death March 31, 1983. Surviving are three children, Jack L. Himes of Melbourne, Fla., Dean W. Himes of Enterprise, Ore., and Myrna Cornmesser of Franklin; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. She also is survived by a sister, Lillian N. Lindberg of Union City; a brother, William T. Burchfield of Titusville; and a daughter-in-law, Dorothy McClure of Sand Point, Idaho.. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, A.Thomas Himes. There will be no visitation. McElhattan, 81, a resident of the Oil City Presbyterian Home for the past three and one half years, formerly of 307 Hoffman Ave., Oil City, died at 12:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 5, 2007, in UPMC Northwest, Seneca, following an extended illness. Born Nov. 1, 1926, in Strattanville, Clarion County, she was the daughter of Harlan Elton and Frances Zoe Reardon Gross. She attended Clarion area schools. Mrs. McElhattan retired from Polk Center after being a RSA at Terrace for many years. She was of the Protestant faith and was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxillary No. 249 of Strattanville. Mrs. McElhattan's hobbies included crafts, drawing, crocheting and crossword puzzles. She also loved being around her family and grandchildren. She was married in Clarion in March 1946 to Carl D. McElhattan, who preceded her in death Feb. 5, 1969. Surviving are five children, Carla Cochran and husband, Gary, of Oil City, Margo McElhattan of Meadville, Raymond McElhattan of Oil City, Mary Parson and husband, Gary, of Oil City and Barbara Coast and husband, Rich, of Barkeyville; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She also is survived by three sisters, Frances Merryman of Virginia, Jaclyn Theiss of Etna and Virginia Rhoades of Strattanville; several nieces and nephews; five sisters-in-law, Lillian Gross of Summerville, Judy Gross of Mars, Lou Gross of North Carolina, and Luella McElhattan and Althea McElhattan, both of Clarion County. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Stanley McElhattan; one grandson, Michael Cochran; one great-grandson, Dakota Cochran; and three brothers, Dale Gross, Harlan Gross Jr. and Richard Gross. Eleanor Louise Scott, 86, of Rimersburg, Madison Township, died at 7 a.m. Monday, Nov. 5, 2007, in the Clarion Hospital following a brief illness. Born Aug. 10, 1921, in Toby Township, Clarion County, she was the daughter of Oliver Hudson George and Nora Hazel Flick George. She attended Reigle Elementary School and graduated in 1939 from Union High School. After graduation, she worked at her father's Texaco Station in Georgetown near Rimersburg when gasoline sold for 18 cents a gallon. Mrs. Scott was a lifelong member of the Jerusalem United Church of Christ in Rimersburg. Her life revolved around her family and church. She enjoyed sitting on her porch watching humming birds and other wildlife. She enjoyed embroidery and sending cards to others. Mrs. Scott was married in her parents' home near Rimersburg Nov. 2, 1946, to Harold Frank Scott, who preceded her in death April 29, 2004. Surviving are two daughters, Eugenia S. Scott of Indianapolis, Ind., and Carol L. Scott of Rimersburg; one son and wife, Ray and Susan Scott of Rimersburg; six grandchildren, Katy Kriebel of Abilene, Texas, Scotia McClung and husband, Johnny, of Avon, Ind., Casey Bliss and wife, Amanda, of Rimersburg, Corey Bliss and wife, Valerie, of Centerville, Ohio,Molly Scott and Neil Scott, both of Rimersburg; three great-grandchildren, Ryder Bliss of Centerville, Ohio, Evie Bliss of Rimersburg and Teilah McClung of Avon, Ind.; and two stepgrandchildren, Tyler Kohut and Shayla Kohut, both of Centerville, Ohio. She also is survived by a brother and wife, Harold G. and Lucille George of Rimersburg; two brothers-in-law, Milford Milner Jr. and James F. Shoup, both of Rimersburg; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Paul and Dottie Scott of Glen Carbon, Ill.; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Scott was preceded in death by two sisters, Mae M. Shoup, Dec. 1, 2001, and Velma B. Milner, May 23, 2007; one brother, Royd George, Jan. 31, 1996; a sister-in-law, Miriam George, April 23, 2003; a brother-in-law, Dale Scott, October 1992; and a sister-in-law, Jean Scott, in April 2007. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the Richard D. Hillis Funeral Home, Rimersburg, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday in the Jerusalem United Church of Christ, Rimersburg. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the church with the Rev. John Gareis, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in the Rimersburg Cemetery.
