Owens, Polk Getting it right - Pastor Susan L. "Sue" Bonner Dorothy M. Gricks, 86, of 105 East State Road, Seneca, died at 6:18 pm Thursday, Nov. 1, 2007, at UPMC Northwest in Seneca. Born March 22, 1921, in Van, she was a daughter of Harry F. and Lula May Alden Whitling. Mrs. Gricks did home health care. She was a member of the Victory Heights United Brethren Church. Mrs. Gricks enjoyed reading, quilting, gardening and spending time with her family. She was married July 3, 1941, to Robert F. Gricks who preceded her in death in January of 1988. Surviving are five daughters, Bonnie Beightol of Seneca, Saundra Miller and husband, James, of York, Connie Hogue of Franklin, Sue Gibson and husband, Lynn, of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Nancy Shontz of Franklin; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. Also surviving are four sisters, Mary Neal and Evelyn Heeter, both of Oil City, Alice Paup of Seneca, and Ardelle Weaver of Franklin. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Robert Dean Gricks, who died in infancy; two brothers, John Whitling and Gerald "Jake" Whitling; and a son-in-law, the Rev. Larry Shontz. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Morrison Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in the Victory Heights United Brethren Church, with the Rev. Steve Henry, assisted by Rev. Keith Mapes, officiating. Koziara, 86, of 10 Maple Avenue, Oil City, died at 12:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2, 2007, surrounded by her family. Born Oct. 5, 1921, in Oil City, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Aniela Kaminski Gill. She was married June 10, 1945, in the Assumption B.V.M. Church to John J. Koziara, who preceded her in death Dec. 11, 1972. A homemaker, Mrs. Koziara was a member of St. Joseph's Church, the Rosary Society, Prime Timers and the Golden Agers. She enjoyed spending time with her family. She is survived by five children and their spouses, Thomas and Linda Koziara of Pittsburgh, John and Mary Beth Koziara of Oil City, Lawrence and Beth Koziara of Strattanville, Janice and Robert Martin of Murrysville, and Terry and Mary Koziara of Greensburg. Survivors also include 11 grandchildren, Ashley and Sarah Koziara, Michael Koziara and his wife, Jen, Joseph Koziara and his wife, Hope, Susan Koziara, Kristin Koziara, Kurtis and Kortnee Koziara, and Gretta, Grace and Emma Martin; two great-grandchildren, Ella and Brady Koziara; two sisters, Anne Gill of Oil City and Josephine McGreevy of East Aurora, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank Gill, Joseph Gill and John Gill; and two sisters, Sophie Brown and Mary Dibble. Beverly Ann Kukla, 76, of Chula Vista, Calif., died Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 31, 2007, at Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego. She was a 20-year breast cancer survivor, but succumbed to cancer after it returned earlier this year. Born Oct. 15, 1931, in Franklin, she was the daughter of Oliver B. and Gertrude Hawkins. Mrs. Kukla was a 1949 graduate of Franklin High School. She was married Dec. 26, 1948, to Theodore "Whitey" Kukla of Oil City, who survives. Beverly and Whitey moved to San Diego County in August of 1953. After several moves back and forth from Pennsylvania to California they finally decided to make California their permanent home when Whitey joined San Diego Gas and Electric as a lineman in April 1964. In November 1964 they bought a home in Chula Vista, Calif., where Beverly resided until her death. Beverly was a homemaker and was known for her M&M cookie-baking sprees. Her husband retired from SDG&E as a general foreman in August 1991, and they enjoyed traveling to places such as Canada, Carlsbad Caverns, Nashville, Florida, San Francisco, Calico Ghost Town, Yellowstone and many other places of interest. Beverly enjoyed reading, shopping, traveling and spending time with her children. Her corneas were donated to the San Diego Eye Bank for transplant and/or research purposes. She was a firm believer in eye and organ donation so that others may benefit. In addition to her husband, survivors include her children, Steve Kukla and wife, Sherri, of Ocotillo Wells, Calif., and Ted Kukla Jr. of San Marcos, Calif.; six grandchildren; two great- granddaughters; and her dog, Honey. She was preceded in death by her mother, father and sister, Florence Stadtler. Inurnment will be in Tidioute Cemetery in Deerfield Township, Warren County. Willis L. Owens, 79, of Polk, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2007, in the Presque Isle Rehabilitation and Nursing, Erie. Born June 6, 1928, in Franklin, he was a son of Carl and Sylvia Dunlap Owens. He attended school at both Franklin and Rocky Grove and played basketball for both as and also the YMCA. Mr. Owens served with the U.S. Army in Germany after WWII, and during that time he played in USO type shows including "Guys and No Dolls." He was with the 28th Division Army Ordinance Group and at the time of his discharge was a tech sergeant. He was employed as a machinist at Joy Mining Machinery for 32 years, and was also well known as a school bus driver for the Franklin School District. He was an excellent rhythm guitar player, playing in many bands and with some of the area's best musicians. He was a member of the Franklin Moose Club, the local VFW and the IAM Local. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling but most of all he loved "his boys" and grandchildren and greatly missed his angel, Sara. He married the former Sara Loomis on April 23, 1954, and she died on May 30, 1989. Surviving are four sons, David Owens and his wife, Sally, of Polk, Randy Owens and wife, Cindy, of Rocky Grove, Michael Owens and Rodger Owens and his wife, Sue Barnes, all of Franklin; and six grandchildren, Lucas Owens of Pittsburgh, Misty Owens and friend, Jimmy Hall, of Franklin, Stephani Murdoch and her husband, Doug, of Polk, Jenifer Krenek and her husband, Greg, of North Carolina, Willie Owens of Polk and Shannon Wrhen of Rocky Grove. Survivors also include five great-grandchildren, Zachary Murdoch of Polk, Alexandra and Nicholas Krenek of North Carolina, and Sara and Jadyn Owens of Franklin; a brother, Jack Owens and his wife, Mary Lou, and their family, of Oregon. Also surviving are a brother-in-law Robert Baker and family; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Brad Loomis and his wife, Ruth, and their family, and Rich Loomis and his wife, Nancy, and their family; a very special niece, Sylvia Jackson and her family of Arizona; many cousins; his guitar playing partner, Cash Green; and a close friend, James "Raleigh" Johnson. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Albert and Helen Snyder; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Harry Kyle; sister-in-law, Ruth Baker; and great-grandson, James Michael Hall. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in the Huff Chapel, 312 W. Park St., Franklin. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with his brother, Jack Owens, conducting the service. Interment will be made in Peters Cemetery.
